Okay. Since it would be pointless to make a new topic everytime I had new lyrics to post, I figure I'd be better off clumping them all here. For the sake of keeping things fluent, I won't repost lyrics from other topics. But I will start with some that I just wrote: Rolling Thunder Denied the promises of our past Never will we know what we are fighting for The hypocrites intervening at last Your boys will never see the horror of war Kill ‘em all Pull the trigger and drop one thousand bombs Waking up to the smell of napalm The jungle’s burning and Charlie’s hiding Our only order is to keep on fighting till we die We scorn the baby-killers who fight for nothing The excuses and the body counts stacking up The protestors beg for something, anything Because you never know just when your number’s up Off to war Pull the trigger and drop one thousand bombs Waking up to the smell of napalm The jungle’s burning and Charlie’s hiding Our only order is to keep on fighting till we die The undercurrent of a transitory attack Losing lives and land we can never get back You can’t win if you can’t cross the borderline Our one last chance pray to the great divine Pull the trigger and drop one thousand bombs Waking up to the smell of napalm The jungle’s burning and Charlie’s hiding Our only order is to keep on dying For a cause we don’t know and no, it's not a protest song about the war in Iraq. -the smurf

Jim Casy An American freedom fighter Fleeing his homeland Resisting Californian oppressors Fearing no man “You don’t know what you’re doing” he says “There ain’t no virtue” he says An American freedom fighter Fleeing his homeland Doubting the validity of religion Preaching resistance to repression An Okie from a sinful past Seeking redemption Leaving his mark at last To gain absolution “You don’t know what you’re doing” he says “There ain’t no sin” he says An Okie from a sinful past Seeking redemption Doubting the validity of religion Preaching resistance to repression There ain’t no sin, and there ain’t no virtue! There’s just stuff people do…it’s all part of the same thing What’s this call, this sperit? It’s love Doubting the validity of religion Preaching resistance to repression A freedom fighter Aces Wild Roll the dice Think you’re gonna win now? Deal the cards Let it begin I believe in chance I don’t believe in fate Do I believe in luck? Ain’t gonna sit and wait (come on) Take a seat Give the roulette a spin For a million bucks I do anything to win Got my girl at home Nothing else to say Cause I’m far from death And got taxes to pay (come on) And I know I’m in over my head But it’s the perfect night To gamble my life away Twenty bucks on the table And I’m losing fast One more game I swear it’ll be the last Pull the slots once more And I can make it right So roll the dice You might just get lucky tonight Flip the flop And ante in Got ten more chips And a greed stemming from within Got a pair of jacks Got a five card straight Show four of a kind Gotta change my fate (come on) Eyes of a snake Staring me in the face Lose another ten Gone without a trace Got my girl at home Nothing else to say Cause I’m far from death And got taxes to pay (come on) And I know I’m in over my head But it’s the perfect night To gamble my life away Twenty bucks on the table And I’m losing fast One more game I swear it’ll be the last Pull the slots once more And I can make it right So roll the dice You might just get lucky tonight -the smurf

Wow, I was waiting until I had the time to really read these, and I must say, it was worth the wait. I especially like the first and third one, but the second one is good as well. I would really like to hear the songs once you record them in some way.

Cool, I'm glad you guys like them. I'll post more as I write them. Feel free to critique as well as comment, too. I'm sure I need it. Oh, and a digital cookie goes to whoever can tell me the subjects of Rolling Thunder and Jim Casy. In the meantime... Orange Moon Load up on silver bullets I hear them coming now I hope you know how to use a gun Is that your bell that’s ringing? As the clock chimes at twelve Past midnight there’s nowhere to run As the fangs pierce into your flesh I can see your body start to change Are you okay or are you too far gone? As the clouds part the moon shines down Spreading light all over the forest floor Are you here or am I all alone? The werewolves under the orange moon Are out and killing them just like you And I stand here wondering what to do The werewolves under the orange moon Are out and eating them just like you You make me wonder what to do About you Under the orange moon I’ll kiss you one last time now Before I let you go You’ve been taken over by the dead Fall back and hope you’re waiting Over on the other side Keep thinking of those last three words we said As the fangs pierce into your flesh I can see your body start to change Are you okay or are you too far gone? As the clouds part the moon shines down Spreading light all over the forest floor Are you here or am I all alone? The werewolves under the orange moon Are out and killing them just like you And I stand here wondering what to do The werewolves under the orange moon Are out and eating them just like you You make me wonder what to do About you Under the orange moon And now it’s too late Once the silver hits the heart Fall over dead now The werewolves under the orange moon Are out and killing them just like you And I stand here wondering what to do The werewolves under the orange moon Are out and eating them just like you You make me wonder what to do About you Under the orange moon -the smurf

