If there is one thing, any thing, in this world that has invigorated, exhilarated, influenced, stimulated, and inspired me in my life, it is the band, Jimmy Eat World. These are several noteworthy, true, informative, and interesting quotes I have compiled by and regarding them:
"Deemed by many as punk's quintessential middlemen, Jimmy Eat World resembles neither the unyeilding bombastic attitude of Fugazi nor the innocous, A-side mildness of Blink 182. In fact, most critics resort to calling the group a crossover phenomenon, one which tips the punk scales to a slightly more commercially viable position.
Nonetheless, the quartet [prefers] to think of themselves as explorers of the abstract, complicated, distinct, obnoxious and unrefined. In the end, Jimmy Eat World is just four guys who revel in their lives as musicians."
Jim Adkins - "If you want to get down to it, if you asked a room full of people what punk meant, I am sure you'd get a room full of different answers, [as with every label put on music]. I don't think it's important. I think it's silly to write for one particular group of people or what you think one particular scene is. We don't do this, we don't try to hide the music we create."
Jim Adkins - "I've heard your best ideas are the ones you think you shouldn't do at first. You do your best work when you skirt your boundaries. If you like something and you have issues with it, you're probably on the right track."
Jim Adkins - "We never censor ourselves when we're writing. When we're working on ideas for something it doesn't matter if it's approaching metal or mellow, it's always just about the best song. We've always believed it's not about us. We have our likes, and our tastes, and our problems, and our passions, but what we choose to put out there is really just about the music."
Any ways, the point of those was to show you guys about Jimmy Eat World a little bit, and about the way they work and think. The quotes pretty much say it all for themselves, and tell as I have how their songs vary so much that you shouldn't judge only on a few.
I will now compile a list of the songs that have most touched and inspired me in no particular order:
Night Drive
Hear You Me
My Sundown
Kill
Sweetness
Get it Faster
No Sensitivity
Your House
Just Watch the Fireworks
The following songs, in particular order of most-favorite on top, are my top-picks, and definitely songs I feel everyone should listen to:
Night Drive
Hear You Me
My Sundown
Sweetness
Get it Faster
No Sensitivity
Kill
Just Watch the Fireworks
Just Tonight
Your House
Now, it is your choice whether to make an effort to listen to these songs and/or pursue this band, but I do guarantee you you will not be disappointed if you keep an open mind.
That is all I have to say.
