I don't know why, but it's like I've lost all motivation to work on my RPG. It's weird. Things are going great for me in other areas of my life, but when it comes to game making, I just can't get the motivation to work on it. Has this ever happened to anyone? I don't know what to do. I enjoy working on my game, but I'm just lost.

Um... yeah. I haven't really touched RPGM2 in, er... well a long time. Yes, I know that's very bad coming from the main admin of an RPGM2 site, but it's the truth. One big problem, of course, is being really busy with other things. The other, more serious, "problem" is that I have now seen many other, "real" programming languages that are much more concise and elegant. In other words, programming on RPGM2 kind of frustrates me at times because it doesn't have some of the basic functionality that I would like. It also makes some things hard, such as sharing scripts and including custom art and music.
That brings me to what I would really like to do. I have been tossing the idea around for sometime to try to develop a cross-platform, open source RPG making program. I don't want anyone to get their hopes up, because I also have about 3 other projects that I have to or would like to work on, so I'm not sure if this is something that would ever actually become a reality.
Before I do that, though, I do want to redo the whole forum/website thing to a much better setup. I still have not decided whether it would be better to write my own thing or to just go with a phpbb forum. The former would be good for customization to our needs, as a reference to my programming abilities, and perhaps as a possible avenue to money-making opportunities. The latter would be much easier to setup, since it's all written already (and free). So there is that to work on, too.
The other projects I have in mind (if anyone is interested), involve creating a music-oriented website for independent/local band groups to put their music on for people to play and download for free. It would have a service much like Yahoo Launchcast where you could listen to songs, rate them, and automatically receive the types of songs that you like based on the ratings of others who have similar likes and dislikes. There would also be a section for bands to post their information, merchandise, concert info, biographies, etc. I think this would serve the needs of general music aficionados who are constantly being labeled thieves by the RIAA simply because they want good, free music, while also serving the needs of small bands who are just trying to get exposure and would be happy making their money off concert and merchandise revenue. I am looking for feedback and suggestions regarding this idea, because I haven't really seen anything like it out there, and I think it's something that could potentially be big.
And finally, the project that I actually am working on at the moment is a programming project for the Math/Computer Science departments here at OSU. I am implementing a program (written in Python) which automatically generates logic problems, gets the result from an automatic problem solver, and then saves the information so that students can access a website in order to practice these problems. This is my main source of income at the moment, and starting in Spring quarter, working on this project will cover the full cost of tuition in addition to a monthly stipend of about $1800, so I'm pretty excited about that.
So yeah, RPGM2 is kind of a no-go for me at the moment. Sorry, guys.

I've really lost my interest in RPGM2. SS2 has been on hiatus for the longest time, and i honesty don't see myself going back to it. same goes for the Chronicle Series (though it was almost done anyway). RPGM3 hasn't come out of its case since i last played SS1 a while back.
i have been obsessively working with XP, though. it just seems like the perfect mix of all the good points of each rpg maker game.
but yes, i have been in that situation before. i find the best thing to do is to just wait for inspiration, which will then get you working again.

Lost inspiration defines my status over the last 5 months, almost.
However, I'm *finally* picking back up on it, mostly because I have high hopes for my final titles on rpgm2.
After that, however, I don't plan on using it again, and will transfer to RPGMXP.
Edit***
I havta ask: I wont be done with this project till AT LEAST mid summer, but it'll probably be late summer/early fall.
Will you all still have interest in playing rpgm2 games by then? I mean, taking in consideration about the amount this tool has died in the last 4 months, I'm willing to bet that only 3 or 4 people'll still be using it around May or so.

It's really not that I've lost interest in RPGM2. It's that I've lost motivation to work on the current game that I'm making. I just don't have any interest in working on it anymore. The good news is, however, that I have a new idea for a game. I haven't written anything down yet, but it's just too much of a cool idea not to consider doing. I will still try doing the other game, but this new game will probably take the place as the main game I'm working on. Doyle: I'd play it. Like I said, I haven't really lost interest in RPGM2. I'm not sure if people have given up on RPGM2 entirely. There could be many other factors as to why there haven't been many people on the board: -Life getting in the way -Lack of motivation (like me) -Lost internet connection -Death (hopefully not) And don't forget, we've got new members on as well. They'll probably be interested (and they might contribute a few titles to us as well). Just keep working on it. At least you know that someone will play it. That should be worth it at the least.

