Somebody once said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result. Optimal mental health, then, may include adapting your approach if you don't get the result you want.
There is a problem solving technique that involves finding all the ways to cause a problem in order to solve it. Here then is a list of ways to become insane.
1) Leave a hundred decisions unmade, hanging there in your mind.
2) Try to fit way too much into your days.
3) Take on too many unnecessary responsibilities.
4) Damage your brain with too many drugs and alcohol.
5) Isolate yourself from the world.
6) Dwell on the horrible aspects of your life or of the world.
7) Eat poorly and stay up all night.
8) Refuse to accept the things you cannot change.
9) Hang onto the past too tightly.
10) Let fear make your important decisions for you.
Oddly enough, every one of those ways fits me. Does that make me insane? Perhaps I need more ways to actually become insane?
But why would one want to become insane? Well for one thing reality is overrated, and if you don't seem to have a place there the portions of the brain that handle rational thought don't really have any purpose.
I have always thought that if I see ghosts, hear voices, or talk to imaginary friends hey that would be great. But its not really insanity I'm seeking here, rather a means to make the most of my mind so that it makes me happy.
For example, I have this strange tendency to go out of my way for others, especially friends, and I absolutely love to show them things they haven't seen, like games, movies, shows, music, etc. I love that sensation that someone else is seeing this for the first time and being blown away. It could be a reflection of my own desire to appreciate things for the first time over again.
Okay, so if I could edit my own brains harddrive, and delete the memory files of all the great entertainment and experience it all over again, that would be great. So would believing that an imaginary friend is real to mimic this sensation without anyone really being there.
What about the pleasure recepters in the brain? The five senses. Wouldn't it be great if you similate those? There are so many sacrifices we make, just so that we can percieve reality and be aware of what is really happening... what is usually painful agonizing nothingness.
Finally, if you can seperate what you visualize from what you actualize, fantasy from reality, why bother doing anything in reality except what you want to actually be real?
Of course there is always the sensation that you want it to be real and that if you think it is real you will enjoy it more. Here is where the insanity comes in and we trick ourselves by turning off the rational part of our brains.
Well we don't have anything that advanced, but I find it interesting that the difference between a saint and a sinner need only be a perfect imagination. Everything can be simulated and done where it really needs to be played out, in the brain, except for the most basic needs of the body, such as basic food, water, sleep, etc.
I came here only to post those 10 criteria to becoming insane that I found from here ezinearticles.com/?How-To-Become-Insane&id=40856
This thread is really just a joke.
