Well, it's now Christmas Eve, the contest is about 80% over, and this is what we have so far:
Total Clicks for November and December: 104 Total Clicks since December 1: 33 Total Revenue Generated: $11.83
Total Reviews: 1
So the good news is that Will is currently projected to make about $65 when you add in the $50 that I myself had planned on throwing in. The bad news is that the contest thus far has been an almost complete disaster. Don't worry, I'm not upset at all. I mean, it's unfortunate that we will not get the content that I had hoped for in expanding the site to better display Hosted Material with links to the message board and reviews, but other than that, this contest was for you guys. I thought it was a good idea to give you all a chance to make some easy money and at the same time give fellow members the game reviews they deserve. If you decide not to take this opportunity, that is entirely up to you and really doesn't hurt me at all. Actually, it's less checks and postage for me to worry about, so it makes it easier on me.
So yeah, so far, doesn't look like there's much interest in this. Maybe you've all been busy getting ready for Christmas; if so, I completely understand. Maybe there will be a sudden explosion in reviews in the week to come, but unfortunately, there have not been many ad clicks this month (I do appreciate those who have been doing it), and everyone may end up making like $5. Sorry, but there's nothing more I can do. Good luck to those who decide to try this thing out.

Are you going to extend the deadline? I wouldn't feel right taking $50 from you just for writing one review.

I've been being selfish.
I have been spending as much of my play time as possible trying to finish a game.
But I can help get things moving again by writing up a review of the only full game here I beat.
Tetris.
At least I thought I could.
I won Jugem's contest (and Bigfoot placed second) so I (or he) would make a good reviewer for it... but it is not hosted here or listed in the contest forum!
Was this an oversight?
I'll be willing to review it anyhow and post the review somewhere else (I said I'd donate any contest money back to the site anyhow so posting it elsewhere may be less confusing to those who can use the money more than I).
I'd have posted this in the "Get your game listed in the contest" thread, but it's not my game!
Hippy Holydaze!

I have been kind of procrastinating on a review, I thought of reviewing The Farm Life, but Will already has reviewed it, and I even worked on it a little, so I think it wouldn't be fair to review a game that has already been reviewed and that I did some work for, it could be considered biased. I will try and choose a game to review soon. There is an on going trend where it seems that all of us have barely been working on RPGM2 (I work on it less than I could be.) and this was a great effort to get things back moving. I say we all should maybe set release dates for our games, and try and show off our work again. Anything helps, I will work on RPGM2 tomorrow (I will try today but its Christmas.) I hope this maybe picks up soon. Happy Holidays to everyone as well!

Will: I may extend the deadline if interest in it picks up and reviews start to come in. Likewise, if people give me feedback saying they are in the process of playing games but feel short on time, I will be more than happy to extend the deadline. As for you feeling bad, you really shouldn't, because you took it upon yourself to be the first to participate in this, and if you're the only one, so be it. Rodak: I really would say that you are one of the least selfish of all. I felt bad making this post because I know some members, yourself especially included, have been busy providing services for other members that may be interfering with time that you might normally spend playing games. I would appreciate reviews, but don't feel pressured to give them if you are busy doing other things. This thread is mainly directed at those who are spending dozens of hours playing the latest video games and won't even take a few hours to play some member games. There is a topic in the Contest Forum for unlisted games. If a game meets the contest criteria but is not listed, feel free to play it anyways, and in your review, just say where you got it so that other people may play it, too. I have listed all of the games that are on the site, but I do not host games on the Domain website unless people explicitly give me permission to do so, in order to avoid any potential conflict. Bigfoot: I would love to see a review of yours on the Farm Life. The more reviews that there are for a game, the better. This is a rather informal contest, and the fact that you helped on the game means nothing to me. The fact is, many of us have helped in some aspect of the creation of many Domain member games, and in some ways, we will be biased anyways because we will not want to hurt a Domain member's feelings. So write the review, I see no reason not to. My only suggestion is to perhaps mention in your review what area you have worked on. For example, something like this, "In the area of Graphics, there are many custom VFX objects. I helped create these, and so I will not give my opinion of their appearance, but I find that the way Doyleman integrated them with the other objects was seamless, making them appear no different than the other in-game objects." That's a simple example, just be honest, that's all. Say exactly what you think about a game, that's all I'm asking for; it doesn't matter if you have a hand in creating it. Smurf: I'm glad to hear that you're excited to start playing these games. And seriously, you and Rodak both need to just take this money. It's not like it's enough to buy a new car or anything, and if you "donate it back to the site", it will just be used for another contest, anyways. If you're clicking some ads occasionally, there is no reason to feel bad about getting the reward for doing so. All in all, this was a sort of "test post" to see if anyone was actually still interested in this, and also a reminder to everyone that this contest is still going on. I'm glad to hear that some of you are interested, and I encourage you to get playing!

I've finally figured out how to use my Max Drive so now I can get to actually playing and reviewing these games. So far I've played both "Crown of Order" (not sure which version though I suspect that its the first (demo ends after the trap in which you're required to find the gold coin) and "Leon the Hero"; the gaming has been great. Playing these games has sparked quite the inspiration. As for any rewards, playing the games themselves is quite enough (reviewing is somewhat a hobby of mine).

