This is sort of the grand unveiling of my project, which is over 50% done now. I figure it is time to get some info out about it.
This is a side scrolling action adventure that takes place in one huge stage(think 2d castlevania's), with additional areas becoming accessible at certain points or when a certain ability is acquired.
Superboy starts out pretty weak, so experience gained from beating enemies can be spent on upgrading his three main powers in the game, Heat Vision, Super Breath, and Super Punches, which have multiple levels. Superboy also has a limit break type of ability, which will also upgrade with the character.
The story is simple, Darkseid hatches a plan to destroy Superman at last, by finding a way to go back into time and killing him before he develops his abilities. There is more to it than that, the story develops as certain conditions are met in the game, told through cinema's, but that is the core plot.
I have spent a considerable amount of time developing the battle mechanics and I think they are pretty darn good. Here is a link to some screen shots on my crappy website. The photos aren't the best, but they will do for now. www.freewebs.com/kennykenmasters/superboy.htm

Hey KennyKen, I've been a member here for just a little while, but things seems like the perfect place to join in the posting fun. First of all, Wow! Cool. I really like the heat vision and the Pandemonium shots. Great! Nice job with the Superman logo too.
The superman symbol in the overdrive picture was made with the dungeon editor and then a screenshot from above, it zooms toward the screen and looks pretty good. The one on the character is just a vfx.
Reality, I definitely want something better than the pics I have. It looks so much better in motion, so I would love a video. So, in the near future, I'd love to have something done by you.
Pagerron, It's nice to see you over here! I'm glad you like the pics.
The game is running very good, In fact, I took the pics while my 6 year old daughter was playing the game! No joke. The only thing is that I've got so much done, but so much work is still needed, but this feedback motivates me to finish.
The Darkseid was a pain in the butt. He actually stands and breathes and then walks around and shakes his fist, so, I hated having the still image of him.

Just piping in that it looks great, and although your story is a bit reminiscient of the Terminator series, I think it makes for a good game idea. Superboy learning various skills along the way makes perfect sense and should lead to some fun gameplay.
I never even realized that it was the terminator story! It is.
yeah, it's such a simple story, but one that serves a game well. Of course there are a couple of twist and turns to make it unique though. also, this wasn't always meant to be a superboy game, I just couldn't justify calling it Superman with the kiddie look, It wouldn't have been right. I just changed the costume about 2 weeks ago, Originally, it was the actual Superman costume and I'm debating on keeping it in the game in some fashion. I wanted it to be more modern though something like this.
and here is an actual pic of darkseid as well as my vfx version, so people that don't know who he is can have a reference point.
Just to let you guys know, there are a lot more enemies than those in the pics. The camera I was using was running low on batteries, so I just had to work with what I got. The pics are all in the beginning area of the game, but there is a good variety in level design though and ways to interact with the game. For example, if your moving left to right and see a building above in the background, you will be able to go inside the building(or caves, whatever). Plus, when you get to metropolis, you can(you'll have to) explore skyscrapers and stuff. It will get fairly complicated, so I will have to implement a map for the player. I am open to suggestions on how best to do it. Superboy will sometimes run into missions too. I'm hoping to maintain a high level of freshness throughout. You guys really gave me a kick in the butt with the positive feedback. Thank you.

I'm just going to continue in this topic until I get my own forum.
I've been doing steady work lately. I've found the perfect window to work on my game, so I'm getting about 2 hours of design time a day. It doesn't sound like much, but a lot of the time consuming things are already done and developement has been really going quickly.
I decided to trash almost all of my dungeon editor maps a couple of weeks ago, as I feel I am much more capable now. I can whip up a map fairly quickly, unless it has some special feature(like a cinema, suprise attacks!). I should have a teaser video up via realitybites in the next couple of weeks or so, I think it will be impressive. Reality's screenshots and stuff are really nice.
right now I am starting work on what I'm calling a groove system. what this system does is grant superboy a temporary power boost. So, if you pull off 15 straight hits(example) without being hit yourself, you might gain a heat vision level, or a punch level, You will keep these abilities until you get hit or a specific amount of time goes by, or maybe I'll limit it to a number of uses so you could take the chance and save your temporary ability boost for a boss battle. I think this will add some more stategy into the game and also encourage the player towards becoming a better player. Plus , I can add another level for when the ability is topped out, that will be really, really strong.

Yep whenever you get your maxdrive, I can't wait to preview it! But for some odd reason, my new software for my TV Tuner doesn't have sound when I play so I have to hook the sound up to the TV, but don't worry, oddly when you record it you hear no sound yes, but when you play it back your hear the sound.
yeah, I'm excited about it bro. I'm really trying to put some final polish on certain things. I might release a demo soon after the video, I don't know.
I made my first cut scene yesterday and all I have to say is tedious. Man, it turned out OK, but I started to get frustrated trying to get the camera just right. I want to add a couple more before sending the file as well as properly implement darkseid into the game.
I can't wait to have a high quality video of my work. you're awesome.
