[white] Endless Dreams: Book One Believe it or not, I'm finally going to release an actual demo of the game I've been working on and reworking on for the better part of forever.... Wow, so this post is ancient and got out of date and all my images and links had become lost and irrelevant so I did some spring cleaning and cleared out the old posts. Sorry to anyone that was attached to theirs. Anywho... so believe it or not this is actually back underway and I should have a new video (courtesy of Drew) showing my forth coming new demo that's actually playable this time. In the mean time, feast your eyes on the old (and now outdated video). This demo takes place immediately following the intro cut scene shown in the first video above. That cut scene is currently not included on this demo as its going through some revisions. The demo takes place in an old ruin dungeon map where our mercenary hero is seeking an unknown orb for a client. Its a short run with just a handful of maps, but I hope you all enjoy finally getting a taste of my game. [/white]

[white]All right, here it is.
Check first post for link.
I'll be releasing another demo sometime in the near future, featuring the full prologue of my story. Stay tuned for updates and videos and/or screen shots depending on what Drew is up to.[/white]

[white]Just for the purpose of comparison and explanation here's a shot of what the game looks like on Drew's capture system versus what it actually looks like on a home television. Sadly the video doesn't really do it justice. Do yourself a favor and give it a play! No offense to Drew and his efforts (as he knows all to well that it doesn't capture the gamma properly). More images coming just as soon as I finish editing the color back in. [/white]

Holy . I think I just my pants. The sheer detail of those dungeon maps is mind-blowing at minimum. The cutscenes are simply unbelievable. Just watching that video I can tell that this is the most impressive project I've ever seen with RPGM2. Congratulations, man. I can't even imagine the amount of creativity and work that went into just that one dungeon. I'll try to play it soon, but within a week and a half I'm going back to school so stuff might get in the way. We'll see how it goes. Keep up the phenominal work! -the smurf

That screen is the perfect example of what I'm talking about. The semi-transparent water objects, the invisible blocks with textures to look like hanging ivy, and the textures that make it looking like there are plants floating on the water. I know I would never think to do that, at least in RPGM2. TFR, how much memory did that dungeon take up? I can't imagine that you can have too many of those kinds of maps in your game without the system complaining about it. My maps are pretty to begin with and SS2 was running out of memory at an alarming rate, so I can only imagine what problems arise with that. That said, I will try as hard as possible to make time to play this within the next week or two, because if I wait any longer I might explode. -the smurf

TFR, how much memory did that dungeon take up? I can't imagine that you can have too many of those kinds of maps in your game without the system complaining about it. [white]That room there takes up over 9000 memory units. My game doesn't feature nearly the depth of content that any traditional RPG would, no matter what its style. I have no items, spells, armor or weapons in my game. And no shops, images, animations or effects to support them thus saving a lot of memory overall. My game is supposed to be an interactive novel. Not so much with being a long winded dialog fest more so as a visual novel with interaction. So spending massive amounts of memory on my maps seems appropriate. [/white]

Ah, I see. That's actually a really interesting idea. I can only imagine how much memory all those items and spells and effects take up on a normal game. I'd never know since I always do the start on easy then switch to hard technique and delete stuff from there.
Keep up the great work!

Hey, I'm having a problem opening the demo file. I downloaded it, and when I try to open it I get a "windows cannot open the file cause it doesn't know what program created it" error message. I don't know if any of you know how to fix this, but I'd appreciate any help. I really want to play the demo.
Help!

Well you can't necessarily just open it. You put the file onto a maxdrive or a USB stick and insert it into your PS2 (Just in case you forgot). It works fine, ive loaded it and played it.

Oh wow. Whenever I upload a game file I usually zip it, so I was in that mindset when I tried opening it. I completely didn't even notice that it was the actual maxdrive file. It's been way too long. Thanks. -the smurf

[white] I've almost completed the reworking of the dungeon and should have it finished by the weekend (its all scripting at this point as the actual design part is done). The battle system is more or less in place but the battle itself (the final fight at the end of the dungeon) still needs its choreography. I've completed two of the six total maps that will be included in the full demo, one of which being the recreation of the map from the opening scene in the first video. Since there are no battles or puzzles associated with the remaining content (though I might toss some in if I find the time and an appropriate need) I'm expecting it to come rather smoothly and quickly once I finish with the dungeon section.[/white]

Man, you've already put everything I've ever made to shame. ISN'T THAT ENOUGH?! Why must you kick me in the balls, too? Seriously, man. This is the best ing I've ever seen. On another note, I played the demo. The puzzle instructions were a little vague (took me a while to figure out what I was being told to do), but apart from that everything was awesome. I love the button pushing during the cutscenes. Keep up the godly work! -the smurf edit: Spelling

[white]Finished working on the timing for my escape events for the dungeon today. Took me 6+ hours just to do four sequences. Timing together event movement, timed button presses and vfx is a severe pain.
EDIT: And.... dungeon is done. Now on to everything else I need to finish to release the demo.[/white]

Awesome work, TFR. The environments look absolutely gorgeous. I'm gonna download this game now and see if I can dig up the old Max Drive.