Well, I'll try to do some recordings of the songs but, as I've said before, I have neither a microphone nor a vocalist...and it certainly wouldn't sound pretty if I sang...but I will try to record the music whenever I have some free time, which should be fairly soon. meanwhile, in other news, I just cranked out this one today. I have a feeling that with this, the lyrics for Horizons, and some other stuff that is at the conceptual stage right now, I may be repeating myself and sounding a little redundant, but then again, isn't that what a concept album is about? Anyway, the new stuffs: …Like Clockwork A wise man once said No man can change time The current flows onward The clock continues to chime Age old science fiction Screaming from the past But fiction is merely fiction The river flows like clockwork The pressing stream of uncertain fate But man’s free will drives him onward A vision or a dream of something great A wise man once said No one can change the past A mistaken fortune Creates a ripple that fades at last A prophecy of the dreamer Premonitions on the wave But a vision is merely a vision The river flows like clockwork The pressing stream of uncertain fate But man’s free will drives him onward A vision or a dream of something great as always, feel free to critique this one and the others. I'm a little surprised that I've gotten only praise thus far...I know I'm not perfect at this... -the smurf

I've been working on another progressive concept song. I've only got a two out of the three parts with lyrics written, but I'm working on the music currently. This one's about the event in Norse mythology called Ragnarök, or the apocalypse. Here's what I've got so far.
Yggdrasil (Prologue/The Well of Urd/Ragnarök/Interlude/Líf and Lífthrasir/Epilogue)
Part I. Prologue
(synthesizer instrumental, no lyrics)
Part II. The Well of Urd
Beneath the world of Asgard Lies the sacred well of Urd Where the nurturing ones have dwelt And their prophecies are heard They give the tree Its earthly tone Beneath the roots The Gods call home And there is nothing That they don’t know As the fountain’s water Ever flows As the winter brings on its frigid breeze And that water turns to ice The wolves devour sun and moon And shatter paradise The earth will shudder violently The people will wage war And this is just the beginning Of what Loki has in store
Part III. Ragnarök
And then the horn is heard All throughout the land The final hour of death Is finally here at hand The titans clash on the battlefield Where the bloodshed begins again The gods fall victim to their ghastly fate In the war of the world’s end And the hammer slays the snake And Fenrir slays the king And as the flames engulf the world The earth begins to sink Into oblivion
Part IV. Interlude
(instrumental, no lyrics)
all comments and criticisms are welcome. i'm waiting until i actually get a synthesizer to continue writing the song, so it may be a bit before it's complete.
enjoy.

UPDATES... I've finished the last two parts of Yggdrasil. The song itself is very sloppy and uncoordinated right now, but I'm working on transitions and stuff. But anyway, here's the rest of the lyrics: Part V. Líf and Lífthrasir As the sun shines down on the new day The roaring flames begin to fade The tree stands strong against the forces And the gods rest in the tomb that they have made The creatures stare into the new horizon And two humans emerge from beneath the tree The devils and the beasts have all been vanquished And Yggdrasil, and the world, is finally free Part VI. Epilogue No lyrics I've also completed another song that sounds great, but would probably wind up being a "pop hit" or one of those songs that makes it to a NOW album or something. But that also means it would sell... By the way, I titled this before the movie came out... Anyway... Stardust I know what it feels like In a desolated dream With the universe distorted Nothing is what it seems There is only one direction Into the darkness of the night Use the starlit skies And reach the light Look to the sky and you’ll be all right Follow the stars into the night Take my hand and I’ll lead you through Cause you know I’ll be there for you The turbulence of blindness And fear of the unknown Creating ghostly apparitions A haunting of your own Just know that I am right beside you I’ll help you make it through The stars are shining bright with My love for you Look to the sky and you’ll be all right Follow the stars into the night Take my hand and I’ll lead you through Cause you know I’ll be there for you As the stardust falls As the stars burn out Look to the sky and you’ll be all right Follow the stars into the night Take my hand and I’ll lead you through Cause you know I’ll be there for you When the stars fall With this, my make-believe debut concept album is virtually complete. I've been trying to upload some of the music I record, but comcast seems to spaz out every time I try. It's weird, since it let me upload the Horizons Overture way back. Any tips? Here's the track listing...(man, am I getting way too into this...) =+=HORIZONS=+= 1. Jim Casy 2. Horizons i. Overture ii. Journey of Faith iii. The Prophecy iv. Into the Horizon 3. Stardust 4. ...Like Clockwork 5. Orange Moon 6. Rolling Thunder 7. Aces Wild 8. Sunset Boulevard (Instrumental) 9. Life as a Vagrant 10. Digits (Instrumental) 11. Yggdrasil i. Prologue ii. The Well of Urd iii. Ragnarok iv. Interlude v. Lif and Lifthrasir vi. Epilogue ...God, I either need a band or a real life. -the smurf

