problem solved: cutscene after warp

guys i'm stuck with my game, i was doing great after the treasure chest incident up until ...well i'll skip the explanation and get right to the point.

after opening the treasure chest i had it trapped and it inflicted the player with 9999 damage (well not really, the text box just says it does, it was just part of the story so he didnt really die it just looks like he dies)

basically it says this after you open the chest:

:<player name> is hit with 9999 damage. (sound effect)(controller rumble)
:<player name> was defeated.
:screen fade out to black, and defeat background music
***this next part is my problem***
:this part is supposed to warp the player to another map (under dungeon editor, but if it'd be easier under any other map creator to do this i can use them too) which is supposed to be the players bedroom.
:this part is supposed to start playing his bedrooms background music
:this part is supposed to make the screen fade back in from black showing the character has changed areas
:this part and everything afterward is a short cutscene

everything below the "***"'s is a problem because the 3 ways to move the player to the other map (warp, teleport, and location move) do not prove useful for my needs. most, if not all 3 of them make the game ignore any script after warping the player which makes the fade in from black all but impossible.

and then theres the problem of the cutscene once i fix the fade in.

i can GET the player to the map, but thats where i'm stumped because all the effects that happen afterward are ignored and i need them to not be.

how can i pull this off? please give me the most simple, easy to understand step by step instructions possible if you can, that'd be most appreciated, thanks. ^^

All scripts always end after teleporting the party. The help file tells you this when you hit start over the teleport command.

Please read the help files on commands you think may be causing
problems, or that you don't understand.

So what you do is set a flag or variable and then teleport the player. Then make a condition on the enter map script if that variable or flag is on and apply the commands you want to do after the warp.

Yes, teleport ends everything. If you teleport in the battle enter script it even prevents the battle from happening.

Don't feel bad. I made this mistake myself once.

If you want to move to another part of the map, you can use the "Location Move" command. If you're moving to another map, then of course the commands are ignored. You have to load in a whole new event set.

You can either alter the default enter map script (script 3: to map/facing") or create a new one. Every map has a slot to place an enter map script that will override the main script for that map only. What I do was create a new enter amp script and if none of the conditions are met, I call the default script.

One of my maps has 4 conditions on it, three of which are cut scenes, so I used a variable to determine which scene runs when the party enters the map. I even linked several maps together this way, creating a long cut scene that covered several maps. You just need to remember that everything resets when you change maps.

oh wow thank you so much but yes i already knew all that stuff about the help menu, thats why i posted here because i didnt know any way around it. i read the discriptions already on the functions but yes this solution should work just fine now that i think about it. thank you so much raith. i'm always going to come here if i have a problem dude ur the man.

Oh about the help files: note that some of them are mistranslated, erroneous, or weren't translated at all. Mainly the ones for Flags and Variables. So give DW some credit too, he made an awesome faq that cleared up the confusion and figured out what they really were.


Yeah, you end up doing a lot of directing in enter map scripts, or calling them from there. I have one thats maxed out at 999 lines.

Looking back I wish I had made a few more. A good way to divide them would be:

World
Towns
Dungeons
And a few special places.

Theres no flag that tells you whether or not your in the map editor or the dungeon editor, so if you ever come across a situation where you need the system to know that theres no good way to do it. So
its a good idea to have a separate one for the dungeon editor.

There are certain key differences, like weather effects. You probably don't want to hear a thunderstorm if the current map isnt able to display rain.
