Okay so i've decided to make a practice games instead of diving head first into my 1st epic (The Blood War), the title IS........(drumroll)...........(wait for it).........................................(waaaiit for it)......... Mute and The Journey to The Porcelain Throne!!! Basically it's a comedy type of game (or at least i'll try to be funny), where i take cliches and run with them, over exaggerate them or put some kind of funny interesting twist on them.
The story follows Mute, some poor (mute, as in he can't talk and is CONSTANTLY having words put in his mouth), kid who gets mistaken for the strong silent legendary hero, while on the way to the bathroom and gets sucked into a huge quest to save his kingdom. The poor guy is constantly getting volunteered to rescue people and battle monsters against his will, when all he'd really like to do is just relieve himself and get the hell away from all the crackpot weirdos and idiots that inhabit his world. His companions who he really in all honesty can not stand, but can never seem to get away from include Mary the dim-witted pretty girl next door who pulled him into this mess to begin with and is always making the situation worse by getting caught, lost, robbed etc. Job the incompetent magician, whose spells always fail when they are most needed and then backfire at the most inappropriate times, and Captain Flargus and his crew of flamboyant homosexual pirates, all who endlessly hit on poor Mute.
So what do you guys think? I don't know how it'll turn out but i think i'll have some fun making it, oh and sorry if i shouldn't have made this a second topic.

This sounds like a really fun game. I love the first sentence of your second paragraph. Read that a few times, and there is no doubt that this game will be interesting.

lol This games sounds hilarious. Even if the gameplay isn't all that hot, I'd definitely still play it for the story.

Yes, go for it. (But perhaps consider looking for a different name than Job.) Oh, and since this is a new game it should be a new topic. Done well, you have.

Man...
I NEED To find time to FINISH The Clean Underwear Quest before all my Poop Jokes get used!
So...
Does Mute get to Poop in the end? (NO "Out of the end" Puns, either!)
Great Idea making a small effort first, to learn the system!
I wish I thought of it when I first got RPGM2.
Be seeing you...
Peace.

Oh, and since this is a new game it should be a new topic. I don't really get what you're saying here. This is a new topic, isn't it?

I don't really get what you're saying here. This is a new topic, isn't it? Yeah in my initial post i apologized in case i shouldn't have opened a new thread for this because at the time i was debating whether to add this to my other topic or make it a new one. Anyway I'm finding this game a bit harder to work on mainly because i only came up with it about a week ago, where as the Blood War I've had fairly well planned for like 5 years and small portion already created in RPGM1. I've been looking at lists of cliches and trying to work as many as i can into it while making it funny and interesting, for example the pirate captain wears an eye-patch despite having perfectly fine vision in both eyes, so his depth perception is off and sometimes that causes problems and wacky hijinks ensue! Also 8-bit theatre (nuklearpower.com) is a great inspiration for this, which i'm now thinking i will make a 2-parter, the first one will be probably between 5-10 hours and the second one more like 20, i hope anyway we'll have to see. (how many gameplay hours can generally be squeezed out of a single game file?) Anyway i'm glad you guys like the idea if anyone has any suggestions i'd love to hear them, i'll keep you guys updated on my progress. And hopefully i'll be getting a max drive soon so i can't wait to check out what you guys have done because i've seen some amazing videos on youtube.

Alright so the progress is slow, real slow. I had a small file with a few things on it but it got corrupted, and i had to delete it, not really a problem just alittle set back. I'm slowly putting a story together but it's gonna take awhile. Right now i'm really trying to come up with a battle system, i've been thinking of incorporating something similar to the turn-based type of thing that was in FFX, but at the same time a want to make it strategic, but simple too, like chess or something. I don't know i've been thinking of making a magic or combo system nothing to complicated, but kinda like a rock, paper, scissors type thing based off of like colors, elements or like music key/notes or something. I'm not sure this is still mostly brainstorming right now.

How many times have we heard that said before? Though, I am one to talk. Anyway, it sounds interesting. I like your ideas for the battle system. Just don't get too bogged down in coming up with a concept that you end up creating a battle system far too complicated for you to make. On an unrelated topic, I started playing Zelda: Wind Waker again. There's one pirate in the lot that just seems to stand out as 'gay' to me (the one guarding Tetra's cabin in the beginning) and it reminded me of this game. Just wanted to let you know that there's some of us that are looking forward to this game.

