I need help with my CBS. First I guess I should describe the setup I'm using. My CBS is setup like the game Thousand ARMs where you have one main character battling and your back ups behind you giving aid. - I'll kill you! - and I'll help! So I made a button script so if you press Up, Down etc. it pulls up a different option. That was the easy part. i made SFX for the battle and worked out a turn based battle system. So far still easy. What I'm having trouble with is this, I have spent the past weekend trying to getting it to function properly, and I am having trouble finding a way to display my character's spells/skills etc. during the battle. The CBS takes place on individual maps, I descided to do away with the DBS altogether, so all this is done in a regular dungeon. I got the items to show, but need help in finding a way to prevent my character from using the bas items during battle, and also from preventing the support char from accessing the hero's items. I hope that was clear, I haven't got much sleep lately and fear I'll die from exhaustion. All help is greatly appreciated.

Urg, reading through the posts here I have unfortunately found the answer to one of my problems. Unfortunately, because to show the character's skils/magic I'll have to make a script branch setup to check what skills are available/learned and create a multichoice option to display them all in battle. Bummer, I can already tell this script will be long. Guess I should have expected as much when took on the challenge of making a CBS.
I still need help in figuring out a way to limit item use to each individual character. Hopefully some one, which is probably a lot of you, knows more about this than I do.

I am going to have to do this in my game, and my current plan is to have an item command in my Custom Menu that allows the player to equip weapons and items to each member (just like the current X-menu does, but it will be handled a little bit differently). Then, when you load member info, certain variables hold the data of what items the specified member has equipped. If you press start on the Member Info > Load command, it will give you more information on that. Anyways, after loading the info, you can just check the value of each of those values and do a sort script to allow the correct item. Once again, this will be the undesirable massive sort script.

The item script would be a massive sort of the item data base number, correct? God, I don't want to do that......and I'm sure FinalRune doesn't want to do it either.... But if you look at the upside you can use this script anywhere you need to after you get it done(CMS and your CBS or where ever else you want to)by calling it. Good Luck with your CBS Final Rune. I'll try to help you if I can.

My item sort script for my battle system is pretty short and can be used with any item. This is because the Action:Item/abty variable tells the battle system what item to use. I list the items the character has, ask the player to pick a position in the inventory (this saves making a multiple choice for every possible item combination), and using the database number of that item in the Action: Item/Abty variable.
Edit: Forgot to mention you also need to set Action: Action to item (var60 = 4)
Outside of the battle system, you can use the database number the same way, load item info to find out how the item can be used, and then bring up a menu asking the player who they wish to use the item on (depending on how it can be used).
This works great and saves you creating massive lists of items. Abilities are still a problem though, since the game system doesn't store a characters abilities anywhere. Items in the backpack are also not stored anywhere, because the player can have every item in the game in the pack. Instead, the system stores the number of items of each type internally. You need to use Load Game Info after putting the database number of the item in the item number variable to find out how many of that item is in the bag. This makes using the bag in a custom menu a major pain.
Good luck with your battle system.
