I really like this proposed system. I like the idea of an RPG that is based more on battle tactics than on level. I also like the idea of a random model generator. My suggestion would be to create about 4-8 different models for each archetype, and then generate them randomly depending on the enemy archetype. This would cause the different enemies to look unique while still allowing for some basic identification of an enemy's basic style. This would also allow you to create non-random, unique models for key enemies without it being too noticeable, as players would be used to seeing unique enemies and would be inclined to write it off as simply a new archetype or a version of one they haven't seen before.
I would really like to see a demo of this system, because it sounds somewhat similar to the goal I have in mind with my game. Mine will be a little less tactical and stats will be more significant, but I do want strategy to enter into the gameplay. Good luck with this.

thanks doan. and will, yes, tactics ogre is a large influence. some other videogame influences are fft, and grandia.
doan: thats a good idea on character models. i was just planning on creating a pool where any archeatype could get any of the models, but i like your proposed system a little better. i wont be able to work on this for a few weeks, but hopefully ill make some progress then.

Wow, this was a big read, but worth it. Nice stuff you got there. Nothing I really need to comment on. Mostly because there's too much to comment on, but none if it's bad.
I myself would've had generic models for each class/archtype with important characters looking different, as in my experience knowing when I see an important character isn't that big of a deal. Sure, I know that the new guy is probably stronger than the rest and I'd base my strategy off of that, but most of the time I see a new guy, he already is playing an important speaking role before or in the battle anyway. Still, having somewhat random models sounds interesting enough, and I guess at least the unimportant characters won't look so generic that they become boring.
