What happened here? The place looks like no one has been here for a while now! Is it because all of these people don't play anymore? I left for like 3 months and posts where coming in like crazy. Is anyone still at the pavillion?

I still check in on the boards every now and again (though school's been a bitch this semester), but I'm afraid I may be the only one anymore. I know most of the long-time members (Nash, Doyle, Jugem, Ves, TFR, Rodak) haven't been on in years, but Doan, Dungeon Warden, and myself still posted fairly frequently not too long ago. A certain incident about a year ago may have scared some people away (I know I left for a while after that), and it seems nobody's really come back. In all honesty, I've played RPG Maker less and less since I started college, but I do still play. I have my game on RPGM2 and another game I've never talked about before on RPGM3 that get a little attention every now and again, but they're far from complete and have taken a back seat to just about everything else in my life. I fear what's happened to this place is a vicious circle. People don't want to post if nobody's here to talk to. So nobody posts. Which deters people from posting. I for one am still interested in keeping this place active, as much of a dream as that may be. But I haven't seen Doan or anybody else, really, in quite some time. Hopefully people still anonymously view the boards; that's the key. Then if they see that people are still posting, maybe they'll post more themselves. Baby steps. As for the pavilion, I don't know who's over there. I left that place a few years ago and haven't gone back, so I don't really know. However, my guess is that the regulars who posted here are not active over there. Anyone who's been at the Domain as long as I have knows that there's always been tension between the two boards, and apart from part-time posters here like Draygone, many of the regulars here stayed here. Who knows. Here's to getting these boards back to being active. So, anyone who sees this post, log in and post something! Let's get this place back in business. -the smurf

I check in about once a week and read any new topics. There hasn't been anything new very often.
Things have come so much further than RPGM2. Even if I had time, I couldn't bring myself to develop in RPGM2 since there are much more efficient ways to develop and distribute games.
TheFinalRune had an idea a while back to rebrand doanthenado.com as a site for people (namely the 10-20 of us who contributed a lot) to just hang out and talk about all manner of things. I'm still interested in doing that. As it currently is, however, I don't expect this message board to ever get back to the kind of popularity we had.

You know, I feel like the boards have been that way ever since most of the long-time members left. There's been a little bit of RPGM2 activity, but predominantly it has just been conversation about things here in the Domain Chatter sub-forum. So yeah, I think that would be a great idea. It is sad though that the golden days are very likely behind us. This place and the RPG Makers are/were such a big part of my life. Either way, I'm still going to check up on this place as often as I can. -the smurf

It is really is too bad that so many people haven't posted here in a while (myself included. I don't think I've logged in over a year now). I've officially switched over to the PC RPG Makers, but that's not the reason I haven't been logging on. I think that Smurf nailed it right on the head. That, and the fact that we're all pretty busy.
I mean, a lot of us old members who were in high school in the beginning are now in college. It can get pretty busy during this time (not that high school wasn't hectic, but I'm sure everyone knows what I mean). But still, that probably isn't a good excuse to at least log in every now and again.
I'm going to try to visit this place more often, like once a week or so. See how things are holding up and maybe contribute some games in the future (if anyone is willing and around to play them). Really, I hope this place gets back to how it used to be. There really aren't too many forums on the internet like this one.

I agree with the sentiment of RPG Makers being a big part of my life. "Playing" RPGM2 and administering my website and then this forum were all major factors in reminding me of my interest in programming, which is what I'm now doing for my day-to-day job (not game-making, but still some pretty interesting programming stuff). While building RPGs interested me, I was always more interested in the technical stuff: solving the walking/waiting problem; building custom camera, battle, and menu systems; optimizing scripting to make it both time- and memory-efficient; and other "boring" stuff like that. I have come to realize that one of the things I like most about programming is the opportunity to make people's lives better by improving their toolsets and their overall workflow.
That's why the idea of developing my own game maker still interests me. I would focus on a few key things:
Ease of use - It should be easy to do easy things and possible to do hard things. There should never be a need to have giant "Script Branch: Sort" statements all over the place. The most common stuff should be intuitive.
Flexibility - As much as reasonably possible should be defined in whatever scripting language is used for programming. This means that nearly all system stuff would be modifiable. If there's something you want your game to do, you shouldn't have to resort to hacking around built-in limitations.
Quick Prototyping - It should be easy to get a basic version of your game up-and-running so that the edit-test cycle is as simple as possible.
Playability - The resulting games should be playable on nearly any operating system. It might even be possible to make browser-based (non-Flash) games.
Limitless - There should be no built-in limitations regarding size of storage, how sounds and graphics are implemented, etc.
Collaboration - It should provide an easy way for multiple people to work together on building a game.
So yeah, I'm still thinking about this kind of stuff. I'm not saying it's happening in the next year or two, but it's definitely something I've been thinking about.

