Don't know if you've played Paper Mario 2, but it has 7 or 8 riddles in the final dungeon.
River. Do I get a cookie?

Your idea of letting the player solve the puzzle or the riddle to advance is great Link05. Definitely a good idea for any more puzzle/riddle oriented games.

Riddle me this:
"Three equally quallified men apply for the same position. All three possess great skill for the position and the interviewer can't decide who to hire. He sits all three men down and tells them he will put a mark on each of there foreheads, either white or black. He instructs them to stand if they see a black mark on one of the other men's heads. Then, to raise there hand when they figure out what color mark is on their own head. After placing the marks all three men immediately stand up. Then, after several minute one man raises his hand and tells the color of the mark on his head. He gets the job."
Now, what color mark did the man have? And how did he know?

Well, you don't know enough to be definitely sure.
Either:
It was 3 blacks, so all stood up, or 2 blacks and a white so all stood up. From deductive reasoning any of them could've figured it out. If they saw a white on one guy's head and a black on another they'd know they were a black and if they saw two blacks they wouldn't know if they were white or black. The problem is that (I think) you missed a detail that there were at least one white and one black mark total.

I used to know a riddle that was extremely hard... err... well to me. It had to do with a fish but I can't remember it. I'll find it and show you guys. Be right back!

There was no info left out, the correct answer was all three had balck marks. There was hesitation because all were wondering if they had a white mark. The winner realized that if one of the other two saw a white mark on his head they would have found the answer right away. Thus he concluded all must have black marks and so he got the job.
Good deduction there Watson.

It depends on several things. For one, dungeon length. If a dungeon has a lot of battles, there better not be too many puzzles. I don't want to spend an hour in a single dungeon. It also depends on the length of those battles. In Zelda games, battles last just a few seconds, so they can throw in a lot of puzzles. But if most battles take a few minutes (which is a little too long for a regular battle anyway), then the puzzles need to be spread apart some. Plus, there should never be random battles in the same room with a puzzle that requires walking around (like moving stone or carrying an artifact). Non-random battles are okay, if a little distracting. And THAT is why the monsters in Patrick's Journey were easy to defeat, they were supose to be in the way and do some damage and status effects on you. Though, the puzzles still sucked , I don't know how it's even possible to make good puzzles with RM1 because of thos LIMITATIONS. But, anyway, with Monkey Brothers, I'll try not to have those limtations stand in my way . EDIT: I hope the review goes out okay with this game . I hope the overall score is at least a 5.

IMO, don't make the battles so easy. If you're going to have a lot of puzzles in your game, make either a small amount of battles or no battles at all.
It could make the game much more enjoyable.

i agree. im still trying to find a premise where few battles would work well in a game, though...

The RPGM1 limitations did stump me too, but some people did do awesome stuff with it. Draygone's Jester's Hunt was a Banjo-Kazooie like game for RPGM1. If only I could find my old dex drive, I want to play it real badly!

Yes, find a dex drive Will, Jester's Hunt is really good for an RM1 game. From a scale through 1 and 10, I'd give Jester's Hunt a 10 just because of the complex stuff and that it was fun. ;D

It lets you play PS1 games on your PC. www.epsxe.com/download.phpAssuming the newest versions are like the version I have (it's one of the older versions), you'll have to search for a video plug-in to use with it. I'm pretty sure Valk recommended it once or twice before, so it's definately okay to use if you already have a PS1 or PS2.

A little late into this discussion, but I enjoy good puzzles in a game. But they better have a logical solution, and not be solely based on trial and error. I hate to single Nash out, but there was one puzzle there that I didn't really like. There was a room in the first dungeon that had a bunch of switches. And even though I pressed some switches, I had no idea what effect this had sometimes. So it ended up partly being a guessing game. Still looking forward to playing your full game though Nash. But DW brought up a good point regarding puzzles in RPGM2. There may be an urge to think that maybe the developer made a mistake and that a bug in the game is preventing you from solving a puzzle. I can only hope that when I release my game (yes, I still have plans to finish it), that this won't be the case. I will assure you that if you can't advance in the game, it will be because you haven't thought of the solution. Not because you've managed to "trap" yourself or something.

OOh I have lots more of different better puzzles in the actual game Jugem You'll have to try out. The block/switch one is one of the hardest plus it's in the first dungeon so it kinda sucks but idk, if you pay attention to what moves after the switch is hit you can figure it out.

Sorry, I was just picking on one of your puzzles. I've sent a PM to Doan about sending him my memory card, so I hope I'll be able to play your game soon. And hopefully that will inspire me to work that much harder on my own game.
