Okay I did a ton more of scripting today, and hey I finally got to test some of them out finally lol! Well I have the onscreen display working Max HP is 1000hearts. Also I got the enemies attack to work, I just made a slime dude like from my zelda game and got him to work. It's awesome!!! Everything works well. Now I just have to make a quick attack for Shadow to test that you can damage the enemy as well as they damage you lol. After that I pretty much have the entire battle system done. And will be able to create any attack or weapon in a matter of minutes by recycling all the scripts I've made already.
The condition graphic in the top right corner works well to. As your walking around it is green, when your attacked it goes red and Shadow goes "*ugh!", then it turns yellow for 60f in which you are invulnerable to attacks, then back green. When you block, it will be blue, and when you aren't in a battle and can't use weapons (like in a house) it is Gray(grey for canadians ;-))

These sound like great ideas, Nash. Hopefully, I'll have my X-Port by the time the demo can be downloaded. But, this probably won't get released for a while and I have the money for an X-Port, so it's all good. I bet you have more money than me to pay for one. I want a max drive but nooooo! I only have $0! Yesterday I spent my last ten buying a 128 mb pendrive from one of my friends.....

Okay you've heard some of the battle system and jumping and stuff about shadow. Now it's about time I told you guys about the storyline. Some of it is still tentative but here it is:
"Shadow is not good or evil. He is the balance. He is what keeps the forces hindered so one side does not gain complete control. In times where one is overly dominant he goes to diminish that side. He is not kept by time. But as he changes one part in time he may have to go back or forward depending on what has now changed with that. His ultimate goal is to create the world of the equal balance, however if he shall die and lead one side to domination...he has failed. Time shall tell which force shall prevail Good, Evil, or Shadow. For a shadow can't be made in the dark without light. Nor with light and no dark does a shadow exist either."
There's the general idea. As for more into that with the game. You'll start with your basic shadow attacks, but there will be the four elements of earth that will have there own set of attacks to unlock and raise up as well. Earth, wind, fire, water. Hopefully this will work out nice but I'm already having one problem with the battle system. I'll hopefully get this straightened out and not have to redo too much. Also enemies will turn into different things when they die. Some will be health, some experience, and other will be one of the elements you unlocked. I'm thinking that you'll have a certain power lv for each element that will be used up and when you kill enemies you'll get these aura things that bring it back up.

YAAAAAY I got the battle system attacks working. That means Shadow is all ready to start mass production! lol Anyways this is where I branch the game, I'm keeping a back-up save that I will use to start future ACBS Games like my next zelda installment I have planned. Now I will work on this kickass mecha battle I'm not sure which of the two mecha battles I have drafted out will be the end of the demo but I'm sure it will be cool.
BTW the attacks work VERY VERY Fluid in this game, You can attack like infinitely in a row in this game rapidly with no delays, and I can get away with this becuase enemies have delay times after there hit until they can be hit again. I also should start working on a title screen and opening etc... We'll see how far I get, too bad I have to work tomorrow...oh well I need money too :-)

I've been working on Shadow and it's coming along great!! I've created a few attacks already and only one will be unlocked right away others will be learned by enemies etc...
Shadow Jump Attack: Shadow hops in the air and lands in his ball one spot forward hitting the enemy then returns back.
Shadow Squash: Shadow jumps up in the air in his ball then comes down wich squishes his body so that hit's all eneimes around shadows body.
Shadow Dash: Shadow spurts forward 3 spaces attacking all 3
Jump: then i just have the square square do jumps
I also made the first boss, it is a very tough battle unless you come up with a plan fast. The enemy mecha is only vulnerable during a small amount of time. And his attacks aren't easy to dodge. It's the mecha head battle. It shoots out missiles to 3 locations. After 10 of them it opens it's mouth to charge for a super attack that will slotter you unless ya get far away lol. I think people will like it. I also have plans for a little demo world before the boss. Expect a demo soon but I may not have another one till I finish after that.

Well hopefully soon. I've been very busy though with my job and have State Music in Minot (by you) this weekend so we'll see. But I've been trying, and a demo should be not too far off. But probably a relatively simple one just showing the battle system, demo level, and boss ;-)

That's right I've finished a very short demo for shadow, but it'll be a bit before I get the link out to you guys. I have to give it to codejunkies then wait for them to put it up. But otherwise it's AWESOME!!!

Good thanks. Oh did you beat the boss then?? Die a few times?? I think he's easy, but I know the pattern to win so idk. What you think of the jumping system? Oh and the controls, the controls will change more than likely being as I have to make a combo system in it and a few other things, but were they ok? Oh and finally what would you like to see done in the game?
Edit: Oh and for the arrows that come from the floor, the ones that don't have the O where they come out just damage you, but the other ones will instantly kill you. Pretty good environment interaction though??