Yes, most definitely. How's the progress going? Do you have any questions of any sort - I'm talking aspects of game design like balancing stuff, making the gameplay things fun, etc., or technical issues like getting things to work right or how to plan things so that you'll run into less problems, or all sorts of stuff to getting sounds to sound good/adding short custom tunes for to (of course, you knew it was coming didn't ya) getting a custom World Map by the Final Rune or brilliant and amazing custom Visual Effects beyond beliefs by Bigfoot, Damien/RealityBites, Rodak, and oh poop I hope I didn't miss anybody!!! (I've been gone a month and am fairly out of the RPGM2 loop, but I do want to get back into it). I'm a sound guy and one of many technical guys. I specialize most in the DBS, followed by custom music. I'm happy to help. Gl. You're game sounds so very cool and funny and potentially funny, so I want to see at least one demo. How thing's in life allowing you to work on RPGM2 and visit the Domain? Also, what other forums do you frequent? Also, planning your game out on paper/microsoftword can help SOOOOO MUUUUUCCCCHHHH - not just because you can get feedback from one person whom could see the actual full script (as opposed to mere bits and pieces) to help you to significantly improve it,... but you can not only yourself edit the script, he/she can help you to do a much better job (depends on person of course - read around forums and see who you want to ask)(don't worry - we're all very polite, you're still in the throne making the calls). And furthermore, on top of that you can also edit the unnecessary, wasteful stuff in what would otherwise have been your world and gameplay designs since village G, dungeon R, and continent D are no longer needed... Imagine all the lengthy, sometimes difficult things on RPGM2, how much efficiently you'd make your cutscenes and some other stuff, how much time you saved total, and how much better your game ended up in the end... Gl, kid. Me puttin' time into this post should say somethin' 'bout my interest in your game.

Progress, well it wasn't looking to good there for awhile, it's all been mostly brainstorming. I don't know why, but coming up with this story is a real challenge, maybe because i play significantly less games now, or maybe because i never came up with a funny story type of game. Also i think it has to do with, now that i understand RPGM2 alot better, the vast potential. When i came up the Blood War, it was mostly just a few random ideas and using them and the limitations of RPGM1 that helped me, atleast conceptually, compose it.
Now in all honesty, i practically scrapped the idea of this game, not intentionally, it was more like a snowball effect. I'd sit down with RPGM2 and realize i can't really make or do much because i don't have enough of a concept down, so then i'd try to write but it just wouldn't come to me, and i slowly just kept putting it off. I visited here less and less and about 2 weeks i pretty much forgot about it the game sadly.
But your feedback really means alot to me, and i'm not gonna give up on it, ......yet anyway. I really appreciate the interest and help everyone, and Poop i will begin to actually write a script very soon, i just need to find some inspiration, and i will request help from anyone one of you when i need it, because i'm sure i will. I will not rest until i have demo at the least, it's aways off to be sure, but i will try my best to make it happen, I'll keep you all updated

Good news! I've had a sudden and wonderful burst of creative energy. About a week ago all these idea's just came flowing out of nowhere and i began putting them together and things are looking good. Now all of this is just on paper at the moment, but i have roughly the whole game planned out. It's going to take place over the course of 3 days, each day divided into 3 chapters and each chapter consisting of about 4 parts, this may sound compitcated or confusing but its not. And actually breaking it down in this fashion really helped me mold the progression, and i think it will make working on the game itself much easier, i'm considering making it in an episodic way, in parts (possibly releasing each day individually).
Anyway i'll give you a few details about what i've come up with, first of all this game is going to be VERY straight forward, no world map either. There will be no significant backtracking, because each chapter throws you into a new isolated location with certain objectives to complete before moving on to the next area. The game will be loaded with extras and side missions, and there will be no random battles, but there will be alot of bosses and they will be difficult. Battle system wise i want to make it simple but tough, i want to force the players to strategize, plan, predict and think. Also there will be puzzles, lots, dungeons will be similiar to Zelda games. Also, this game does have a slightly serious side, if this were a TV show, i'd like to compare it more to say Arrested Development then i would to say Family Guy or Aqua Teen. Each day will be surprisingly different from the previous although there will be recurring elements. There will be a variety of missions, stealth, race/getaway, pirate ship battles, airship battles, tactical-strategy based ones too, I am going to try to create some minigames as well. I'm going to attempt to spoof classic gaming moments, (for example the Opera scene from FFVI), places, events and characters. And more, but i can't really think of much else at the moment, i'll keep you all updated on progress, and i might become really annoying soon too, posting and asking about scripts and things. Anyway also if anyone has any thoughts or ideas, or things they'd like to see made fun of or spoofed in the game let me know

"You spoony bard!"
Nah, I don't really care, but I think that's a classic moment in Final Fantasy (FFIV japan/FF2 U.S.). Just wanted to say: sounds good, don't plan too much/ask yourself how it improves the game before making it (or why should it be added - same difference), and don't ever be afraid to ask for help. See ya!
