Hey all! I'm working on items, and I have about 110 weapons and 55 armor pieces so far. I'm looking for more weapon suggestions if anyone has any. I have swords, daggers, axes, maces, rods, bow and arrow sets, greatswords (two handed barbarian only), whips, and nunchakus. Any others would be highly appreciated.

Topics like this are just fine in the Our Games forum, especially since they help you toward your post count for a forum of your own.

Yeah, I didn't want to make another topic about my game. And plus, not too many people respond to my topic (or yet, maybe). I thought if I'd posted in the spam forum, I'd get more suggestions.

Well, it looks like you have all your bases covered... except for polearms (and maybe spears)... polearms were an influential and powerful weapon that gave a great advantage to armies. It did make it difficult to use a shield (and I think only a buckler could be effectively used while wielding a polearm), and thus it wasn't great for fighting against archers... but in melee combat, it was great. It was popular in asia. Also, if you can make them different than maces, hammers (both single and two-handed) were popular among peasants and the like.

By swords, do you mean various swords or a generic sword? Because there are dozens of different sword types based on speed, weight, damage, and craftsmanship. Each culture has further variations on these.
The standard sword is the long sword - not too heavy, useable with one or two hands, two cutting edges, and not hard to make.
You might also want to include fencing weapons, like the foil (a thin flat blade) and rapier (triangle shaped blade), because of their speed and light weight.
Crossbows are good for power but slow to reload (you could require a bolt item to be used each time you want to fire it - or have a one-of-a-kind fast loading version).
Nunchakus are oriental weapons. You shouldn't pollute your game with exotic weapons without good reason (and back story). Instead use clubs or flails (two other weapons missing off your list).
You're also missing staves (6 foot long poles compared to a rods 3-4 feet), knives (knives have one edge and daggers have two), spiked gantlets, military picks, maul (large hammer with a spiked metal head), halberd (pole with a blade on the end), pike (pole with a large spike on the end), two-headed battleaxe, etc. There are lots of poles, axes, swords, and blunt instruments used by one culture or another. This is just what I can remember off the top of my head.

Wow, a bunch of those I haven't thought of yet. Thanks King and DW! ;D I can't believe I missed the polearms, and foil ideas. As for swords, I have mostly generic so far. A lot of them have different names (so it wouldn't be so bland). So I kind of have some maces and some flails in the same catagory. It's hard to think of so many names. However, now that I look at it though... nunchakus aren't really something you'd use in a war huh... I'm gonna use everyone's suggestions. Thanks much! ;D

Here try this: www.diabloii.net/items/weapons/Then if you click on that weapon it will give you examples of each type. You shouldn't take these exact weapons, this is more just to give you an idea.

Lol, I was just thinking of checking a Diablo site. I loved Diablo 2, and I knew they had a bunch of weapons. Thank you very much! ;D

I got the idea for cleavers from Fable, but I made it more realistic, so you could add those. They're more like a big piece of metal sharpened somewhat with a handle and a grip halfway up the backside of the "blade" (for easier wielding) in my game. It should be weilded with two hands due to weight, so the character can't use a normal shield with it. I should also add that they're blunt styled weapons, sort of like a great (broad) sword. They would be used to crush through shielded opponents, rather than cut up non-shielded opponents.

Okay, I'll add those. Thanks! ;D

So... have you already written how the weapon system works? I assume that, since you have a lot of different weapons, that people can choose which weapon they want to use... but I imagine I could be wrong. What about armor? Was 55 all the pieces you needed?

Well, I'm going to make it so that people can make characters and change their class. As you progress through the game, more classes will be available. Certain classes will be able to use certain items. A lot of them will be hidden in different spots throughout the game. I've drawn a couple but so far (it's only like 6). The armor... I'm not quite finished, I plan to have more... hopefully at least more than 100+ (not including accessories) armor. I think I may have overpriced the items a bit though. By the time I was done, I realized that money didn't go into the millions... but looking at this, I'll make the battles give more money I guess. Unless variables go into the millions. If that were the case, I might be able to substitute a variable for money (if it's possible, I think it is...) Edit: "Certain classes will be able to use certain items." What I mean is like any RPG game. Warriors use most weapons. Mages use staves. Monks use fists, and spiked knuckles. Fighters will use things like a quarterstaff, or blunt weapons. So on, and so forth.

