well, i don't want to get bored of Spirit Saga and have nothing to do, so i figured i'd get a head start on my newest idea. this is my Majora's Mask spin-off idea that i was talking about is some other post (can't remember where)
anyway, it has no relation to SS1, and it will be on RPGM3, only cause of the mask graphics and stuff. so it looks like Chronicle Games has dicovered a new series. the only thing it has in common with SS1 is spirits being revived (hence "Spirit Saga")
well, there will be one major town in the game, with maybe 75 people or so. i'll make them in the order of importance, so like really important NPCs come first, and then ones with side quests (in order, of course) and then useless people. this prevents my confusion.
anyway, the story goes kinda like this:
way back when the land was new, an army of settlers came in looking for a place to settle. they discovered three tribes living on the land already, so they interacted. (the army was friendly, not bloodthirsty)
well, the army's leader learned that each tribe had a ceremonial mask that was used to pray to the spirits. he then later learns that the tribes are satanic, and are planning to use the masks to summon the three spirits of hell. upon learning this, the army is ordered to attack and destroy the tribes. the leader then takes the masks and tries to destroy them, but the magical barrier surrounding them is too strong.
so he does the next best thing. the takes the masks and hides them in three different caves, all in different regions. now, nobody knows about these masks, and even if they did, they'd have a hell of a time finding them. so the masks are forgotten with time.
now, there is a large town on the land where the past stuff happened. you are a townsperson, and you have connections with the king. you are the person he has chosen to be his daughter's husband. however, today he summons you to ask for a favor.
he tells you the stories mentioned above, and also tells you that he thinks he has come up with a way to destroy these masks. (how he even knows about them is unknown to anyone at this point). he asks that you go and retrieve the masks from the caves, and in return he will pay you nicely, and offer his help.
you figure: "well, its not like i have anything better to do, i could use some extra cash, and this will make the king and the princess like me even more, plus i'll be doing the world a favor. why not?"
so you head to the first region...
while it may be a little cliched, and kinda similar to Zelda: MM, i have some ideas for it. i was planning on doing the game with a clown as the main character, but there are no 2D clown graphics, so i'll have to use somebody else.
so, that's the basic rundown that i've got so far. i'll post more stuff if i think its important and won't spoil the game (i have a rough draft of an ending planned out).

change of plans. the games still gonna be made, but i'm changing it to RPGM2 instead of RPGM3.
and i may change the name, cause i may not use masks.
so that's it. i'll begin work when i'm done SS1.

#3 been pissin' ya off? Too limiting? I've started it up ONCE, and haven't played it since...nor maybe ever.

well, it is limiting, but that's not the reason...
actually, since there will be only one major town and a whole bunch of side quests/stuff in that town, why not add to it by making some stuff happen between, say, 3am and 10am, and only on tuesdays and thursdays?
i built a clock system (need to fix it up a little, tho) in a blank RPGM2 file, and figured i'd want to use it in a game, so...i decided to move SS2 to RPGM2.

well, i guess this is next on the list now that SS1 is finished.
Spirit Saga II will probably be less about the game, and more about me experimenting with RPGM2. i've already made the clock system (my thanks to everyone who helped) and i'm gonna go for VFX and stuff that i've never really used before.
so if the storyline sucks, just know that for once it wasn't my main focus.
so i'll be working on this for now...until something comes up, anyway.

yes, i've have decided to name this Spirit Saga II: The Yamikon Chronicle. does that mean...? yes, the Sagas and the Chronicles are getting married! the two serieses (what is the plural of series?) are getting combined. so this'll have elements from both. i've made the time control item, and i'm currently working on the city of Yamikon (where the name comes from) so that's what i've been up to. (hmm, this seems to be the third installment in the Chronicle series and the second in the Spirit Saga series at the same time...how interesting...) -the smurf

progress update.
i'm working on the town of Yamikon, and have all 9 maps made, and all of the buildings in place. i made the inn, the hostelry (basically another inn with a pen for horses), the potion shop, the apothecary, three food shops, and a work-in-progress weapon shop. i also made the VFX save points (2) and am going to make the treasure chests next. so i'll do a whole bunch of treasure chests, and then start working on townspeople. i will never actually be done this town until i finish the game, and plan on making the townspeople as i go instead of all at once. i guess i may be able to make the first dungeon soon, too.
so i'll keep you guys posted. hopefully i can release a demo after i've made a good enough foundation for my town.

