Here it is: [/url] s43.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2JO1IBIAURM6J31M2TOAGE1I9K]It's an HTML file. I'll post it in true form at The Mag because their forum allows HTML. I was in a hurry to get this up before work and the coding is very sloppy, but so what? It Works!! The final version will be clean. Opinions Wanted!! Now go and Vote in the VFX Guide poll for the full tutorial! Peace.

I remember reading that double posting in my own forum is OK, so... Here it is displayed with the wrong color text (I could not keep it black... suffer). rpgmmag.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=26098#26098Now there's no download, but you have to pretend the text is all black. Opinions STILL wanted!! Peace

Yes, that's very good. If you plan on making the whole guide like that, I must applaud you. It is very in-depth and explanatory, and makes using the VFX "scientific" enough that anyone can do it. Of course, creativity and artistic ability still allow the creator's imagination to shine through, but this makes VFX accessible to everyone. Thanks a lot for this service, and if you don't mind, I'd love to add the finished product to the RPGM2 Guides page on my site.

I had intended to submit this to all of the RPGMaker sites both as a First Draft and as a finished product (when the time comes). The HTML was written in Notepad. But when I saved the thing as "Web Page Complete" to upload in a zip folder, it added much code I did not need. Font commands at the start of every line, and other nonsense, made me think it was that process causing the problems. At least with the white text.... I use tons of empty lines to block out my code while writing it (since browsers don't read it) and uploaded this just after getting it looking good (no editing to clean up the code). The download looks fine, and as intended. Except for the extra border where tables overlap. I'll clean that up for the final version. See: Anyway, since it will be in HTML, you can easily make web pages out of it or just host the files for download. If you want the existing page, it is yours. I am still seeking a better way to format this... Is Adobe really the only way to make self contained, multi-page files? I have many, many screenshots for this project and it would be a monster to load all on one "page" of HTML. ...makes using the VFX "scientific" enough that anyone can do it. Of course, creativity and artistic ability still allow the creator's imagination to shine through, but this makes VFX accessible to everyone. I have said before that Academia's Biggest Mistake (after not being free) was separating Arts and Sciences! Remember what PhD stands for? Peace.

I'm going to have to give that a read when I get a chance. Just to see what you've done/are doing. But I gave it a quick glance, and it looks great (on the surface at least).

The easiest thing for me would be for you to just send me the HTML files (you can even leave them unzipped... just attached to an e-mail or something) and then I could put them in their own file on the site and link to it. In order to avoid the "one huge HTML file" problem, you could split up different sections into different pages and have them link to each other.
And sorry if my HTML advice was really elementary. I wasn't sure how much you had used it in the past...

Read it yesterday morning, sorry I didn't comment then but had to get to work and stuff. It's pretty good, but I could give a few critiques I guess. I don't consider myself to be hard or reading so the font size could be toned dow for mere scrolling purposes along with the pics linking to pigger versions of the pics. The article seems really Large and Elongated(?) and you probably shouldn't "digress" too much while on actual topics of your guide, intro and conclusion and stuff feel free. But when someone looks for a particular topic they should have instant info they need and not read through other text regardless of humor (canadian humour?) or auxilary info. Honestly not big dels but idk, good job none the less.

The Elongation comes from the way the Mag's board reads HTML. It's not normal. The image above shows how it should look. Being HTML, you can change the font size with your browser (Control and + or Control and - on mine). Hmmmm.... I don't know if I can do that. But I'll consider it. Thanks for the thoughts. Doan: I can get you the file anytime. It may be best to wait for the whole thing on VD. I planned on making several HTML files (so the linking pages would be easy) or a PDF. Peace. <><><> EDIT: <><><> I just reread the "Digression" seen in the image above, and don't think it counts as digression. There will likely be people reading this with no background whatsoever and I digressed to tell them that this guide will assume some knowledge that I did not feel like explaining (Like how to place an event on a map). But I know what you meant and still doubt my ability to avoid digression, silly comments, and general weirdness when teaching. You should see my tutoring techniques... I once made a Pervertiotic Table of The Elements to tutor Chemistry to those Perverts who had trouble with the regular Periodic Table. And it worked!! They Learned!! And I got $20 an hour to do it!!! That's more that I make now... Peace.

I don't mind the humor... if it helps me want to keep reading the guide, all the better.

Don't mean to push off your opinion Nash , but I don't have any critiques with it at all, Everything is set up just perfect for the "VFX Dummy", which it is aimed for, or for easier ways to make VFX for the knowledgable. And like Doan said, the humor adds to it, makes you want to read the entire thing, unlike a history book. I say Rodak should continue on the flow he has ridden.

Nash is correct in many points. I do digress a lot and lapse into Sarcaleptic Fits (uncontrollable bouts of sarcasm) which can put people off. But when someone looks for a particular topic they should have instant info they need and not read through other text regardless of humor (canadian humour?) or auxilary info. That is the only point I have trouble with. Knowing what people want is not possible, thus the "Idiots" guide approach. The later parts will build upon the previous, so there will not be as much remedial tutoring by the time we get to the good parts. I hope that reassures you. I want this to appeal to all. Criticisms are always welcome. Peace.

Wow!
It's up!!
Thanks.
The only problem I see is my own fault for sending the wrong file first.
I can send the corrected one again, or if you don't mind, just go in and delete the border and cell padding from the nested table so that it will look like a single table.
That would be perfect.
A full blown First Draft will be out Next Week. I'll send you the HTML as soon as I am done.
Thanks again.
Time to go edit that banner in my signature...
Peace.
<><><> EDIT: <><><>
OK, The VFX Guide Banner in my Signature now leads to the posted version of this preview.
It is now officially the last chance to make comments before the first draft will be too far along to be able to use them.
Peace.

I honestly don't mind the side comments and such, I just fealt you were asking for it to be critiqued so figured I would look for anything that could be considered unpro. So i just figured if anyone was seriously using this thing for like fast reference or help they should have the info they want in a contained and formal manner. But honestly that's getting a little too nit-picky for what we're all in. It's all up to you.

The most important life lesson I have ever learned is that Silliness is acceptable in a professional setting.
Tutoring Chemistry by making Sexual analogies I cannot repeat on this board (and getting positive results!), along with noticing that writing ridiculously florid lab reports full of adjectives and personal feelings (and bad jokes) did not effect my grades (which were all A's except for Quantitative Analysis where we got graded only on the quality of our analyses... you were allowed a 2 part per million error to get an A and 5 for a B) (I got a B, but forget my average ppm error) so long as the technical stuff was all there and accurate, was a valuable experience!
Wow... that was all one sentence.
And Grammatically Correct too.
I won't write the guide like that.
Peace.

Wait... why's the page even in a table to begin with? If you don't have a problem with it, I'll just remove the tables altogether.

Post by Rodak on Feb 11, 2006 5:31:39 GMT -5
Can you wrap text around images without tables?
I never thought to try.
More of the problems of being self taught.
Would simply text aligned left, images aligned center, and more text aligned right do the job?
I'll give it a shot.
Feel free to edit it however you like.
I have been an editor and worked under them, so I don't get too poopy if someone does a little editing to my stuff.
If I get the stuff working without tables that would really simplify things...
Thanks again.
I'll go open notepad.
Peace.

i know im ressurrecting a dead topic, but i thought this info is worth passing on (to everyone). the little heard of www.openoffice.org (copy and paste it, im lazy tonight) will allow you to publish in pdf formats. its also an open source software, so youll be supporting the open source community. ive used it for a while with no complaints (it will also work with microsoft document types .doc and .wrd). the program to look for is writer, but the entire suite is, well, sweet. *drumroll*