Haha, sounds like my game so far (Paladin forum).
I trust you won't use all the same weapons I post up, but just use them to give you an idea, or put me in your credits at least...
Plug for Paladin!!!
Alright, my weapons and armors are...
note: if it's in parantheses it was going to be put in but was removed at some point and is no longer going to be in the game
Weapons___
Long Sword Twin Short Swords Broad Sword Rapier Spear Pike Halberd Giant Axe Ball and Chain Scythe Longbow Crossbow Magic Rod Magic Staff Magic Spell Book Magic Orb Hand Axe Mace Hammer (Tonfas) Whip Gloves (Claws) Stick Small Shield (Giant Shield) Daggers (Katal/Katar) (Guns-Shotgun, Pistols, etc.)
Head and Body___
Well, with this I found a much easier and simpler way to do it, and since the weapons effected what moves could be done and armor did nothing special, I didn't need as many different types
Mage hoods/robes ('hood' 'cap' 'robe' 'cloak' mostly) Commoner hats/clothes ('hat' 'hood' 'cap' 'suit' 'tunic' 'vest' mostly) Helms/Armors ('helm' 'armor' 'mail' mostly)
"Shields"____
KingSpoom stole the words out of my mouth!
I realized quickly that Small Shield should be a weapon, one that boosts DEF more than STR, which gives the player more options to do, say if a weak mage needed higher phys DEF or something, and that for many, many weapons only a Buckler would work with them, so I renamed "Shields" Bucklers and made them all Bucklers
Accessories___
Accessories are the most fun because they vary the most. I just thought about my characters and went from there, like Kylie's "Cool Shades" then the more advanced "Rad Shades" and "Sweet Shades", or lots of various jewelry because of Claire - it all varies on your owrld and characters
Hahaha, of course in a game with 16 party members and 40 Classes you'd need this much equipment!!!
Well, that's all I have to say. If you have a lot it's good for them to affect the gameplay somehow, if not just cover the basics and that's fine.

Oh, you should wait till your done conceptualizing all your Classes till you decide on weapons. Take me for instance, Rapier's in there because of Fencer, Whip's in there because of Temptress and Beast Tamer, Gloves are in there because of Grappler, Martial Artist, and Gymnast, Daggers are in there because of Thief and Assassin, etc.. This is why the weapons that got eliminated got eliminated - because their corresponding Classes got eliminated, or I'd put it in there originally because I liked it (Tonfas, much like your Ninchukus). Take also for example, if you had a Samurai Class you'd want some type of Asian Sword (Katana is most common) or a Gun-Specialist Class you'd want some type of Guns. I've been down the same road as you, and putting in as much of possible will eventually overwhelm and possibly destroy you, so take your time and do it moderately. And, reading this topic may help you a some: doansdomain.proboards27.com/index.cgi?board=William&action=display&thread=1104191578 .

I think I got away with 8 weapon types (109 total), and 10 armor types (161 total), with 8 main characters. Of course, my characters are so heavily engrossed within their stories that changing their weapons wouldn't make sense. I still, however, managed to create choices.

Wow, pretty cool King. I'm taking everyone's suggestions and putting them in my game. The Diablo 2 site helped a lot as well. I think I'm gonna take out the nunchakus... just doesn't sound right using them in a game like mine. I'm trying to add more weapons and armor right now. I'm running out of names though. Www.Thesaurus.com helps a lot too with names. Thanks for your suggestions William (sorry I forgot to include), and everyone else.

Doh! I knew I was forgetting something. Sorry William. I forgot to include you. Yeah, I did add rapiers though. I plan to include more like knuckles for monks. I don't want to take your credit though. Sorry again that I forgot to include you in my thanks.

What I meant was, are you taking into account whether you need to have those weapons? I had a lot of excess stuff planned for my game that I've since had to end because I planned on too much, many of those being various equipment. I also made a ton of items early on because I didn't know how to do much else and was intimidated, if that's the case.

I may have some excess items. I hope to fill in anything with a "crafting system" like FFIX. Even then, I still might have a lot... oh well, can't be perfect I guess. ;D I still have the basic weapons and armor. I just wanted to add numerous items, I got carried away. I think it's fun adding items, dunno why. Maybe it's just me.
