I've been contemplating this for a very long time now and am still unsure what I'll do.
The prequel is really a mixed bag. The background to Kennith and his frustration towards life because of school and his father is the best part of the story, but otherwise it's very boring and cliched, and what I'd originally planned for later in the game isn't any good and I've been trying to think up some other story stuff to happen in the cave but I haven't thought of anything good. The prequel's only a sliver of the story in Paladin (and actually now with my newer ideas being implimented it could be removed), and in fact I have it where you don't have to have played the prequel to get Paladin at all. On the other hand, if I remove the whole Crystalis Cave I have nothing (nor have thought of nothing) for the player to actually play (like if I made it more centered around Kennith's good background). After having made the exteriors for Holmstine, I think I'd be fine with visuals, cutscenes, and dungeon mapping for Paladin (even though a few wouldn't be as good as a result) (which the other purpose of the prequel was practicing and getting better at that kind of stuff).
I know you'll mostly say I should do what I want to, but what do you guys want me to/think I should do?

Well, if the Prequel is pretty clitche'. then I agree you should work on Paladin, and make the prequel if you (or your players) desire it.

It almost sounds like you should combine the ideas for the prequel with Paladin. If there isn't much in the prequel that is important or interesting, maybe the best parts can be make into a flashback or a mini-quest at the begining of the game. I see no reason to make a full prequel if it isn't going to be that good. The other option is to make the prequel after Paladin if people want more of the story. By that time, maybe you'll have a better idea of how to make the prequel interesting and less cliche.

I'm thinking I'm going to skip it and move on to Paladin! ;D
Your idea there DW is great, and I've actually already done that minus the details of the prequel, hence why I'm going to skip the prequel.

Do like star wars did start with the rest of the series first then leave a little to the imagination to the people for the prequel.