Sounds good Doan, as a matter of fact Doyle and I are still working with each other I think at the moment we are working on a Space Invaders/Galaga project, to get us started into real game making. I would love this to be almost a social board but of course still have the maker forums. Also I check in here at least once a day, in hopes we can get some new posts .

I still randomly pop by every few months it seems, just to view any activity here (not logged in mind you). I had a lot of fun times here, and this place will always hold a place in my heart.
I don't use the rpg makers anymore.. Rather, I've been using Game Maker. It's an especially exciting time for GM, as Yoyo games is close to getting GM games to work on the PSP. It won't be too long before they start publishing some of the better GM games (that meet certain criteria) as PSP Minis. They've also anounced similar future ambitions, such as iPhone development, and an App store of their own (on their site) to sell the better GM games.

I know most of the long-time members (Nash, Doyle, Jugem, Ves, TFR, Rodak) haven't been on in years, but Doan, Dungeon Warden, and myself still posted fairly frequently not too long ago. BOO! I just found my way back to game making after a long series of horrible things kept getting me too overwhelmed to try. I'd been thinking about getting back into this when Valkysas sent me an email just asking how I was. Well, I wound up over at the Pavilion, logged in, and remembered how much fun The Clean Underwear Quest was - saw my old VFX Editor Guide site was still active, and wanted to play some more! Good thing too - the link to here in the VFX Editor Guide still worked, so I logged in, and here I am. Can't find my Max Drive disc, or any of my old memory cards yet - but I got a refurbished PS2 for $40 and a new-ish Memory Card... So we'll see what comes of it. Nice to see I was remembered! Thanks, Smurf. I look forward to renewing old acquaintances and seeing what new folks have manifested over the years. It's nice to see my old sub-forum is still there as well. Hope I have stuffs for it soon...

Great to see you back! It's been too long.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what new material comes out of your creative genius, Rodak! We've certainly had a lack of that for a long while.

We've certainly had a lack of that for a long while. -the smurf I've been away from RPGM2 for too long to try something new just yet! I'll be De-Buggering Videogamedrome (found half of my old memory cards, and one had a demo of it on there (but it was worked on before I "retired" for a while and now plays quite buggy) (even a few cut scenes are broken!). So far I fixed most of the problems, but this stuff is not coming back to me as fast as I'd hoped it would... A few rewards are appearing too soon as well - that is actually giving me the most trouble because I have to track down a ton of scripts and read them all to figure out what happened. Still, it will be out-dated when I finally finish it (The main Boss is George W. Bush, and before reaching him you have to fight Don Rumsfeld, Condoleeza Rice, and Big Cheney!). {EDIT - Awwww... Cheney's first name is censored?? I wanna do the Censored Word Bypass Trick, because it's not being used in a profane way, but that does not seem like a good thing to do so soon after returning after a years long absence } Plus, you have to fight Joe Lieberman in the halls of Congress. Not to mention the CNN Building with Lou Dobbs, Christian Amanpour, and Larry King as enemies. Turns out I have a VFX Version of The Starship BoobyPrize in there too... Must have been meant for something, but I have no idea what!! Hopefully some partial scripts exist for it, or else I'll have to design something for it to do from scratch (and my mini game skills are way out of practice!). But I have a long weekend to play with it, so we'll see if "I Still Got It" or if I really am finally just too old for this stuff.

Thanks, Drew.
I remember you having a different user name last I saw you - if you didn't have that google thingy under your avatar I may not have figured out who you were!
Did you ever finish Spiderman? That is you, and what you were doing when last we spoke, right?
I'm making progress on DeBuggering Videogamedrome, but it's not as fast work as I want. Some things I just cant find in all those scripts to fix...
Eh. It'll come back to me.
