solved:lowering objects vertically (;_;)

heres the simple version:

i cant figure out how to make an event object in mid air, lower itself to a lower altitude in mid air.


the explanation behind why i need to:


there is a simple pushblock event that activates a cutscene in my dungeon. when you push the block it lands in a square hole with water in the bottom, which forces the water to be absorbed into the soil below it. Meanwhile, downstairs, in the room directly below you (main dungeon room) the water is forced through the dirt so fast it squirts out of the soil in the wall and into a bucket hanging from the ceiling by a rope. The weight from the water is supposed to pull the bucket down a bit. Now mind you, there is a switch on the wall (the same wall the water came out of) jutting out just below the bucket, so when the bucket lowers, its weight sort of pushes the switch down toward the ground, and triggers it. BUT the bucket is not to touch the floor yet. Reason being, there is a floor button switch (whenever i make it) that when the bucket lands on it and pushes it in, it activates an elevator*. this elevator will be in the main room continuously moving up and down so that the player can ride it up to the platform that will allow them to take a flight of stairs into the last room of the dungeon. So my problem here is this, i try to use the event>location move and event>vertical movement, and 1 of 2 things happen:

1.) the bucket doesnt move at all
2.) the bucket falls but uncontrollably through the ground and doesnt stop until it hits the limits of the dungeon editor squares.

now i know the vertical movement cant be stopped even by turning bypass objects off, as i have read the help dialect. but is there any way at all to make this animation work?

*making this elevator work is another problem. any sueggestions?

The only thing I can think of is to place an event block below the bucket to hold it up to the proper height. When you want to lower the bucket, just change the model to a smaller block. When it's time to place the bucket on the floor, just remove the model for that event.

Since Events don't have a float command there is no way to move the bucket smoothly. The best you can do is fake it. Good luck.

The problem is vertical move sets the event to an exact Z coordinate.

So if you wanted to move it 4 frames lower then it is, it moves the event to 4 frames above the very buttom of the dungeon.

All you need to do is find out the exact Z height you want and enter it in vertical move. Each Z cell has 16 units of measure, so if you wanted it 3 blocks high you would enter in 48. gotta do some math.

If that still takes you to the bottom then make a second vertical move command that raises it up to the height you want.


If the bucket only moves up and down vertical move is fine and nothing unsmoothe about it.

If you need the bucket to wobble back and forth then yes you do need invisible stairs underneath it.

Events cannot move in mid air, but they can float there fine as long as they don't move in directions other then up and down.

Also, dont use location move to go up and down. I think it counts as the event moving itself rather then vertical move which is you moving the event.

That reminds me of the time I wanted to move an event from a down stairs room to upstairs. I have to check the location of the bed and multiply by 16 in order to get the position right. You might need to do the same thing.
