This is a very odd problem to watch out for.
So I made these arena fighters that run around on random at the fastest possible speed in the arena, and I made a repeating action branch on another nearby event that targets them and applies enemy VFX such as blood spray and fire beam. The fire beam gets twisted around as they move creating a very epic looking battle.
Everything was perfect and I hadn't changed a thing, then all of a sudden when I finally had my warp event take you there the arena fighters would not even show up most of the time, and when they did none of the VFX were applied. Needless to say I was very disappointed and had started taring out my hair trying to pinpoint the problem.
It seemed like one of those internal bugs that just bogs the system down like when you save on the world map and go to reload but the map editor graphics don't show up until you enter and exit something.
So at first I tried checking all my scripts to eliminate the possibility they were all randomly called off. You see their models or whether they even show up is random so you typically see anywhere from 2-6 of them. The same is true for events that make up the audience. I tried reducing the number of events in the area, but it just wasn't helping and I was getting madder and madder because it had all worked so well before.
Well as it turns out a strange problem was being caused by the location where you enter the map. This town is huge and uses the entire map with maxed out object and event placement. There is big chunks of water in the north/south and east/west areas and 4 exits, but the 4 exits are actually only 2 exits that can be reached from either side.
So I had the warp start you out at the north end of town where you had to walk a few steps north to end up at the south side of town, and when you got the arena in the center of town the fighters had resigned. Using quick save and resume at the arena loaded the fighters, but without the VFX and the map editor graphics would not load. This made it very tricky to pinpoint the problem.
But sure enough when I changed the warp into town to start the player off properly at the south end of town you can head anywhere and come to the arena and the fighters and full VFX will be there. This also includes when you come out of shops and other buildings.
I'm not sure why this oddity occurs, but it is something we all should note: that wrapping around the map may cause certain events and operations not to function properly, and that saving and loading on a complex map can result in the map not loading so if you have save points either place them in small rooms or close to warps, because its hard to navigate very far when you can't see any ground or terrain.
