In the game I plan to have two world maps. One is for the islands of Rune and Riven. The second one would be for 4 other continents. I’m hoping to give the player a different experience at each continent.
Rune Island •A small Island mainly made up of farmers. •There are two main villages: Eden and Eagle View. •There is one growing town: Fisherman’s Port. •The island has only traded with Riven Island, until about a year ago when Fisherman’s Port opened up. •There is only one Castle and that is Stoner’s Castle. •The people of the land are humble and poor compared to the other continents but they are content with what they have. •There are a couple of other areas of interest on Rune: A Big Plantation, Twin Dragon Villa and The Tomb of the Sword. •The people are accepting of strangers, but they are wary of their presence and won’t talk much about personal things. •The main mode of transportation is by foot.
Riven Island •The island is mostly disserted do to the fact that many people believe that the island is cursed. •There is one town on the island. (No name at this point). It contains one Church, an abandoned house, and a lone shop. •The Island is basically a wilderness land covered with hills and forests. •There is one huge hill on the island on which Riven’s Temple is located. •The people of Riven Island love to have visitors. The people believe that the land is not cursed and wish more people would move to the island. Unlike the people of Rune, the people of Riven are more accepting of strangers and love to share the history of their land.
Wolf’s Bane (Second world map) •Wolf’s Bane is a very rich land. •The trade routes are made out of brick and take the most direct route to their destination. •The continent is so rich that the main mode of transportation is by hot air balloon. ( only on the island) •There is a small port town named Corral Pier. It is the only port for Wolf Bane. The town is mostly made up of shops. Being an upper class town the Pirate’s ship that you arrive on is not really welcomed. •Then there is the town of Clearwater Valley. The town has one castle, two mansions, and the town center is mostly made up of shops. The main economy of Clearwater is made up of Craft smiths. •There is a second town smaller the Clearwater. (Unnamed) •Lastly there is a bandit camp. There you must find the secret passage in order to enter.
Mandarin Isle •This land is only inhabited by Monks. Religion is the way of life on the Isle. It is so much so that no weapons are allowed on the island. •The Monks have their own village. (Unnamed) There goal in life is to live in harmony with each other and the land. There are bars on the island, you don’t have to pay at the inn to spend the night, and they don’t accept money for items. If you want an item from a monk you must give him another item in return. •There is a volcano on the isle named Mount Buddha. This dangerous are is the only way to get to the Temple of the Tempest. At this temple the Tempest tests to see if you are stronger then your worst weakness.
Twilight Gates •This is a cold, isolated land and it covered in snow and mountains. The only way to get to this land is by airship. The people of the land hate the holder of the Sword of Vengeance. •There are several towns although they are fall apart and the only way to access them is through the dangerous, little traveled mountain pass. •There also might be a Fortress and a Campsite.
Hermit’s Domain •This land has long been forgotten by time and history. So not much is known about its inhabitants. •There is a lone crazy person on the continent that might be able to help you if you can figure out what he is trying to tell you. •There is a ghost town and an abandoned Castle. The Castle might hold the key to entering the Sacred Realm.
Sacred Realm •That is a secret. (Really I have no idea what will be in this land. I just thought the name was cool sounding.)
I have a group of bandits in my game so a made up a code for them to follow.
- Never give up on the group. - Never dishonor the bandit code - Steal only when it will be a benefit to the group. - Flee only when nesscessary and not before inflicting great harm. - The group needs come before your own needs. - In fighting will not be tolerated. - No alcohol before a mission. - "Taking" of women is strictly forbidden. - Traitors will be killed. - Take no hostages. - Leave no witness behind. - Taking of goods for yourself will be dealt with harshly.

I really like your world names, and their details all seem nicely varied and interesting. I agree that Sacred Realm sounds cool, like a creepy other-worldly place or something.
If you get a chance, check out TFR's map editor topic... he has created some stunning maps.

I have seen TFR's maps. They are awesome. I found his map editor guide a while ago. It was a great help. Unfortunately I can't download the new one, because I don't have a way to get it to my PS2. Maybe down the road I will have to invest in one of those devices.

This is quite an interesting game you got going on here. Sorry I didn't reply to it sooner. I've skimmed through it a couple weeks ago, but never got the chance to give any feedback. I agree with everyone else that, while a bit cliched, your plot seems charming enough to make for an interesting game. As for the gameplay concepts (classes and abilities) they seem like they'll make for a fun game.

