This is to be testing me new Video Capture Device-A-Ma-Jig. It is just the opening cartoon from Videogamedrome, but it has a few things people always want to see like a Space Station, Rocket Ship, Floating Head, TV Set, and more. I'm curious to know how it looks on other people's machines. I have a crappy video card and a cheap-o capture device, but I can make this quality video at any time now that I have a slightly better PC at my disposal. Feel free to post what you think. Or not. Here is a link to the video. I used a different URL for here and the pavilion to keep it active longer. <><><> EDIT: <><><> This is now a permanent link! bovofluf.sky.prohosting.com/demo1.zipBelow are a few screen shots (OK, 6... I got carried away). My monitor is wacky and everything looks very dark. I hope it is just this monitor... Thanks for your interest. Peace.

Those are some pretty cool things. Just watched the video, nice intro cutscene ;-). Quite an odd concept being a weapon yourself but it works I guess...Good job

Thanks for the kind words.
This is making progress and should be finished by the time RPGM3 hits. I am limiting it to one block of one card, and with all the VFX needed that is going fast.
This is turning out to be a very educational break from The Clean Underwear Quest. I'll return to that a with more skill than when I left.
I'll post a battle system video if interest exists.
Peace.

Wow..... So... visually... beautiful! I tip my hat to you, sir. I'm kinda ashamed of my own VFX now. I made them simplistic for two reasons. 1) To save memory, as I plan to make my game a little bit larger. 2) I'm not that good at VFX Thinking outside the box seems to be one of your talents. i really like that VFX monster. Who knew a flail was possible (I hope that's what you were going for)?

Thinking outside the box seems to be one of your talents. i really like that VFX monster. Who knew a flail was possible (I hope that's what you were going for)? I called it a Mace in-game, but the proper word is Morning Star (which is too long for the ability name slots... so was Ball and Chain), a flail traditionally has three "balls" or sticks on three separate chains. These are sometimes called maces (along with their hard weapon counterparts (Quick Vocabulary Lesson: Hard weapons are things like sticks and swords, while "soft" weapons are things that bend like Nunchaku or this Ball and Chain)), but Mace is not the best name for it, just what would fit. As for thinking outside the box, well... I am a Chemist who wound up working with a group of Engineers. Tell them to "think outside the box" and they will just build a bigger box. Most Engineers are smart people, but not clever or creative at all. And I hate to disillusion you, but the "VFX Monster" is really a VFX Character visible in battle! YOU is the name I gave the main character who takes the form of several different VFX weapons and 2 or 3 VFX bugs (and a "secret" bonus form obtained by winning a mini game). I'm glad you liked it though. As for not being good with VFX, I found that the VFX Editor took a long time to figure out, but once I understood it I was able to do many things (and quickly too). Practice is my best advice. Peace.

Over at that other site someone asked to see the battle system video. I had it ready for rendering so I finished it and posted a link. As usual, I can't do something like that for them and not duplicate it here. So... Here is a link to the battle system video. bovofluf.sky.prohosting.com/battldemo.zipIt is just the second half of the posted video where YOU storms CNN (the Castle News Network) to get a press pass so he can enter Congress and stop voting on Proposition 7734 (plug 7734 in to a pocket calculator, turn it upside down and look at the display!). I never gave the Border Guard any real stats so don't expect much of a challenging fight, just a demo of some of what exists in terms of abilities and such. Once again, for ease of downloading, it is compressed. This time we have a 75 MB file in a 27 MB Zip Folder. Nobody complained about file size last time, so I just used the rest of what I captured over the holiday. If this one's too big, speak up!! I hope to get a video of the newer non-weapon forms up this weekend (2 bugs and a secret form I guess I should leave out... gotta save something! Play the mini games in the new demo, one of them awards a new form while another uses one of the bug forms) (my capture device-a-ma-jig is still newish and I need to play with it to find out all it can do. If anybody cares it is a "Dazzle Digital Video Creator 80" and I found it on sale for $65 and with a $30 rebate, so the thing only cost about $35 (plus tax on $65). I have paid more than that for some DVDs! It is not the best quality, but it sure is affordable and it does a lot more stuff too. Peace.