so let's see...i made the intro cutscene and put all of the "events" in town that can be done before the first dungeon, and i made the first dungeon's region and the small village before it. so now i get to work on the small village and then the dungeon. yay for me. i may take some screens or something soon, and once i do the first dungeon i'll put up a demo. -the smurf

FREAKIN TITLE SCREEN!!!! ;D yeah, i made my first title screen! and it flows nicely into my intro cutscene. i knew i could do it eventually! it's pretty basic right now, but i'll add to it later (maybe). so i guess i should start my usual progress list... -title screen (work in progress) -intro scene -yamikon town maps -yamikon building layout -events available before 1st dungeon -yamikon field (work in progress) -yuki field -lumi and i'm working on the lumi events and then the Ice Cave. that's about it for now... -the smurf

progress is...slow...but should pick up again once i finish my mammoth history project...5 pages on Dante Alighieri... oh well...i'm working on the first dungeon and then i'll do the stuff you can do in Yamikon after it. then i'll take some screens and put up a demo. so yeah. -the smurf

i finally finished the first dungeon. i'm happy to say that i no longer have any immediate school projects to hold me back, so i have plenty of time for RPGM2 now. so what i have to do next is go back to town and add all the stuff you can do once the first dungeon has been cleared.
expect screenshots and a demo hopefully by the end of the week. hopefully.

demo added to my site at 3:45 PM EST on December 16, 2005.

-title screen and intro cutscene -story up to and including the first dungeon -chores for the townsfolk -the whole first region -the main town with stuff that you can do before the first dungeon (and some stuff after) -battle simulator that keeps track of your wins -fishing minigame ;D -tons of shops -vlad, the music man -3 of the game's 50 orbs can be obtained -some of my best work with the building editor (mayor's house with a balcony) -VFX (basic, but they're my first!) -best of all, Saturn's Clock!
so give it a play and tell me what you think... ;D

so i've been pondering what to do with this to make it more better. i've decided on adding a few things like: -a one-on-one (1 party member vs. one enemy) CBS with only character models (well, i have ideas for it, but don't count on its success... ) -an alchemist in Yamikon where you can bring materials and he'll make special items for you for a price...plus you may be able to get an alchemist's liscence... -see above, but with cooking -a dyer guild in town where you bring forest flowers to make into dyes, which in turn can be made into new outfits for characters (original? ) -of course, a CMS on square that keeps track of all this stuff, and will allow you to do alchemy and cooking once you have the liscences. plus, like in GC, i'll have events that can change your permanent members and stuff. also i've decided that the game will never "end", but when you defeat the final boss you'll unlock a bunch of extras. so, hopefully over president's weekend, i'll get some of this into action. -the smurf

Wow. That sounds awesome. I like the whole "dyes" idea. That's very original. And all the rest of the stuff sounds great, too. Can't wait to see it in action.

hehe...thanks. well, i haven't done the alchemist, chef, or dyer guild yet, but i've made and tested the basic one-on-one CBS and it works. obviously it's not pretty and needs some flavor and stuff, but at least it works. i've posted the script in the common script database. now to get to work on my game for real. -the smurf

well...uh...no, i haven't been working on this. there. i said it.
lately i've been playing some Zelda, and have been working on an FAQ/Walkthrough for Majora's Mask. It's taken up some of my time, while some more has been donated to homework. i do plan on getting back to this soon, though, and i've been thinking of some nifty stuff to add.
we'll see how it goes. so, uh, yeah, this post was really just to let you guys know that i'm still thinking of my game.

i must be the laziest person in the world...maybe...
i honestly do plan on getting back to it at some point this week, though, and hopefully i can get a good chunk done before stopping again.
i hope.
