[white]Simply amazing!
I love this game. I'm just getting into this and so far I've felled four of the mighty Colossi. This game is just as beautiful as ICO and then some. So far I can't find a flaw with this gem. If you haven't yet played this game, or its similar predecessor, ICO, I strongly suggest you do so at your earliest convenience.
I have bought and sold ICO three times in the past four years, each time playing it to completion. Now that I've finally begun to actually 'collect' games, this one definitely goes in the keep bin. Now, if I can only find another copy of ICO.
- Graphics:
It's not MGS3 pretty, but its a whole other level of gorgeous. Imagine galloping across miles of awe inspiring terrain with nary a loading screen to be found. How the developer managed to create such an extreme sense of openness I'll never know.
- Sounds:
Just like ICO, its not the background music that pulls you into this game. Its the accurate and personal sounds of the world, the Colossi, and the character and his steed that make the sound brilliant. No wasted effort. Exactly what is needed and no more.
- Gameplay:This is perhaps the most perfect blend of action and puzzle solving I have ever seen. Just as creative as ICO and then some. The 'slaying' of the colossi is repetitive in its nature, but find the proper how and when to slay is what makes this game so fun. The horse controls are chunky until you master it the way the programmers intended. Once you do it is so exhilarating to run full gallop across the plains while firing off arrows at the colossus and leaping off your steed while standing tall upon its back to grab hold onto one of the mighty giants.
- Fun Factor:
Other than the ultimate coolness of winding your way onto and up a mammoth, walking, furry, statue only to plunge your sword into its tender spots and watch it crumble and fall to the earth, there's almost no fun at all. Minus the massive beautiful world you explore on horseback, the subtle intrigue of the plot and joy solving awesome puzzles when your life desperately depends on it that is.
Buy it, rent it, play it, love it. Oh yeah, watch those feet, those colossi are careless as hell.[/white]