Coming from you, that means a lot.
Thanks.
Wait until you see the ending scene where that space station is explained...
I still have no idea how I am going to explain the floating blue head... Maybe it's Dr. Manhattan from Alan Moore's The Watchmen comic book. He just needs a circumscribed dot on his forehead.
Peace.

Hey dood, I tried downloading your Clean Underwear Quest Demo. But one problem. I cant drag or send the file to my Max Drive. Since it has some sort of copy right protection on it. I deleted it, and downloaded it again, then tried extracting the files to the Max Drive second time around, I am going thru trouble trying to play your game man

I cant drag or send the file to my Max Drive. Since it has some sort of copy right protection on it. The file is not protected. Is it possible the little slider on you max drive with the picture of the padlock is in the locked position? That happened to me and I took a while to figure it out. I hate to think of problems getting clean underwear! That's my baby and this new project was meant as a break to hone other skills and return to The Quest fresh. Thanks for trying and good luck with that lock problem. If it is not that, let me know and I'll upload another. Peace.

Yeah, they put that lock in a stupid place. It is right where most of us grab the thing. And the Avatar is Rodak himself! Try to find the old 1960's live-action monster show called The Space Giants. It stars Rodak (my Hero!) and marked the start of the Transformers phenomenon. It starred 3 robots who could change to rockets in a blur of cheap special effects. In fact Goldar, the 50 foot robot hero (Rodak was the villain, but I usually like villains better than heroes anyhow) was the reason I grew my hair long in the first place all those years ago (and why I keep it long to this day). Here he is: Come on, a Giant Robot with long hair! Ya gotta love it. Space Giants was originally released under the name Monsters From Outer Space before they changed the name. Even more originally (in Japan) as Maguma Taishi (PLEASE ignore the anime of the same name) where Goldar was Ambassador Maguma and Rodak was simply Goa. Space Giants is the reason they invented television. I have been told that TV was invented decades earlier, but I say that the inventors had Prophetic Dreams of Space Giants and knew they had to get the media ready for it's glory. I think I have hijacked my own topic here. I'll redeem myself with a list of notable smitables in Videogamedrome to date: At CNN (the Castle News Network): Lou Dobbs Christiane Amanpour Larry King At Congress: Hilary Clinton Joe Lieberman On Capitol Hill: Don Rumsfeld Condoleeza Rice Richard Cheney (I can't call him a on this board) George Bush Wandering: Jack Thompson More suggestions of specific people are welcome. Peace.

Well, I got the first one... Great VFX and I love the PS map. This game looks pretty sweet so far. I will add the video to the Domain at some point and download the other demo sometime when you are not over your daily bandwidth limit.

AArgh!
I forgot how much bandwidth mpegs use.
I have a site I use semi-professionally to help raise money when I need it and that has huge bandwidth allowances... I just am hesitant to mix my business life with my play life.
If I anger the wrong person they could seriously hurt me by attacking that site.
I know that would not happen here, but I use the same name and avatar at all these sites and would be an easy target.
Does Tripod have better Bandwidth limits?
And Bigfoot; I am still unsure if I want my own forum. I sort of like the more communal nature of this one.
Besides, I often miss topics that get buried in other peoples' forums. There are so many and I do not always read through them all. I just feel that things go smoother with fewer forums to check.
If I do request one, I will do so publicly (in the Domain Main forum?).
Thanks for the vote of confidence though.
Peace.

Huh?
You do not have permission to download files?
I lost power last night and could not send my stuff to Doan as planned, but I shall do so tonight and include you on the list for a copy of the demo (same email address as the cow?).
That's weird about the pavilion... did you inquire there to see what might be going on?
Until tonight...
Peace.
