Hey whassup i'm Jay.I was wondering if anyone could help me with the 2 problems I'm having making my game.I just got RPG Maker 2 but it didn't come with the manual(its used) so i was hoping you guys can help me out a bit.
1.Is it possible to give your partners minds of their own while your playing? For example your walking and your allies can do something else and look for clues and do battle on their own? 2.Is there a way to make your own real time battle system?and if so how can you make it possible?
If theres a topic on this forum that can help me can someone tell me which one it is? Thanks alot.

Both are possible.
Making a Real Time Battle System takes a lot of scripting. I'm in the process of one right now, but basically you'd need to make: distance check scripts which means distance between you and the enemy; you'll need enemy AI scripts meaning you'll need to program the enemies' actions (where they move, how they attack); etc. Very complicated.
I would suggest getting the strategy guide and following the sample game and getting the feel of the game. I know that's not really the answer you wanted to hear. If you're really dedicated, it should only take a couple of months to get a good feel of it.

I think there's a way to make your characters do whatever they want if you're not in battle (With Variables and stuff. I'll have to try it out) As for during battle, yes. If you're using the DBS (Default Battle System), then what you use are Traits. I can't give you an exact script due to the fact that I'm not using the DBS, but look through the Traits database (make sure this is set on Normal, or you can always select Beginner and then, swap to Hard in Preferences). What you do is go to the Custom section of a Trait, select its script, hit the ^ Button to Jump right to the Script Database (and you'll be right on top of the exact script). Read through it and find out what it does. If you want to see how that Trait works, attach it to a Party Member and test play with him/her. Hope I helped.

I'd recommend you start learning the basics of events and scripts before working on a real time battle system with enemy and ally AI all running at once: make a town with warps and townspeople. Trying to explain the aforementioned about the real time battle system with enemy and ally AI all running at once will be like trying to explain to squirl how to play a board game (okay, bad analogy ), NO offense intended. hey! squirrels are people too! or not...
anyways, all of the above is good advice. although i never bought the guide, its a good idea to write some scripts, and see what they do. before you can actually make the script commands work for you, you have to understand how they work and what they do. if you need any help, we help where we can.

There are quite a few of us who've made Active CBS's. Myself included. I have a completed one. There are plenty of us willing to help you with it if ya want. But if your still relatively inexperienced with RPGM2 then I suggest you get very well familiar with it. You can also chweck my board, Zelda Links Adventure Board here, and check my "How To?" Topic. ;D (smilies are cool)

The MSRP is $14.95, but at amazon.com its going from $10.19 - $4.99. So, it shouldn't cost too much at a regular store, assuming of course that you can find one. I'd buy it online myself.

It would be pretty difficult it could be done. It wouldn't have the quality of a real Real Time Battle System though. If you can get round that, it is possible.

Yeah, it can be done but you'll need to learn trait scripts and my Character vs Enemy DBS sripts (that topic is in my forum - Crown of Order). Make two enemies, one to use as the character and one of the opponent. Use the Enemy Actions editor to create actions the opponents can do and write scripts that check button presses and have the opponents react depending on what actions are taken. Then write scripts to apply damage. With a few finishing touches you can have a pretty cool looking fighting simulator going.
To make it seem 'real time' use a wait in the button input command and if the player doesn't press a button in a set amount of time, have the enemy attack. Also give the enemy a chance to interupt any attack (or certain kinds of attacks) to prevent players just mashing on the buttons.

You should probably do one or the other: real time or comboing system. Something like Legend of Dragoon had wouldn't be too hard (getting the Visual Effects correct may be a little tricky though). Doing both is impossible, unless it's real time till you reach the combo part then everything but the character doing the comboing stops till that character's done with the comboing.
How does this have anything to do with the story?

The combo system is important in my game because i need a good combo so that it would give one of my main characters another reason to still go on with the adventure.

Real time combo fighting should be possible. You just need to keep track of the button presses and have the enemy attack between each character action. You can trick the default battle system by staging the entired fight in a single script it you want. Just have the Charater's Battle Enter script run the battle instead of the default system. You can skip the default system by turning on flag 14: Constant Win.
Good luck with whatever method you decide to try.

yes a combo fighting is possible. You can use vfx for the combo number counter.