Well, I had a little motivation after talking about hurricanes in Physics class the other day, so I decided to put the pen to paper again. For the italicized parts, imagine some cool, deep, sythesizer-type voice speaking them: Category 5 Alert Alert Attention: This is not a test This is not a testAs the black wind begins to howl The tide recedes and surges storm the shore We’ve got to flee to higher ground Nothing short of chaos is all we’re waiting for This is not a test This is not a testIt’s the calm before the storm Then the tide comes crashing down The rain stings like needles As the wind whips round and round Thunder cracks and lightning flares In this category five The storm rages onward And there’s nothing left alive Nothing we can do to hold it back It storms the land and ravages the sea Nothing exists to stand in its way It destroys everything its eye can see This is not a test This is not a testIt’s the calm before the storm Then the tide comes crashing down The rain stings like needles As the wind whips round and round Thunder cracks and lightning flares In this category five The storm rages onward And there’s nothing left alive -the smurf

Not only is this the coolest thing in the world, it also works into a very nice song. Aurora Borealis The equinox approaches As winter turns to spring We gather in the snowy fields To see what gifts the sky will bring The array of colors In the magnetosphere Ignite the starlit skies Such a heavenly view from here O Northern Lights Goddess of the dawn Solar winds are blowing from the north O Northern Lights A plasma field of glory Solar winds are flowing back and forth Charged ionic particles Collide in eternal light Flashes in the polar zones Form astral showers in the night The rainbow effect In our atmosphere Delighting starry eyes Such a heavenly view from here O Northern Lights Goddess of the wind Horizons glow with flashing beams of light O Northern Lights A palette of chromatic glory Heaven’s artists painting in the night O Northern Lights Goddess of the dawn Solar winds are blowing from the north O Northern Lights A palette of chromatic glory Astral Showers dancing back and forth I'm such a nerd. -the smurf

With Horizons being finished, I've started writing a new "epic" story called Evermore, based slightly on Hermann Hesse's story Faldum. It's not big enough to be an entire album's worth of material, but it will be five separate songs. I've finished writing two of them, and since they're separate from Horizons, I figured it would make more sense to use this topic.
Evermore I: The Gathering
Our city has been destroyed In the aftermath of the war In our struggle we crumble forevermore We seek the help of Mother Earth To build a fortress for us all A kingdom on a mountain grand and tall We have heard that you are wise Will you hear our desperate cry? Can’t you see the terror in our eyes? Is it enough for us to throw ourselves at you? Won’t you create our world? There’s nothing you can’t do For centuries we’ll live in harmony Wish-granter, cast your spell and split the world in two The earth shall be our home We will live among the trees Free from war, murder and disease Society forming without taint Life revolving innocent and pure In the kingdom of Mount Evermore Is it enough for us to throw ourselves at you? Won’t you create our world? There’s nothing you can’t do For centuries we’ll live in harmony Wish-granter, cast your spell and split the world in two Is it enough for us to throw ourselves at you? Won’t you create our world? There’s nothing you can’t do For centuries we’ll live in harmony Wish-granter, cast your spell and split the world in two For centuries we’ll live in harmony Wish-granter, cast your spell and split the world in two
Evermore II: The Wish-Granter
I stand here before you all I hear your desperate cries I possess the power you seek I create hope before your eyes You desire a peaceful world To live among the trees Your wish has a fatal flaw But I shall do as you please I am the wish granter I am the creator of dreams I will build your fortress walls But it will not be as it seems You forget one simple key In your angry, passionate plea You misjudge Mother Nature’s ways You’ll be swallowed by the sea You have thrown yourselves at me I’ll build your world among the trees And you will live in harmony Then you’ll be swallowed by the sea I am the wish granter I am the creator of dreams I will build your fortress walls But it will not be as it seems You forget one simple key In your angry, passionate plea You misjudge Mother Nature’s ways You’ll be swallowed by the sea
Enjoy; comments and criticism are welcome.

