All right - thought organization time.
Now that A Light in the Sky is finished and TFR is producing professional-grade stuff, I really want to get back into RPGM2. My current open project is SS2, which I'm in the process of playing through again just to re-familiarize myself with it. Then I get to go through the torturous process of figuring out what I was doing before I stopped.
For those who are unaware, the Chronicle Series is a large-scale fantasy story covering centuries of events, and goes as follows:
Spirit Saga
Spirit Saga II: The Yamikon Chronicle
The Genesis Chronicle
The Kuromei Chronicle
Spirit Saga III: The Final Chronicle
SS2 and SS3 are the only ones that are unfinished. Even though SS2 fills in a lot of intermediary story, and the Final Chronicle will obviously be the ending, I feel like the story doesn't make much sense to anyone whose played more than one of the games. So, I've come up with a new idea.
Just for the record, I plan to finish both SS2 and SS3 on RPGM2. I am making this thread in part to say that I'm working on SS2 again. However, I want to do something alongside of these projects. This will be something for anyone who doesn't want to sit through GC and KC to get the story (since both games are pretty crappy in terms of overall quality).
I want to make a deluxe version of the Chronicle Series for RPGMXP. It will have multiple modes, but one of them will be "Story Mode" in which you play out condensed versions of the games (as well as other parts that are not in the games, namely the Great War). This mode will likely not have any "extras" to it, but just be a way to play out the story in chapter format. Much of the filler stuff will be cut, and only the parts that have story relevance will be involved.
For instance, you'd start by seeing some background in a prologue cutscene, then play as Gene trying to collect the amulets. After defeating the final boss of SS2 you'd go to the next chapter and play as Genesis in the Great War. After that you'd play as Thursday and do the important parts of GC. Then Skyal and the important parts of KC. Then the main character of SS3 and play the ending.
In addition, there will be a "Thursday Festival" mode where you play various minigames and stuff to collect orbs, which unlock extra crap. There would probably be other modes, too.
I choose XP because anyone can play it and it has a lot of customizability. It will also be very easy to create better versions of dungeons and environments from the originals.
All that said, I don't expect to work on this very much yet. This is a side project, and the original SS2 and SS3 will likely come first. I have a lot of stuff to do, so all of this will take a long time. I don't expect anything to be finished for a while. However, I think this is an interesting way to handle the story, since the finished games are old and very amateurish, and even SS2 is lacking in departments.
So, when I get some free time, I'll be working on SS2 on RPGM2, and doing a few things here and there for my condensed chronicles project on XP. Any legitimate updates will be posted whenever/if ever they occur.
Comments welcome.