Ugh, that stupid boss is impossible. There is no where you can stand where you won't take damage and it only takes two hits to die. What the heck are you suppose to do?
I didn't really like the first part of the game either. Everything was scripted so you had little control of shadow. All you could do was find the right place to stand and press the correct button. I died many times trying to make that diagonal jump, both before I knew what I was suppose to do and after.
The battle with the slime was okay. I didn't really like that you had to wait between every hit but I could live with that.
The statue never comes back after you die and the slime won't come back until you fight the boss. You can get two free hearts if you're quick enough (they disappear soon after you come back after dying).
It would be nice if you could jump in any direction at any time so you could feel more in control of the character. You would still need to script jumps over gaps, but you could make it so you could jump over the slime (and other enemies) whenever you want. Being able to jump to avoid the boss's attacks would be nice as well.
The spear traps should be on a timer instead of player comtrolled. Once you know the secret, they are too easy to avoid.
Overall I found the demo more annoying then fun. I can see it has some potential to be a good game, but the game will require more puzzle elements and less dying. I suppose some people might like a hard game that causes you to die every few seconds, but this is not my cup of tea.

.....dungeon warden said it. I like bosses that are tough.... not impossible. It took me forever to figure out you could jump diagnol on that one evade the shurikens on the ground. I don't mean to sound harsh, but I found this actually more annoying as well... I do however like the attacks and such, and the waiting for in between attacks is a good idea i though . I realize this is a demo, and I'd like to see where SHADOW heads, just keep in mind that we don't know enemy patterns like you do, as you're the one who scripted it.

Good, feedback. That's what I wanted. It's nice to know to what levels I could have some stuff before it got too annoying. Hence why I had the one jumping part then did the same thing with the diagnol. I also wanted to kinda show off the jumping script I made, as how it checks your surrounding to determine the kind of jump.
I knew the boss was gunna be to hard, I had a friend over testing it right before I put it up and oh god. Not only was he pissed how fast the boss killed him but how he had to reget the three orbs after dying. I'll give a cookie to anyone who can beat the boss lol. I changed his health down so he is possible before I put it up. The boss battle was more so to show the capability and direction of battles in this game. Big Explosive Strategic and Diverse.
The slimes and enemies won't take as many hits to kill once I get the battle system going. I just had to make some attacks and demo controls to show a couple things of how Shadow will transform into the ball etc... I also would like suggestions as to what you would want the controls to be. What do you think is comfortable and easy. I did forget to put the Face command in it :-(
What else, the very little level was to kinda show how the environments are gunna be interactive. But it all got kinda compacted into a little area and may run slow for you. Also I'm thinking that having levels broad having mutliple paths to take to get to the boss, harder ones with better items experience and abilities, will allow for some depth and replay to the game.
For those of you who really want to see the end of the demo, I'll explain briefly how to defeat the boss, but you don't get a cookie if you read this lol.
Starting off run up to the closest railing edge before the boss. Now he shoots to 3 areas each 3x3 big, this covers the entire railing field. I stand on the railing to the western part right between where if you drew a line straight down from the boss head it you would be right on the edge. When a missile goes to the center take a step left, then when one goes to that area move one step back right. It's really easy if you just stay calm and tap a direction everynow and then. After 10 shots he opens his mouth giving you the chance to attack him as he charges use your [] X attack to fly forward ino his mouth. If your fast you can get in 2 hits. But when he's done charging he'll emit a shot that hits every spot except the farthest row away from him. So run down to the farthest row. Then move back up and dodge his missile attacks once more. 4 attacks with the []X attacks should kill him, and if you hit him 2 every cycle it's a quick battle. :-)
I may end up having a couple difficuly levels for this game too. We'll see what happens. I most would like to hear what you think you'ld like to see in this game. I still have a lot of enemies and attacks to build and nothing yet is set in stone. Just wanted to show you what systems I made, and what bosses were sorta like.

Well, I didn't make it past the first level.....
I liked the VFX for Shadow's attack, the jumping animation was great, and everything felt alright.
You might need to tone down the difficulty.
I couldn't get past the side with the saws on top of the block and you couldn't directly jump over them.
Other than that, it was nice, I look forward to a finished version.
Other note: Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I got a ton of homework.

"I couldn't get past the side with the saws on top of the block and you couldn't directly jump over them."
Jump on the side around the trap. Then rotate the cam at a diagnol and press down so your facing the ramp then [] [] onto the ramp.
Thanks for playing, don't feel bad if it's too hard. Everyone else has some trouble with it too lol.

Works VERY VERY Well. Error free and the kind of jump is determined by where you are automatically depending on your surroundings. It runs smooth and is as easy as [] [] for now.

SHADOW UPDATE
Well i kinda lost direction a while back on shadow but now I'm back on track and it's cooler than ever! Here's how I've finally decided the game is gunna be like.
Start out and do a few levels that are somewhat tutorial based. Then after those few levels, you finish learning your basic Shadow attacks, and now WAAAHBAAAAM!!! You are now on a 8 level select screen, practically identical to those of megaman games. You can navigate around the map with direction buttons, save your game, do passwords, check level info, and go to the level you want. the eight levels have these themes: Plant Water Electric Lava Desert Ice Air Fire ---- Each level will be semi-linear with enemies and traps and secrets all over. Even after you beat a level you may come back and find missed secrets or secrets that weren't reachable until now. Some secrets will require special skills and equipment to get them.
Every boss will allow you to get a new skill, and hopefully you will have picked up equipment through the level. Some equipment includes shoes that make you jump higher or fall farther, armor for defense, power-ups for health and stronger majic levels, and even maybe some other secret skills to help you out ;-)