It was quite interesting. I think I would have to hear it. Reading it, it seems to have a little too much repetition, but when I consider that it is a song, songs often have a lot of repetition. Do you listen to Rush at all? From their second CD on, they have created epic, fantastical songs. The whole time I was reading the above two, I was imagining Geddy Lee (their lead singer) belting out the lyrics.

Do I listen to Rush at all? They're only my favorite band! Hell, my username is The Spirit of Radio and my avatar is Geddy Lee! Lyrically, and mostly musically, they're my biggest influence. I consider it an honor that you can imagine Geddy singing my lyrics. As for the repetition, these two are meant to be almost like a conversation between the crowd (The Gathering) and the Wish-Granter, therefore the repeating of lines from one song to another was intentional. As for repeating lines in a single song, well, that's a chorus for you. I'm glad you find it interesting. I wasn't really sure what I was expecting with it, as it is something very different that I'm experimenting with. Hopefully I'll have more to come soon. -the smurf

I wouldn't have recognized Geddy Lee (never really seen them in videos or live), but I should have recognized that your username and your location were both Rush references.

Evermore III: Creation of Worlds
And the earth begins to quake Clouds of dust block out the sun And the world begins to shake Its creation has begun The sky glows a violent shade As the mountain surges forth Our utopia already made Triumphant winds blow from the north Wish-granter thank you so For doing us this noble deed Trading your ability For our need Evermore we welcome you You will be our noble home Living our lives in Your pleasure dome And society begins to thrive Songs of joy fill the night air We have never felt so alive And all our happiness we share For each other now we live About ourselves we soon forget Utopia within our grasp With this freedom we are beset Wish-granter thank you so For doing us this noble deed Trading your ability For our need Evermore we welcome you You will be our noble home Living our lives in Your pleasure dome No, you still don’t see Your way of life Will soon cause Your world to collapse You forget one simple key In your angry, passionate plea You misjudge Mother Nature’s ways You’ll be swallowed by the sea Wish-granter thank you so For doing us this noble deed Trading your ability For our need Evermore we welcome you You will be our noble home Living our lives in Your pleasure dome

Thank you, it means a lot. Meanwhile ... starting to wrap up the Evermore saga: Evermore IV: The Tide Ebb and flow with the lunar force The tide recedes as it runs its course The water’s edge erodes the sand Sweeps away the barren land Don’t you see where you went wrong? Your kingdom crumbles right before your eyes Nature’s ways must not be scorned Now you must watch as your haven dies Your fate is now set in stone You’ll soon see where the answer lies Time flows on and the rocks collapse Men take heed and the land adapts But you don’t realize your fate You’ll see soon, but it will be too late Believer, are you a believer now? Believer, are you a believer now? Believer, are you a believer now? Believer! Don’t you see where you went wrong? Your kingdom crumbles right before your eyes Nature’s ways must not be scorned Now you must watch as your haven dies Your fate is now set in stone You’ll soon see where the answer lies You doubted my words from the start You’ll soon see that the answer lies In the tide One more to go. -the smurf

And the grand finale! This one's mostly instrumental, so there aren't very many lyrics.
Evermore V: Goodbye, Mount Evermore
After all is said and done The world looks just the same The Gathering has vanished From Mother Nature’s game After all is said and done The cities still shine bright The forests are all empty In the frozen winter night After all is said and done The mountain is no more The hills solemnly echo Goodbye, Mount Evermore

I just read your last three lyrics posts, and again, they are very high quality. I especially like the conclusion, in all its brevity. I think after some cool instrumental stuff, one great verse like that is perfect. Where does the verse lie in the middle of the instrumentals? Instinct tells me it would be better after a long instrumental, perhaps with a little more after it, or nothing at all. I'm not sure it would belong too close to the beginning of the song.

WILL!!! Where on EARTH have you been? Didn't think I'd ever see you back again! Anyway, thanks for reading them, and I'm glad you like them! -the smurf EDIT: In response to Doan, the song will start with some harmonics and go into an acoustic guitar piece, then work itself into a chord progression over which a bass perform a quick solo. Then there will be a full double guitar solo with two guitars playing different lead riffs behind some kind of synthesizer progression. The two lead guitars will eventually come together and play the same riff over each other which will lead back into the bass solo progression, only not acoustic. This will be played behind the lyrics, which will lead into a repeat of the acoustic guitar solo at the beginning. This will end the song.