After some down time with the flu and after reading the Dungeon and Dragons: Dungeon Master's Guide, I realized how bad my game was. To me there seemed to be no really major threats to drive the story on, and little if any interaction with the outside world. So I'm making some major changes.
- Westly is getting a new name and is no longer a scout but a barmaid, who is really an informant.
- Two groups are in a power struggle. One wants to revive an ancient monster in the hopes that it will stop it's enemies, while the other group is trying to stop them believing that the monster will lead the world into total darkness.
- Po is no longer going to be a character. Instead Riven the wolf demon will have a bigger role in the game.
- Chen Zen will not only be a monk. but at one point was a ninja.
- There will also be more character interactions with NPCs. Plus I will be throwing the player right into the action.
The game is still being called Sword of Vengeance, and the main part of the story will focus on finding a way to stop the death of the main character who pulled the Sword of Vengeance from it's resting spot before it destroys her.
Any suggestions on a new name for Westly ( something to do with nature ) and any for the name of the two feuding groups?

I just found this site recently. It's the best site I've found for coming up with names for characters. www.behindthename.com/I went through the English names to JAQ->JU and noted some for you: Ashton Camden Darnell Doug (Douglas) Dylan Elwood Fox Garth George Glenn Gordon Grover Hamil (Hamilton) Haywood Holden

Thanks for the help. The site seems to be very helpful. I thought of looking online for a site that did nothing but names.

I was thinking about making a script that would work with the battle system that would allow the weather to affect the hero characters . I think it would just make the game more life like. Here is what I have so far:
If it was raining it would bring the character's strength down. Cloudy or sunny weather would not have any effect on the characters. Fog would bring accuracy down. And snow would bring agility down.
I was thinking about using the sort branch script and apply ifs to run the script.
I'm also thinking about making a script that would allow outside influences to affect the party. There again using the sort branch option. For example loosing hp by touching a poisonous plant, getting hit by lightening which would lower mp, or by having a thief steal and item or goal from a party member.

Thanks. I think it will make the world feel more realistic. However, this being the biggest sales time in retail it will be awhile before I get to test it out. Well at least I'm able to squeeze some planning time in to my crazy work hours of work.

It's been a long time, but I finally got some time to work on my project.Coming up with items for this game was very hard. Most of the items that I could think of came from other RPGs. So I used my favorite spot to eat at for the items. I came up with these ideas while eating at Outback steakhouse. So the items have a bar theme:
Chips - recover 25% of your hp.
Hot Wings - Recover 50% of your hp.
Cheese Fries - Recover 100% of your hp.
Veggie - Revive with 50% of your hp.
Fruit - Revive with all of your hp.
Soda - Recover 25% of your mp.
Whiskey - Recover all of your mp.
Beer - Recover 50% of your mp.
Chicken soup - cures poison.
Warm Blanket - cures stun.
Frankincense - cures cursed.
Angelsword flower - cures seal.
Zapper - cures sleep.
You can purchases these item in either the cafe or a bar.

Your food items are making me hungy. It's cool seeing someone use original names for items rather than names like "Potion" or "Phoenix Down".

Sorry, I'm more of a Cheese Fries girl!
You don't know how long and hard I thought about those items. I think it was a month and a half before I completed that list.
Thanks! Progress has been slow, but progress is progress.
Now I only need to come up with the magical items, weapons and armor! ;D

I've had a major set back. I was reviewing my map for Rune Island and my outline for my story. That is when it hit me! I'll have the player criss crossing the island. It made no sense to have them going from the north part of the island to the central part of the island, and then to the south part of the island, to the center, and then back to the north part of the island. I have no idea what I was thinking. So I either need to change my world map or my story. Not sure which I'm going to do though. I might even need to remove some characters. EDIT: I had a creative burst about 10:30 pm and was able to work out the problem. In fact I think that it improved the flow of the story. ;D

Don't you love how that works? You revisit something, find some inconsistencies, and as you resolve those the entire story becomes better as a result. The value of revising multiple times cannot be over-emphasized.

After some interruptions I was finally able to get back to work on the game.
I have added 2 temporary members and 1 new member to the party.
Seth who is going to be a temporary member is a long time friend to Terra. He gets a lot of his information about the Seekers (These are magic users who want the Sword of Vengeance) from Terra. So over they years they have developed a strong relationship, but Seth would like more out of the relationship. Terra however doesn’t realize this.
Then there is Kuzo. He is a mercenary who is known all over the world. Legend has it that if you see him you are already dead. He is easily spotted by his red jacket, cold demeanor, and his two swords. He is going to be the second temporary member.
The newest party member is Katzu. He is a pupil of Kuzo. He is very naïve about the world and this and his eagerness tend to end up getting him into trouble. No one really knows why Kuzo took Katzu on as his pupil. Some say he is being paid to toughen Katsu up.
Character Abilities
