I'm thinking of buying this game online. It's really cheap ($19.99) and I have yet to check out both Chrono Trigger and FF4.
The problem is that I've heard horror stories about the load times. For those who have it, is it worth it? Will the load times detract from the entertainment of the two games?

[white]IMO, absolutely, just for Chrono Trigger. I'm not a big fan of any FF pre FF7, but Chrono Trigger is the shiz-nit.[/white]

The load times are really only a problem for people who've player the original games are are not use the having to wait between battles, map changes, etc. Although the loading can get annoying, these games are so good that you really should to play them anyway.

Sounds good to me. Thanks, guys. Edit: Well, went and placed the order. Should arrive some time by Thursday, but knowing them (Amazon.com) it might arrive even earlier. Edit2: And I was right. It arrived today. So far, I'm really enjoying Chrono Trigger. I like how some of your actions affect the storyline (The Trial). FF4 isn't bad either. I just got to the part where you get Lydia. Overall, I'm enjoying both so far.

i amazon'd FF8 and FF9 awhile ago.
I've beaten 8, but the CD's got scratched, so i went for a new copy.
As for 9... its er... different. but fun(ny?).
I should try Chronicles sometime, but i've already beaten 4. (i'd also like anthology).

Ah...you weren't that big a fan of 9? That's, like, one of my favorite Final Fantasy games. Oh well, to each their own.

Final Fantasy IX is one of those games you either love or hate. People who like the old school final Fantasy's on the Nintendo systems tend to like FF9 more then people who's first RPG was Final Fantasy VII.
Personally I liked FF9, but it ranks around number 5 on my list of favorite Final Fantasy games.

[white]I was so annoyed when Se released FF3 for the gameboy. It was so wrong of them not to complete the set on PSX. I'd have loved it they had bundled FF3 with Secret of Mana like they did with Chronicles for FF4 and Chrono Trigger.
I didn't care for FF9 myself, but not for the gameplay. FF9's skill up mechanic was lame in comparison to the materia system in 7 or the junction system in 8. It really ruined the fun for me. Ironically, this is the same reason FFX never really impressed me.[/white]

I wouldn't say FFIX had the greatest gameplay in the world, but I felt that the story and characters was this game's strong point. Nearly every character in your party (even Quina to a certain extent) went through some form of character development and I felt it was all handled very well (I think Steiner's development was especially interesting).
