Ok, I am having a problem. When using the computer yesterday morning, I was installing the Sims 2 with the expansion packs. I have been distracted talking on forums and to other people, so I stopped the installing. Later, last night, windows stopped reading my DVD drive, my computer was reading my DVD drive, but not windows... It was reading my CD drive, but when I put a CD or any of the sort in it, it did not read the CD. Can anyone help me, I am trying to re boot my computer completely, but I cannot get the reboot CD to read... Can anyone help me?
Edit - I am currently updating my computer, seeing if that helps.

Did you try to restart your computer?

Yeah, but when I did, the CD was not being read. I put it in both my DVD and CD drive, but it is not reading... I am stuck. The only thing I know I can do is either: 1) Format my Hard drive then try to install windows. or 2) Update my computer and hope it works.

Umm you might try going to System > Hardware > Device Manager then looking at the entries in IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, and looking at their properties. If any of them say they're in PIO mode change them to DMA mode (most CD/DVD drives are Ultra DMA Mode 2 I believe). Though in PIO mode it should still work, it makes disc reads go a lot slower and user up a whole lot more CPU.
Also in this panel you can check to make sure windows is recognizing them properly. If you have another DVD drive somewhere I would also recommend changing it out with your current to see if it works.

Ok, I shall try that when I am able to get back on my computer, and as for the second part, I am trying to see if I can do that, the thing is, I have no extras. I can only buy a new one or borrow my dad's or sister's...