I haven't touched RPG Maker 2 in like, a year. One of the reasons is, because I've started a new life in New Jersey. It's not exactly tough, but soon I'll be up and out to the point where using RPG Maker 2 will be but a memory(I hope not though). Another reason is, I'm frustrated at what RPGM2 has to offer, in terms of flexibility. I've developed a decent shooter on RPG Maker 2, but it's just so frustrating to work around the limitations, after doing the same project in Game Maker. Also, I'm trying to learn Java as well.
I might get back into it, but it's gonna be difficult. I think I might just make 1 or 2 RPGs(simpler to make than a shooter lolz), and then quit using it for good. RPGM2 is great, I just happened to be growing out of it I guess.

[white]Motivation is a curious thing. All of us have suffered from occasional (if not frequent) loss of motivation. I myself have at actually spent a whole year without touching RPGM2. It's easy to let it go when the stress of life weigh you down. Those of us who work or go to school (currently my bum self is doing neither) while balancing sleep and a social life.
Personally, I find my strongest motivation from talking about my game. I discuss all the things I have planned and it gets my cogwheels spinning. I start thinking about this or that and before I know it I'm jotting down notes and typing up ideas.
Often I find that if I jump too soon on that initial impulse and fire up the RPGM2 software I'll lose that drive before the game gets done loading. It works best to my advantage to sleep on my ideas and let them ripen. Then, later I turn on the game and start fooling around with it.
The drive to create comes and goes and sometimes get diverted into other venues, but when it does, capitalize on it.[/white]

I shwear (<- purposely misspelled), you and your japanese kanji characters...
Well, if you're done, are any of your demo's worth re releasing? (ie: anything new tossed on them that haven't been released)
But again, I'm sad to hear that we wont see a full game or anything.

I always have inspiration...but lack of knowledge in RPG Maker 2 is what holds me back.
What I always do when I need inspiration is I look at other people's work. If I can't learn or find anything doing that I take a break for a month or so, and then return fresh.

You know, I haven't touched RPGM2 in a while, but lately, I've been getting the urge to play it. And I'm off from school for a week, so I have the time to mess around with it now. It seems a lot of the regulars are coming back. So, maybe this place will be just as lively as it was before. RPGM2 is reborn again!

[white]I have been suffering from a lack of motivation lately as well. I haven't touched RPGM2 at all this week. I think I'm burnt out from playing it every single day. Once I finally got something out I sort of lost my drive. I want to go back to it, but every time I start it up I instantly lose my motivation and feel sick of it. It's hard to push yourself to be creative. Especially since right now most the creative aspect of what I've been working on is next to nothing. Just knowing that scripting and debugging are all that await me really kill the mood. Maybe next week will be better.[/white]

My problem is that the RPG Maker community in general is at a development halt it seems. Especially on the RPGM2 side of things. I will probably finish Mutanic Fallout eventually. But as for Josaigdan, as much as I'd love to, I have too big of ambitions for it, and quite frankly I don't have the time to even conjure up the knowledge to do what I want to do for the thing. So to be quite honest, my expertise is cinematics and visual effects. The farthest I can go outside that box is puzzles and minimal cbs stuff, plus some other things. Not quite enough to make this as big of a title as I want.
Hell, if I knew more than two poeple were gonna help drive RPGM2, I would even like to make Hippy Hunt 3 after I finish these two projects.
I can't believe I overlooked this thread and actually find it quite depressing.

Lack of motivation? Get up, Kick yourself in the balls, slap yourself in the face, grab the nearest solid object and smash your head a few hundred times. When you regain conciousness you may have some ideas, if not, try again lol.
Cheers to me for giving the worst advice ever! haha.
Wow, I am truly no help =P
