I am asking this because I like to think I keep a pretty good eye and ear on the comings and goins of the video gaming community, and with the recent porfit reports from Sony showing record losses, and Microsoft showing signifigant gain, I was wondering if Sony will manage to stay on top (assuming you believe Sony was on top to begin with).
I'm sure everyone knows by now (or you will after reading this), that Sony has published record losses for the past two fiscal quarters, and Microsoft is showing profits gains. This, along with Nintendo's forever aloofness, has made begin to wander to who the future of winner of the next console wars will be.
Will Sony's BlueRay discs be well supported, or will Microsoft's HD-DVD's win the day, and what will Nintendo do next?
Please select a winner and give alittle why and what for if it pleases ya.

Barely any games come out for the current systems because of too much graphical requirements. I can only imagine how few games'll be made for the next consoles. I'll probably only buy one after they've all been out for a good 4 or 5 years, and buy the games I know are good for real cheap, or just never buy one at all and keep re-playing the good old games.

I'm voting for PS3 because of Sonys record of giving consumers what they want. There will always be must have games on the system and the new technology promises more power and intergration with other systems.
E3 is still a month away and so we don't know what the news systems will be like. Will both the PS3 and NextBox be backward compatible? Will Microsoft include a hard drive or sell one seperately? How easy will programing games for the new systems be? What will be the selling price? Nintendo's new system will be less powerful then the others but promises better games. What new features is the big N planing and are they enough to get the sytem into peoples homes? These are all questions that need to be answered before one can speculate on which system will come out ahead.

Microsoft could just buy sony and nintendo ending the console wars. I hope they do not actually do this. There is no amount of money Microsoft could pay that would make Sony or Nintendo sell their companies. If the next consol wars go badly, Nintendo might need to pull a Sega and start making games for the other systems. Sony on the other hand is a huge electronics company, of which the consols are just a small (but significant) part. Who wins will depend on who makes the best games, which will depend on third party licenses more then in house games. If there are great games on both systems, then consol price might make the difference - although I suspect the prices will be the same. I think PS3 will come out ahead, out of brand loyalty if nothing else. Sony would have to really screw things up to come out behind in the consol wars; however, if Microsoft does the right thing it might be a close battle. Hey, Willian Kirk, nice job of ducking the question. This isn't a "which consol is better" topic, but a who will win the next consol wars question. If you don't care who wins, you shouldn't force your bias on the rest of us.

Oops! I forgot to mention something up there, which I'll add now.
When I said Sony is showing serious losses, I wasn't talking about their gaming department. Sony's losses are in their general electronics sales (walkmen, pc's, etc.). That Playstation is actually one of the biggest cash crops Sony has going for it.
Personally, I'd love it if Nintendo pulled a Sega and went stirctly handheld (gameboys will always be King in my book) and software only. I'd love to kick Koopa's ass on my PS3!
DW's right whene he says Sony and Nintendo would never sell out to Microsoft. As big and bad as they are, even Bill Gates doesn't have the money for that. Sony selling out would be like Coke-A-Cola buying out Pepsi it just ain't gonna happen.

im thinking microsofts newest machine will be the monster. the xbox is a superior console, and the next most likely will be as well. what the xbox doesnt have is appeal to all gamers. they dont cover enough of the genres well. but im thinking that will change in the next generation, as they pick up contracts with the more well known game companies.

Leaked Xbox 360 SpecsIf this site is correct, the new Xbox is a pretty impressive machine. Nintendo plans to make the least powerful of the new consoles in order to focus on a new game play experience instead, so I'd be very surprised if the Nintendo Revelution wins up being more powerful then the Xbox 360. It's all rumors at this point. No one will know the truth until E3.

Nintendo already refused Microsoft in buying anything of theirs. In fact, it was pretty funny how it turned out.
As for my opinion, the Xbox 360 will be the "bug zapper" for most people, but the PS3 will be the console to own(and backwards compatibility for both PS and PS2 could seal the deal). The next N console might be up to par with the other contenders, but if they want their console to be worth owning for more than just a small amount of games that are more violent than a Mario game, they really need to listen to what people want.

Sony will come out ahead again. Microsoft spends way too much time catering to the casual gamer, and the public's faith in Nintendo has been shaken for quite some time. Sony will really have to botch things up this time around to fall out of the #1 slot, and even if they do, we may not see a new winner emerge until the next round of console wars.

Although PS3 is the better machine, and Xbox 360 is a close second. Exclusive games and price will determine the overall winner. Sony has the edge but MS might make the battle a close one.
I think Nintendo has the right idea making a game console that's more about fun then power. Cool graphics might sell games, but fun factor is what will keep people coming back for more. The fact that the Revolution can play NES, SNES, N64, and Gamecube games makes it a must have in my book. Nintendo has made some excellent games over the years and the ability to play them all without needing to switch consoles is very tempting.
Making games for the Revolution will also be cheaper then on the other consoles, making it the better choice for the small publishing companies. Nintendo could end up will a lot of exclusive fun games that are more innovative then what will be found on the other systems.
It's still too early to tell, but it looks like the next console battle will be an interesting one.

Do you actually mean old NES and SNES cartridges or just re-releases? This sounds interesting.

Do you actually mean old NES and SNES cartridges or just re-releases? This sounds interesting. From what I understand, it is neither. What happens is that you can download the original games from Nintendo's website. I suppose the games will be changed slightly so that you can save your progress to the Revolutions memory card (or to the Flash Memory the Revolution uses in place of a hard drive). Whether the games will be updated further is unlikely but it might happen. Nintendo plans to charge a small fee to download the games, although there is talk of giving away older versions of games with the purchase of new versions (I assume by giving a one-time-use-only password along with the game). Doyleman, where did you hear about that device? Last I heard, you could use the Revolutions built-in internet connection to load the games straight into Flash Memory. I didn't know you needed to connect to a PC as well.

"Nintendo could end up will a lot of exclusive fun games that are more innovative then what will be found on the other systems."
unfortunately, this is why nintendo has let sony and microsoft surpass them in greatness. nintendo was once the supreme leader in video games, but sony and microsoft are adding features that nintendo just doesn't have, such as internet connection. in my opinion, the only thing keeping nintendo in business is their franchise of legendary characters. i can only hope that nintendo does something in the near future to put itself back on the playing field or else it faces many dangers. i seriously wouldn't doubt microsoft buying nintendo out.
but, this is just my opinion. i don't wanna see nintendo go out of business, so they'd better do something soon.
