Resizing the party smaller really helps to make maps seem a lot bigger. For a quick see my demo can show you. I'll bet they look good though. My world map'll probably take 1000 terrain and 700 or so texture and 200 events.

It's really not that much of a memory hog. Only the three main continents are going to use so much, the rest are small, and the sea maps will mostly be similar, but all different none-the-less. Plus these aren't my final draft maps, I'm constantly going back and finding pieces that can be erased and new tricks for making some terrains.
Also, orginally I had it all on one map, but it simply didn't have that epic feel I was going for. I'm thinking about cutting my map size down though, to a 4 x 4 rather than a 5 x 5, saving myself 9 maps.
