Anyone here watch The Office? See the episode where the employees bring in their daughters and Dwight reads them that weird German story about the tailor cutting off kid's thumbs? Well, I just found out that it was a real story that is a part of a collection of cautionary stories written in the 19th century known as Struwwelpeter. Here's the full story (The Story of Little Suck-a-Thumb) Dwight was telling: www.fln.vcu.edu/struwwel/daumen_e.htmlThe rest of the stories are on that site as well. They're all pretty freaking disturbing.

A little more info... The story (seen in both links) is called The Story of Little Suck-a-Thumb, which is a part of a collection of cautionary tales made in Germany in the 19th century known as Struwwelpeter. It's considered one of the most ed up children's books ever created. If you've ever seen The Office, in one episode, Dwight brings the "Struwwelpeter" book and reads it to the children that are there for "Take Your Daughter to Work Day". Did that clear things up for you, or are you still (or even more) confused. Edit: Did you watch the video? I'm sure there are English subtitles. I'm sure Rodak would enjoy this...if he were here.

Nice find. Maybe I'll look for a nice, big illustrated version of that for a coffee table book .
