I haven't touched RPGM2 in years. I haven't updated the website in a year. I haven't written a lick of code for a new message board, and I haven't done much to administer this one. I find myself coming to this board a few times a week just to read all of the new posts out of some strange sense of duty that I can't explain, even though I no longer feel that I get much out of the board myself.
RPGM2 is beginning to fade. It was never exceedingly popular to begin with, for various reasons, and I'm honored that many of those who did appreciate it and use it ended up here. The truth that no one seems to want to face, however, is that none of us early members even use it anymore.
My life is beginning to get pretty busy between grad school, programming jobs, and programming projects of my own, and I think it's time for me to end the charade that is my involvement in this site. I know you all appreciate me; I'm not looking for you to beg me to stay. If someone would like to take on the management of the message board, I would be happy to help with a transition. The images could easily be moved to photobucket. The video and audio files that I host can be uploaded to YouTube. The game submissions can be sent to the Pavilion or the Mag. The FAQs and guides can be put up on the rpgmmag wiki or probably even submitted directly to one of the "big 2" sites.
In short, I am really no longer needed here, and the little-utilized site doanthenado.com isn't, either. I do realize that this message board has become a nice hang out, and I would not consider shutting it down, but I am no longer interested in administering it. It is perfectly capable of surviving independent of my site, and if anyone is interested in taking over, reply here.
doanthenado.com will cease to exist by the end of October, when my domain renewal comes up again. Whoever wants to keep this going will need to contact me in advance of that time so that we can get everything migrated to appropriate alternatives.
It has been a great few years running the domain, and I have enjoyed it just as much as the rest of you. For me, however, it is time to move on. Even after leaving, I'm sure I'll pop in occasionally to say hello, so this isn't really a goodbye or anything.
At any rate, thanks to all of you for your contributions and your friendship.

You'll be back. I think the focus on RPGM2 here is what limits the vitality of the forum. The others have large sections devoted to User Art and cover all the legal RPG Makers without focusing on any one of them too much. Just my advice for the next lucky administrator... Doan; Peace and Good Luck!

Sorry to hear you're shutting down DoantheNado.com, but it is true that the site isn't being utilized that much anymore. I'd love to help keep this forum going, but I don't have much time myself anymore.
Since some members have moved onto non-RPG makers like Dark Basic and Game Maker, perhaps the future moderator can make this a forum for all kinds of game design. Personally, I'd love to make some simple Flash games to promote my web comic like some professional sites do. I have Flash, a book on Flash game design, and the artistic skill. I just need to motivate myself to do it. It would be great to have a site like this where I can discuss game concepts, show work-in-progress demos and get some feedback.
I hope the friendships we made here can continue through the upheaval as the site is put under new management.

Wow hmm i don't know what to say. I'm not gunna beg you to stay and I realized this would happen some day. I've just met a lot of cool people here and it'll be hard to see it go. But there's enough of you that I'll stay in contact with that I'm not too worried. *sigh*

This site has helped me a long ways. I want to create video games for a living eventually, Most of you guys are inspirations but this is the type of thing that will happen. I wish you good luck in the future ahead and hope to see this site go up elsewhere, and possibly if an RPGM4 comes out and they combine the best of both RPGM 2 & 3 whoever actually carries on this site will be more than happy to keep a thriveing comunity for the future game makers of the world, or country, or however far this site goes.

This is quite a bummer to hear, but its fully understandable. I've been here for almost three years now, and I remember when I first came here. I have to thank you alot Doan, because if it wasn't for your hospitality I wouldn't have gotten my jumpstart in the community, nor would have I made all these friendships here. I also have to apoligize to you for my recent behavior. It was all meant for a laugh, but I realize that it was an ass move on my part.
As for RPGM2 fadin.... Nah, I have been working on it alot lately and am about half way done with Fallout. Plus I am more than sure Rodak and Nathan will have another project or two out. RPGM2 has even gotten some wierd attention at the pavilion since many RPGM3 developers are looking for a deeper challenge. As for when I decide to quit it? I make my games for my own pleasure so this won't effect that much. I'll probably use it until I find a better outlet, but even then.
Anyways Doan, I doubt we will stay in contact outside of here, so if this community can decide upon a new king, I hope you decide to visit often.
As for grad school and your programming gigs, all I have to say is knock 'em dead champ!

I have the time to take management of this board, but I cant afford a domain name (yet....). I'd be happy to set you up here. You really wouldn't need a domain name at all just to run this message board. The only thing here that is hosted on my site are the forum banners, and those could be moved to Photobucket. The other thing is the chat, which is a little more of a big deal. That requires a site which can run cgi scripts, but I'm sure someone hear would be willing to host it, as it doesn't take up too many resources.