I'll be willing to review it anyhow Yes, this was an oversight. Doan, feel free to host the game on your site. I only bothered submitting it to the Pavilion, as I was lazy. And Rodak, I'd love to read any review of this game that you come up with. Heck, maybe I'll write some reviews for some games...

Peace.

I didn't have enough time to play games in December unfortunately because of family business. I can put some hours in now that it's time for the new year. Personally, I don't think it was a good time for the contest though, but don't count all your eggs until you lay 'em.

I'm really glad to hear that everyone is getting interested in this contest. I will be happy to extend the deadline as long as I keep receiving reviews. Jugem, I will get your Tetris game up on the site as soon as I get back to Columbus next week. For now, I have created a topic for it in the Contest Forum.

I probably would do some too but I still can't find my max drive well, i basically finished my second demo and realized i misplaced mine too. that's gotta be about the fourth time since the summer. so it looks like i may have to wait until i find it again to play games and upload my demo, but i guess that also gives me a chance to tweak some mistakes i may have left in the first place... stupid max drive always giving me problems... -the smurf

Well, it's now Christmas Eve, the contest is about 80% over, and this is what we have so far: Total Clicks for November and December: 104 Total Clicks since December 1: 33 Total Revenue Generated: $11.83 Total Reviews: 1 I made that post at the top of this thread. Since then, you guys have responded very well, and this is the updated data: Total Clicks since Dec. 24: 24 Total Revenue Generated since Dec. 24: $1.70 Total Reviews since Dec. 24: 2 It also looks as if others are trying to find their max drives and review some games, too. I would like to thank all of you for stepping up and accepting my challenge to review games and generate contest revenue. As long as this continues, I will be happy to continue the contest through January. If interest wavers, again, however, I could end it at any time. So please keep playing those games, posting your opinions, and clicking ads to get yourselves some prize money for me to send you. Here is where it currently stands: Total generated from ads: $13.53 + $50 from me: $63.53 Total Reviews: 3 This means that Will, BloodKnight, and Jugem are each in line to receive $21.17 if the contest ended today. Let's keep those clicks and reviews rolling in so that everyone can make a little money, and we can all be happy to finally get a few reviews on our games. By the way, I have been very happy with the reviews that I have seen so far. They have been very thorough and give a great picture of your opinion of the game that was played.

I hope that your perception of wavering interest is lenient, because while I'm currently playing Kuromei chronicle, I played it in short bursts, because of various reasons, including a pavilion contest that I've decided to participate in.

You had to go and ruin my empty threat . I'm just kidding... I was mostly trying to be sure that people would continue playing and reviewing games, and what you're doing is just fine. I was trying to discourage people from saying, "Well, now that the contest is extended until February, I'll wait until a week before that to start playing games." I know from experience that when we do that, it ends up not getting done. So am I going to end the contest suddenly and without warning? No. Did I want everyone to believe that? Kind of, but mainly just to try to help everyone avoid procrastination.

You know, writing reviews is very tiresome. It takes a bit of time to recover from one before writing the next.

Doan, would you mind locking irrelevant threads every once in a while (namely, the two previous Contest threads in this Forum)? I had the pleasure of reading through all four threads to find out everything.
Though I don't qualify to reap the rewards of this Contest, I would certainly like to show my support to the Domain. (That, and playing games is easier than making them.) It's everyone here that I'm going to be getting advice from once I have the time to settle down and start my own, and seeing what's been done with the RPG Maker II software seems like the best place to start.
Ahem, I nearly went off-topic. Should I place reviews in the Contest Forum threads as well (though I do not qualify for the "Contest" aspect), or should I have poked around beyond these four threads for a more standardized location to review?

Should I place reviews in the Contest Forum threads as well (though I do not qualify for the "Contest" aspect), or should I have poked around beyond these four threads for a more standardized location to review? I'm pretty sure that the forums of the game creators would be a great place to comment on their games. If, like me, they still haven't gotten one, use the threads they used in the Creative Development Forum. That's how I'd do it. It's great that you want to play other's games. It's a fantastic way to learn. Peace.

Actually, although the forums of the creators are a great place to give informal feedback, I would love for all formal (in a loose sense of the word "formal") reviews to go in the Contest forum. This will make my job easier when I later try to link the site's game listing to its game review here on the Domain.
As for writing reviews when you are not "qualified", that is just fine, and your contributions are much appreciated. And to rpglover88: you certainly do meet the requirements. It's up to you to decide whether you have time or not, but I feel like if you have time to make 73 posts in 2 weeks, then you could probably fit in 3 or 4 hours a week to play one game and review it. Of course, it's completely up to you, but that's my 2 cents.
As for locking topics, I'm sorry you went through a few before (not) finding what you were looking for. The thing is, since I started the Domain, I have tried to only lock topics if the situation demanded it. In things like the Forum Rules, I want those posts to stay clean and free of replies, so they are locked. The only other topics that I lock are ones that get out of hand. I don't like the idea of locking "dead" topics because that just increases my work and makes later replies to old topics impossible. I'm not a dictator here... if you checked the Contest Rules and wanted a clarification on something, replying to that post with a question to me would have been just fine, even if it had been answered in some post a month ago that fell a bit down the page. I appreciate you trying to find your answer first, but rules like that mainly apply to the RPGM2 Technical Help forum so that I don't get the same "What's a variable?" post 200 times like what happened at the Agetec forums.
