Yes. The trouble is, deciding what to enter. At least the game contest has a late enough deadline, to give me enough time to create something.
I'm more concerned about the contest at the Mag, though. I want to create something for it, but have a heck of a time getting any work done. Mostly because I can't figure out what crazy project to stick with.

I am seriously thinking about entering the Pav's contest. I think it was funny that Valk was so excited that he broke down and actually posted the contest a few hours before 10-28. That's certainly forgiveable though. I will not be rushing my current project to be able to finish it and enter it into the 3rd part of the contest. I just don't think I would do as well if I did that. One thing I am thinking of doing is submitting a game for that "We Built This City..." contest, and if I get that done in time, I just might try to whip something up for that other contest, too. I think finishing something smaller than the epic I have in mind for my game will help to motivate me and make me realize that it is possible to finish a game. Let's just hope I don't develop "Draygone Syndrome" , Doan the Nado

I know, it's too bad that open-ended game one is too early for me. They'll be others I can enter my games for later though too, at least.

Let's just hope I don't develop "Draygone Syndrome" Heh, that's why I probably won't enter either of the first two contests. The second one is really interesting, and could lead to some great game. I can imagine the music getting on Valk's nerves after awhile though. Probably need to come up with a lot of variations of that song. I'll probably just focus on Vanished Nights, and hope that I get it done by the third contest deadline. I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish it in time though. Like Doan, I don't want to rush it if it means poorer quality. But it will probably keep me up later at night working on it.

Actually, so far I seem to be doing a good enough job sticking with my current projects. I'm just having trouble working on them. Getting too distracted by Paper Mario 2.

Sorry, Dray, I didn't mean that as an insult, just a joke. I figured that you always make little jokes like that about yourself, so I didn't think you would mind if I chimed in.
Sorry if I offended,

so the end date for #3 is too soon for some people? I figured the end of april would be enough, seeing how that gives people winter break and spring break to work on the games. plus, #3 is open to any submissions, even old games for RPGM1. it doesnt even have to be a game, can be a movie even. just has to be done on RPGM1 or 2. thats pretty much the only guideline. by the way, I've updated the rules for all the contests: p081.ezboard.com/frpgmakerpavilionboardfrm309what would be a better end date? I am flexible on this. also if people need to send me their memory cards to enter, thats fine. just would have to be postmarked by the end date.

welcome valk. the problem (for me) is that even though winter and spring break exist, they mean nothing to me, as work doesnt close for them. i dont think april is an unreasonable time though, as it makes people not procrastinate if they want to put out a good game.

Six months is a nice chunk of time, however, I know it's not enough time for me. I'd probably need an additional three months to finish my game. That's just an estimate of course, and maybe it won't take so long. Or it might take even longer. I'm not saying you should extend the deadline to suit my needs, but you did ask what a better end date would be.

Deadline sounds good to me. I just hope I can work on it more frequently than I did Something Stupid IX.

Progress is coming along great now that I finally find myself wanting to complete my game. Considering the enormous nothing I do during the holidays I might get finished well before the deadline. Hopefully I'll finish with enough time to try the insanity contest. I cut-and-pasted the script for the song into MSword . . . . . . its 200 pages . I got it down to 78 pages by adjusting the font and making four columns, but it's still alot of work . Valk suggested I just use the chorus only, but I imagine that would get old pretty fast. I was thinking of maybe using the chorus as an intro into events, or as a singal for completion of an event and then have no music at all in the game. I'm not sure yet what I'll do, but I'm positive either way hearing the same trck over and over and over and over and over . . . will get old pretty fast.

remember that the game itself has to be based on the song as well.

I've been thinking about entering the second contest, and I've spent a bit of time over the last week brainstorming ideas for it. I think I've come up with a pretty good idea for a game based on that song. Can't give any details, but it looks like I'll probably work on something for that contest, seeing as how Vanished Nights will almost definitely not be ready for the third contest's deadline.

I sure hope you do. I plan on entering, and Valk was thinking I would be the only one. It would be great to have some spirited competition.

I think the second contest is kinda stupid (i'm entitled to my opinion aren't I?) I'm going for the generic 3rd contest, I hope to make the deadline anyway. Actually you guys are what have kept me going on my game...I had stopped a long while ago., and then once I got my network adaptor and put it online, you guys got me going again ty ;D

Yeah, I agree on the second contest. It's stupid, but it's fun 'cause it's something others than just 'best this' or 'best that,' so I'm glad it's there. Fortunately a lot of people aren't making rpgs.

I don't think the second contest is "stupid", but rather a way to get your creative juices flowing. Unfortunately, I just don't think I want to start up another project while I'm working on Vanished Nights. I want to finish that first, and possibly have that ready for one of Doan's contests. Heck, if I spend enough time on it, maybe, just maybe I can get it out by the third contest's deadline (but that's pushing it). Anyway, I might as well post the ideas I had for that game. Maybe someone will find them useful, or maybe someone will even want to take up this project. You start off at home, watching a rock concert on tv. You feel the excitement, and decide that you would like to become a rock star. You know rock and roll is a big part of the underground culture of the small city you're living in, and dream of a day where you could bring rock and roll to a mainstream audience. But to be a rock star, you're going to need a guitar. And a band (drummer, keyboard player, maybe another guitarist). And you need to be heard. But hey, you notice a poster advertising auditions for bands/solo artists. Auditions take place in one week (or some similar short period of time). So first things first. You need to make money so you can buy a guitar. By walking around the city, you'll find various places with help wanted signs. Walk in to one of those places, and you can take on the job. The jobs are like arcade-style minigames, where you try to go for high scores (or in this case, high cash totals). For example, one job is being a janitor. You're put in a washroom that you have to constantly keep clean, while people walk in and generally make a mess. At various points in time, your boss will walk in and check in on you. For each bit of mess in the washroom at that time, he'll dock you a bit of pay. Do well on your first day, and you may get a raise, or get promoted for the next day. Do badly, and you may get fired. Once you have money, you can go to the music store and buy one of their guitars. The more expensive the guitar, the better sounding it is. Do well at your job(s), and you can afford a better guitar. The next step is to learn how to play your guitar. To practice/learn, you'll play a minigame where it'll show buttons to press on the screen. Then you have to press the corresponding buttons to the right rhythm. That's the basic idea of it anyway. If you have a better guitar, learning to play it may be easier. After purchasing and then learning to play a guitar, you'll need to go around town searching for band members. Some will only join you if you're good, or they like the guitar you have. Some will beg you to hire them. Some will join you if you offer them enough money. Some will only join you if you're friendly and strike up a conversation with them first. You may even find some potential band members by talking to people you come across while working at your job. Different people will have different skill levels, and this will affect the performance of the band. After forming a band (you don't need to recruit other band members, but you won't do as well then), you then spend some time rehearsing. Then the day of the audition arrives. Your performance will depend on how good the other band members are, how good your guitar is, and how well you've learnt to play the guitar. Depending on how well you play, you may get mocked, or you may get offered a contract. A concert in the streets is your next step to superstardom. The number of people coming to see you will depend on how your audition went. At any case, your band plays in the street. In the middle of the concert, the police show up and try to break it up. If your audience is big enough and enthusiastic enough, they will then riot against the police, and the police will be forced back. Your band will carry on playing through this, and you have then become a rock star (best ending). Other endings can occur though, such as where the police succeed in stopping the concert (not enough audience members to stop them), and where you're arrested for disorderly conduct (worst ending).