[white]Well, I can honestly say, this sucks, but as all things in life, it happens. Best of luck Doan. At least the board will still be here. I'd more than happy to help out with admin duties (once I get my comp running again). I still come to check the boards almost daily, even though I don't always log in. Its good to know the board will remain, there's simply too much hard learned information on RPGM2 here to loose it all.
I can afford a cheap domain like $20 - $40 bucks a year, if that's even plausible. maybe even $50 - $100 if I had too, this is of course, assuming a domain name would be needed. Other than for file hosting and an 'official' name, I don't see the real need for one.[/white]

Hopefully, someone else can take care of this place now, but I'm really sad to see you go. You've been a great admin, leader, and friend. We'll all miss you.

Expect to pay extra for a domain name with the cheaper sites. The better sites cost 5-6 dollars /month (domain name included). You'll need to shop around for the best deals. I bookmarked the forum, so a host really wouldn't affect me. However, when I did need to find the forum, it was easier to remember "DoantheNado.com" then "doansdomain.proboards27.com" I wonder if some of the new members could explain how they found this board. If they linked directly here from somewhere else, then a host really wouldn't be necessary.

[white]Send me a PM Doan to let me know how much you are currently paying and if its possible to renew the site through whom-ever is suppling the space now, only with a different client paying the bill. I would prefer to keep it as www.Doanthenado.com, since that's what is it know as to the rest of the community. Changing it at this point would just confuse people.[/white]

Perhaps instead of using www.doanthenado.com/ , we could set up a way to post our FAQs and Files on the message boards in a special forum within doansdomain.proboards27.com/ (sort of like/almost exactly how the Pavilion has their games set-up). I'm no computer wiz, so I can't help programming such a thing, but that would at least salvage all the important things from your site onto the forums before your site goes away (and then they'd be preserved on the forums). You could of course make a topic with your game info, pics, vids, etc. too, Doan, so that that isn't lost either (heck, you could even sticky it so it stays at the top - none of us would mind). Otherwise, I think we've all gained good/better judgement and understanding of maintaining healthy relations from you, and I think there are numerous good candidates to fill your spot as Chief Moderator (even though I'm not one of them ). Also, have you mentioned this to Ves? I know I haven't seen him post much for the past 4 or 5 months. So, is he also going to quit being Chief Moderator? And, of course I share everyone's sentiments and hope you pop in every once in a while. Good luck in life Doan! Thank you for everything you've done for me! We'll miss you dearly.

I would prefer to keep it as www.Doanthenado.com, since that's what is it know as to the rest of the community. Changing it at this point would just confuse people.[/white] If there's enough interest, I'd be perfectly happy to pay for one more year of hosting to give some time for transitioning. I was just under the impression that not many people were using doanthenado.com, and that it was chiefly being used for hosting, which could be done elsewhere. I do appreciate the offer, though. This isn't really possible. The message board does not offer hosting (except for a fee), so the only solution would be what i mentioned, to have the FAQs and files on the RPGMMag Wiki or somewhere else on the Pav or RPGMMag site. That kind of feels pointless to me, since the game will not be made in its present form, anyways. I do appreciate the offer, though. Well thank you, I'm glad that I have been a positive influence on the community. Once a few more people volunteer to be the admin, I will create a post about it to ensure that everyone agrees with the choice(s). I have not talked to Ves about it. Actually, it has been some time since I have seen him online, so I don't know anything about what's going on with him. When I see him on next, I will talk to him to see what his status is. I will certainly pop in occasionally, don't worry about that! Thanks for the well-wishes.

[white]Changing or removing "Doanthenado" would be silly, its a well known site, even if not we visited anymore. Besides, no one ever said the site had to be exclusively for RPG maker games. We've developed a tight-nit community (those of us who still come here anyway and there is no reason to change what we've all come to know. Doanthenado - a site for game lovers, mathmaticians, chemists, programmers, artists, thinkers, and geeks of all ages.[/white]

Wow, I JUST saw this. wow.
Hard to believe you're leaving, Doan.
I really hope you and everyone else here decides to submit your material to the mag, pav, or both. it'd be terrible for everything here to just dissapear forever. I know everyone here is also welcome to go to the mag or pav, regardless of past problems.
One thing I'd like to suggest, is to offer an archive download before this place closes. make everything available for download by the community. all the forum content, all the pages, every single thing. people have a lot of memories here, and it'd be a great way to preserve them for years to come.
