Yeah, that was pretty neat. 120 drawings?! I don't think I would have that kind of patience...

I saw it on the better 'puter... and what an improvement!
I liked the eraser marks for a blur effect. It worked.
How long did that take to shoot? I'm sure editing was simplified by technology, but I'm curious if that was an all day project or multi-day, or just a few hours.
Peace.

Even with all the technology it took the better part of the day (4-5 hours) just to shoot and a few more hours to create the movie as I needed to duplicate some shots to fit the music. Actually, I just spend another hour today cleaning up the images so that the boarder lines (used to align the shots) wouldn't show.
The eraser marks were a natural part of the process of using chalk since I couldn't clean the board between shots. It was accidental that they work as a blur effect.

I was referring to the single image of all eraser marks. The others were barely noticable until you said something. It actually looks pretty clean. Keep it up! Peace.

Sorry, I haven't been putting up my work lately. It's been very busy these last couple of weeks. Here's one of the big projects I had to do before the end of term. I hope Rodak will applicate the character I chose, since I did it for him. Enjoy. Dancing Cow

Impressive.
And for Me??? Thanks!
The animation is getting smoother!
It seems to move much more naturally than the first bits you posted. School is working!
Nice interpretive dance too. It reminds me of myself in High School Gym Class when we had to do "Toe Touches"... I would always leap as high up as I could when standing up and get yelled at. I was also the one who got in trouble climbing the ropes because I went up onto the girders and worked my way over to the adjacent rope to come down.
I still take the last 4 or 5 steps in my parent's house in a diving roll, and I'm way too old to be doing that crap.
But yeah, Nicely done. I like pencil tests. How long did that take? How much of it is computer (in terms of timing)?
Keep it up. You have chosen a difficult, but highly rewarding career path.
Peace.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I don't know who long it took to make. I've been working on it off and on over the last month or more. I had a lot of end of the year projects due so I spread out my time between them. I'm sure it took over twenty hours from concept work and final clean up.
I had to do all the timing on paper before I even began drawing the character. I am quite proud of the fact that my timing was so good. Many of my classmates had a terrible time trying to get the timing to work, but I seem to have a knack for it.
Next term will be more computer heavy, so I'll be doing some Flash animation, 3D models (Maya), and CG backgrounds (Painter 8 and Illustrator CS). It will be hard work, but worth it.

My internet was out much of today and I played around with my gif animator program! Here is one of the things that happened for anyone who missed this: I had to drop a few frames, but it works. Peace. <><><> EDIT: <><><> Dungeon Warden: If you feel I have taken liberties, say so and I'll destroy all copies of the file!

Wow! Cool a gif of my clay animation. Now that I know how to properly do claymation, I'm embarrassed at how simplistic my models were. If you like it enough to make a gif of it, then it can't be all bad. P.S. Thanks for reviving this topic. My newest animation is almost done (I should actually be finishing it instead of posting here). I plan to post it tomorrow (or maybe latter tonight if I get it finished). Even though it's only 45 sec. long, it took three months to finish it (for course my heavy course load limited how much time I actually had to spent on it). EDIT: Click on the image above and watch my new animated short. It was a lot of work so I hope you like it. Warning: the movie file is 9 MB (it started out at 50 MB!), so if you have a slow connection you might want to download it (right click and save the target file) first.

Wow, Nicely Done! Was that "Flash?"
I need that program!
There were some moments where the screen seemed to flash (no pun intended!) brightly for a frame o r two. Was that just file corruption or was it in the source? Is it one of the inherent thingies of the program that created it?
Sorry for all the questions, but I am interested in learning about this stuff too!
Peace.

No, this isn't Flash. My next animation will be all in Flash thought.
This movie is experimental and therefore a mix of Coral Painter 8 (drawings), Photoshop CS2 (backgrounds), and Premiere 6 (animation). The flicker (flashing) is due to the compressor I used to convert the 53 MB file down to 9 MB. A little flicker is a small price to pay for such a quality compression.
I'm glad you liked it.

That was sweet! I liked how you ended the battle: very creative. And yes, the quality was very good for how small the file was. Overall, great work, and I look forward to more.

Here is is at last! My fully animated Flash short film. Sandor's PlaceNow you can finally see what one year of animation training can produce. Warring: Due to a requirement of the assignment part of the video shows some scenes done in rough animation. This is not a mistake in case you are wondering about the (short lived) change in quality.

Very nice work. I liked the amount of detail in some areas: the ability to actually see her reflection in the mirror towards the beginning was a nice touch.
I found it kind of strange that she was sneaking in at the beginning, and then practically stomping up the stairs, but that's a small thing.
Oh yeah, and I thought it was actually pretty cool seeing the pencil drawings. Shows some of the real work that went into making that.
Now that you know the techniques, how long do you think it would take you to make a minute-or-so flash animation, assuming it has a reasonable amount of detail (not a lot, but not stick figures, either)?

That settles it. I need to sell my house so I can have more money for animation tools! This Mortgage is killing me! (Notice the first four letters of that word?) Translation: Great Work! I found it kind of strange that she was sneaking in at the beginning, and then practically stomping up the stairs, but that's a small thing. I thought the stomping was funny considering she was wearing sneakers! You really showed off a variety of techniques in a short time. I can see how this was an assignment, but I like the way it shows off the potential of the tool. Wanna buy a run down home Deep In The Bowels of New Jersey?

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I'm not sure how long it would take me to do a minute of animation. I suppose if I had a month I could do a minute of animation that looked good. I'll soon know since I plan to make a two minute trailer for a non-existent movie over the next two months (someday I hope to actually make the movie). That includes concept to completion so I may not have enough time to do a full two minutes, but we'll see what happens.
