That's cool, but it does make me feel a whole lot better about my recent computer purchase. Mine actually has a faster Athlon XP Dual Core processor and 3-160 GB hard drives, basically the same RAM, and a better DVD burner. Of course, mine is not a laptop, but I only spent about $700.
I can guarantee that you'll love the speed of a new dual core. Computationally expensive operations (such as recompiling the operating system on FreeBSD) took about 1/4 of the time on my new computer as it did on my old Pentium 4. I personally don't understand the craze with Macs: sure, the OS is cool, but so is Linux, and with Linux, you can get any old computer and just throw it on there (for free). There are Desktop Environments (gnome, kde, etc) that have themes to make it act basically just like a Mac.
To each his own, though. I'm quite sure that you will be happy with your purchase. I need to get a laptop, too, but I'm probably going to go with a cheap secondhand one to just put a lightweight browser and word processor on, and then use an X-server to connect to my new computer when I'm at home.

1/2 the cost of my computer is in just the fact that it's a laptop. The other 1/4 in that it's a good computer. The final 1/4 in that it's a mac, which is sooooo worth that last quarter for my all my high quality apps that I love.

doan, the difference between macs and pcs is primarily that pcs are software driven while macs are hardware driven (thus the reason that they are not very end user customizable). Also, in the production world (music, movies, and pictures), macs are the standard. But that is about all I know.

I prefer macs, I don't have the customizability as far as the comp itself goes but as far as what I can do with it I do. I can download music and listen to it, have my pics organized, surf the web, messenger, photo/movie editing, i can voice and video chat, and I can even program my own apps and compile them for any computer. There's nothing on my mac that I need that I don't have. I love the interface, I don't get viruses or spyware, I've never had to reset my whole computer and lose everything, and the searching works awesome on it! I can afford it, I like it a lot, and it's secure. What more to ask....

www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9IdvUPyQy0&NRThere's what mine will be able to do. Using parallels between OSX and windows. And it's in my home state now! But 2 day shipping only includes business days....saturday apparently isn't a business day :-( so I have a full weekend off work to sit impatiently. Maybe I'll get creative and work on a new battle system or something for RPGM2 lol...
