It's a bundle containing all 3 MGS games currently out. ;D Being as I enjoyed MGS3, I decided to order it. Unfortunately, the 2nd disc from MGS3 doesn't come with it (had a lot of fun bonus material on it). I should be getting it in a couple days. Might help to keep me occupied until MGS4 comes out. Now, I'll just need to get a PS3.

I got it a couple weeks ago. Been playing them ever since. I ended up beaten both MGS1 and 2. Both great games. Though I have to say that it kind of annoyed me that I had to play as Raiden. Not that I hated him, but it seemed like a step down from the cool, confident Snake (angsty kid with a sword and troubled past. Haven't I seen this before? ). Though I thought the sword was pretty cool (block enemy bullets and slice up soldiers armed with assault rifles ;D). Now I'm back to enjoying MGS3, which got me into the series. Just a couple months until MGS4. And I should look into getting copies of the classic games.

I have a roommate who likes to play RPGs a lot (I hardly have the time anymore). I'll have to recommend MGS:TE to him. I couldn't tell from your first post: is it for PS2 or PS3?

They're not RPGs. However, the MGS games have a deep storyline, much like an RPG. They're more action/adventure-type games with shooter elements (though very late in MGS2, you get a sword, making it sort of a hack-and-slash as well, at least for a short while). I don't know. Does he play RPGs mainly for the story? If so, he'll probably be interested. However, the cutscenes tend to be even longer than in most RPGs. You need a great attention span and patience to fully appreciate and understand the storyline. Also, the Metal Gear games might be hard for some people to get into since they mostly involve stealth. You won't be engaging in head-to-head combat very frequently (unless you get caught by the enemy). They involve a lot of clever sneaking around and trying not to get caught, and running in with guns ablaze will probably get you killed. If he's looking for turn-based combat traditional to most RPGs, you won't find it in these games. However, like I said, if he loves a good, engaging storyline, he might like them. And to answer your question, MGS1 is for PS1 and MGS2 and 3 are for PS2.

I normally don't like shooting games, but I have all three MGS games because I like the story telling. MGS1 and MGS 3 have very well developed stories.
Is this a joke or have you been living under a rock the last 5 years. No one likes Raiden. Raiden has become a joke in the series. There is a scene in MGS 3 where it looks like you have to play the game as Raiden that was put in as a joke. There is also a scene in one of the trailers for MGS 4 that shows Raiden in action that I suspect was put in as a joke (No reviewer has mentioned him being in the game though they might be limited in what they can say about the story at this point).
The stealth requirement of the game actually makes it better then most run and gun games because the levels are designed so you can avoid being seen instead of forcing you to shoot everyone in sight to move to the next level. You can kill everyone in a level but if the alarm goes off, all the dead guards will be replaced so you need to be careful.
I highly recommend the series to anyone who hasn't played it.

[white]I only hope I can play as Raiden in MGS4. It's like Grey Fox all over again. Drool.[/white]

If by under a rock, you mean not into the MGS series in the past 5 years, then you're right. I know that not many people like Raiden. In fact, the only reason he's even a character in the series is because some chick wrote a letter to Kojima claiming that she would not play his MGS games since the main character was "an old guy" and how she wanted a "bishounen (beautiful man)". Kojima wanted to show Snake from a third-person perspective anyway, so I guess he used Raiden to humor that girl.
