That's right, you can now buy a game made with RPG Maker XP. Anyone who though you couldn't make money with an RPG Maker might want to take a look.
Amaranthia Games is selling the game for $18 US and also offers a free limited time (1 hour) download. I played the game for the free hour and here are my impressions so far:
Name: Aveyond
Price: 18 USD
Type: RPG (make with RPG Maker XP)
Creator: Amanda Fae (Amaranth Games)
Story: An elderly priestess is attacked by a warrior-mage (a daevas) and left for dead. With the last of her energy she summons a young woman to be her successor. Before she can recover enough to explain the situation, the young woman is kidnapped and sold into slavery.
website: Offical Aveyond website
Impressions: The games starts out simple enough with a short quest to find a healer for the elderly woman. This allows you to explore the town and talk to a few people. Then you are sent of a fetch quest to keep you busy for a little while. This is kind of pointless, especially since many people hate fetch quests, but it is pretty simple to do (there are no enemies in the early part of the game).
After a few other events, you get kidnapped and wind up in another town where you start out having a few more tasks to complete. This is your first taste of combat as you must kill some spiders in the attic. The battle system is a little like FF1, with the party (just you at this point) on the left and the enemy on the right. You have only a stick to fight with so all you can do is attack until someone dies (hopefully it's the spider).
After a few more tasks, you are finally free to leave and explore the forest there spiders and wild chickens live. You are warned to stay away from the wild chickens - and for good reason, they are really tough to fight at low levels.
This is about as far as I got, but the write up promises lots of magic and pets to buy, plus the ability to buy a mansion and get married.
What little I played suggests that the game starts off slow but (hopefully) picks up later on. The dialog is well written and you meet some interesting characters along the way. I'm temped to spend the 25 dollars and see where the game is going, so that means this game has already got me hooked. Check it out for yourself and see if you enjoy it as much as I did.
Edit: I just checked out the version of the game on the offical website and it gives you 10 hours of free game play! I'll let you know my impressions of the game once I've played through another 10 hours of the game. I corrected the website links above so you can get the better version.
Go to Big Fish Games if you want an extra hour of game play (remember to save the savefiles before you uninstall one version so you can play the other version).
