wow, i haven't been able to access this site in quite a while. on the bright side, i've been able to work on my Fluffy the Bunny comics, and once they're copyrighted (could take a while, though) i'll put up a web site... oh, and ves, when i click on 'profile', it gives me the 'this page cannot be displayed' thingy. didn't know if you knew, but... anyway... yeah, i finished GC, so i'll send it to ves sometime soon. schools kept me occupied for a while, and i just learned next years gonna suck. 4 summer reading books, and the first week back 2 essays, a test, and a project. not cool. -the smurf

Anything you create is copyrighted the second you create it. You can send a copy to yourself through Registered mail if you want to be safe but putting it on a website should be all you need to do to prove it's yours. Besides, who would want to steal some unknown writer's work anyway? There are thousands of Web-cartoons out there. Trust me, no one will steal your work until your famous enough to make it worth stealing.
Check out my free-to-steal web-comic by clicking the image below. I'll check out your's when you put it up.

How to send something to yourself through registered mail:
Make a copy of your files (on disk) and print out your images
Put them in an envelope
Take the envelope to the post office.
Tell them you want the envelope sent through registered mail
Put your own address on the forms so it will be sent back to you.
In a few days the envelope will come back to you. Sign for it and then put it someplace save (preferably a vault).
It someone tries to steal your work, take them to court.
Use the registered envelope as proof you created the idea first. Do NOT open the envelope yourself. The lawyers on both sides should be present when the envelope is opened.
As your lawyer if you want to know more about legal proceedings.

You were worried someone would want to steal these cartoons? Your pictures are small and not very detailed at all. It looks like you enlarged the images and caused them to become distorted as well. The style of the drawings isn't too bad, but they look simplistic - like something a ten year old could do (at least this was my style when I was ten). I did find some of the jokes pretty funny, although I have heard some of them before as well (who's stealing from who now?). Overall the cartoons are okay, but I think you'll look back in a few years and wonder what you were thinking when you sent that certified letter to yourself. Keep practicing - your drawings do get better as you go along. Try to fill the panels more and set then long instead of high (the top halves are usually empty anyway).

"Your pictures are small and not very detailed at all. It looks like you enlarged the images and caused them to become distorted as well."
well, yes, i drew them small at first, but i'm working on that with the newer ones. the distortion is from scanning.
"The style of the drawings isn't too bad, but they look simplistic - like something a ten year old could do (at least this was my style when I was ten)."
yes, this was on purpose. number one, my drawing skills aren't very great, and two, the style fit the theme of the comics (to me, anyway).
"I did find some of the jokes pretty funny, although I have heard some of them before as well (who's stealing from who now?)."
can i have examples? which ones have you heard before?
"Keep practicing - your drawings do get better as you go along."
yes, i have currently 31 comics made, and they get better each time (drawing, i mean)
everyone's entitled to their own opinion...i would still like to know which ones have been used before, so i know what not to do in the future. thanks for the review!

"Did you Eat Biff again?" and "Chew you Food" remind me of old Garfield cartoons. "Norm...Gay?" reminds me of an early Badly Drawn Kitties strip. "Meet Bucky" has been done many times in many different ways. This may be the first Gay guy hits on squirrel version, but the joke is the same. "Dr. Green" was done before. Either "Herman's Head", "Frank and Earnest" or something like that. I know I've read it before. Jokes about the "Presidential Debate 2004" were common around the time of the debate (which is probably when you wrote it). The strip might be original, but the idea behind it isn't. I'll give you this one as the concept is original as well. P.S. Can you tell I read a lot of comic strips? P.P.S. It's all right to take jokes from other sources. Many professional comics reuse ideas, so it's okay if you do; as long as you put your own take on them - as you have here. P.P.P.S. You might want to change the title of this topic since many people might think this is about something else (as it was in the begining).

no, other than Garfield, i really don't read comics...and of course, anything involving a cat doing stuff its not supposed to will remind one of Garfield.
but really, what hasn't been done already? not that i find nothing wrong with copying, but theres only so many original ideas that can be created.
so anyway, i guess this topic can be a topic for my Fluffy the Bunny site (as it is spam).

That's basically what I said in my second P.S. What happened to: The reason I didn't go into detail about the copying was that the jokes just felt like jokes I heard before. It would be pretty hard to come up with anything completely original.
Just keep doing what you're doing. The creator of Badly Drawn Kitties started much the same as you, and now his comics don't look so badly drawn any more.
I look forward to seeing your next set of comics.

Fluffy the Bunny isn't too bad, needs some work though. If you keep practicing I'm sure it could become something really worth looking at when you make some new ones. If you've ever seen the original Simpsons episodes they looked pretty bad, but that show became one of the most popular ones in America.
