As stated in the Domain Main forum, I am hereby announcing a "contest" to reward members for playing other Domain members' games. I say "contest" because it is actually more of a promotion, because there is no true competition involved. I must lay out some rules here to ensure that everything proceeds fairly and impartially.
1. Qualifying for Participation: You must be a registered member of the Domain with at least 3 stars. This should help prevent people from joining simply to make money. I have the final say on whether or not you qualify, so if I feel that you are not a true Domain member, I hold the authority to disqualify you from the promotion. Most people need not worry about this rule, as you probably qualify.
2. Playing the Games: You must play the game through to the end or total exasperation . That is, don't just pop it in for a half hour and then quit. Please give the game a fair chance, and if you happen to beat it in a half hour, that is fine. Some games cannot be beaten, such as sims and puzzle games (like "The Farm Life" and "Jugem's Tetris"), and for these games, I ask that you try out all the options and at least try to play them for an hour or two. If you are playing a game that is incompletable, or you did not play a game to completion, please state why in your review, and it will be up to the game maker whether or not you should receive credit for playing his or her game. Which brings us to the next rule:
3. Receiving Credit: You have played the game, and now you must make it known that you have. Find the topic in this forum with the same title as that game. Do NOT create any new topics in this forum; all topics here should be created by either Ves or me, and any posts that you make here should be a reply to the appropriate topic. Once you get to the game's topic, leave a moderate-sized review. The way you review it is up to you: you can use quantitative numbers, as long as you thoroughly explain the scores you give; you can give a Pros/Cons approach; you can give a very brief story description (no spoilers) followed by what you thought of it (sort of like a book report). I ask that your response at least be the size of one of these rules, and preferably longer. If you have spent a few hours playing the game, it won't hurt to spend 5-10 minutes to write about it. Please try to be original in your review of the game: it is okay to agree with what someone else says, but also try to add something new with your post.
4. Posting Etiquette: Keep your posts clean from foul language, game-bashing, or anything else that you know does not belong here. The idea is to eventually link to these reviews from the Domain, so inappropriate comments will look unprofessional and may misrepresent the great community we have here. Feel free to add humor to your posts or even go off on a tangent (not saying any names *cou-Ro-gh-dak*), as that will make reading these reviews more interesting. Just don't spend too much time talking about "poopies" or saying that a game "pissed you off". That is usually okay elsewhere in the Domain, but I would like to clean it up a little bit here.
5. Game requirements: Games must be created by a qualified Domain member (see #1) and must be a completed game that is not your own. There are some cases where the game is not actually complete, but is a "Final Demo". These count, also, but demos which are works in progress do not. Basically, if the game is found or would be found under the Completed Games section of the Hosted Material page on the Domain website, then it qualifies for the contest.
6. Time frame: Game playing and reviewing will go from now until early January, when I get a chance to get back to Columbus and tally up the total numbers of reviews, along with the GoogleAd totals. If you played a game before, I'm sorry, but for fairness' sake, that does not count. If you wish, you may play through the game again and offer a fresh review on it. I ask that you please be honest in this regard, especially, since it is not something that we can really monitor. Remember that if you cheat the contest, you are cheating every member of the Domain.
7. Prizes: Everyone who participates wins. I encourage you to visit the website 2-3 days per week and click on about 4 or 5 different ads. Do not click on more than this amount, as it will only serve to lower the amount received per click and may result in a GoogleAd "fraud investigation". We do not want that, because if that happens, no money will be received and I may be billed by Google for all funds I have ever received from them. Getting back to the prizes, the total amount of ad revenue generated from now to the end of the contest, plus an additional $50 to be provided by me, will be evenly divided up between the total number of credits. Each credit represents one review by one Domain member, so if 6 people each review 5 total games, that would be 30 total credits. Each member will receive the amount per credit times his number of credits. For this purpose, you will have to give me your address so that I can mail you a check, so if you are uncomfortable doing this, I'm sorry, but you cannot participate. You can ask Jugem, Ves, Tinbok, or Doyleman what evil things I have done with their personal information (nothing).
8. Bonus credits: To encourage members to play all completed games, if a game is reviewed by only one member, that member will receive 1.5 credits for playing that game. Keep in mind that if someone plays it after you do, both of you will receive just one credit. I would be very disappointed if someone intentionally gave a bad review of a game to discourage others from playing it, as that is not what this rule's intention is. On that note, if a game does get a bad review, I encourage someone else to play it so that we can get another perspective on the pros and cons of the game in question.
9. Have fun! Some of you may have played RPGM2 games a year or more ago when everyone was new to it and many games suffered from very deleterious errors. Remember that since then, our abilities have all improved and game quality has, too. If at any point you feel that something is unfair or that my rules are too tough, remember that you are getting paid to play games (and click on ads). That is not a bad job in my book.
