Well, I started my game about a month ago... as of right now, it's nothing jaw dropping (probably won't be for a long while). So far I have a pretty good battle system going though. Using Ves's and Vicious's tactical grid scripts, I'm able to get that part. So far, I can move a unit to a designated tile. I have the attack system working too. Sadly, I don't have much of a plot yet . I'm going to try and get my first battle working and hopefully have a small demo. First I have to plan an enemy AI and get a X-port first though... We'll see. Dunno if anyone is doing this, but I've been taking in-game screenshots and using the characters' faces as facesets. In my opinion it looks really cool. I also plan on using my drawing skills and taking some pictures of them... I'll draw a couple of pictures (I draw a lot on my computer) and see what you guys think. Anyways I think that's all. Nothing amazing... yet... ;D

Sounds intriguing... I'd love to see a demo or some screenshots or anything.

Sure, I can send some screenshots, I'll either work for a new camera or find the caveman one somewhere in my house for a video. I might be able to get a demo up soon. But yeah, still gotta program an AI and work a little more on the battle system.

Yes, this does sound quite intriguing, and once you put up pictures/video/playavle demos people will be very interested in your game. Hope you stick around!

i would love to have some story details, or any other information about the game (main characters, general premise, theme, features, something) that you can give out...

Sure, I'll start with the back-of-box description: "Two young children: sons of the legendary leader, General Valcaan. When Kahn was nine, Dahrinak was thirteen. They are true naturals at fighting. The next day, however... their mother and father are brutally murdered with multiple stab wounds and their house burned down. Watching in horror, their house is swiftly incinerated, along with their parents. Left with no choice, the boys leave to find a new home. Sixteen years later, Kahn adopts his father's army. Dahrinak left Kahn four years after their tragedy, losing all signs of communicaton with each other. As you control Kahn, you can unravel the rest of this epic tale of trust, friendship, and betrayal." Eh... I feel as if I didn't tell enough of the story to get someone interested. ;D Oh well, I'm pretty bad at coming up with stories. I plan to use some historical events as well. I liked the story of Hannibal: The African Warrior, and I was very interested in the Goths (or barbarians). Kahn: Main character of the game. He has a very austere attitude. He's always straight down to business. He never jokes around or really smiles. He is a general of his army. His uniform consists of cobalt armor(as does all of his troops). Well... (jeez I'm terrible at character descriptions) he has an extremely powerful army which you can customize. On his forearms, he has two spare katar-like weapons, in case a weapon gets knocked out of his arms. Darak: Kahn's worst adversary. The two have been at war ever since Kahn adopted Valcaan's army. Not much is known this mysterious man. He controls an army rivaling Kahn's. His outfit comprises of amber (think of his army as "team yellow" ;D ) Features: As I have stated, my game is tactical based (wouldn't be if it hadn't been for Ves and Vicious ). I made something called the "Free Movement System". By this I mean, there is no cursor that you select the tiles. Instead, your character can move around anywhere. Even though I said "anywhere" you can only make a real move on the green tiles. If you don't understand what I mean, then I'll try to explain it better. There is a menu that is displayed when you press /_\ (triangle). When you select move, you are allowed to move anywhere you wish. But to actually record an official move you have to press /_\ on one of the squares. After you made an official move, you are no longer able to move, then it is the next ally/enemy's turn. I'm going to make it a really hard game, so if your expecting it to be a walk in the park, then you're in for a surprise. Also, like I stated earlier, I'm using facesets in my game. I've been taking in-game screenshots of all my characters, then setting them as a visual effect. Right above the text is where I insert the picture. I like it a lot, but man... those images took a (bleep) load of memory from me. It's a small...err well... price to pay. Theme: Basically, the story takes place in a world called Jensaja (Jen-sah-shaa). It is a planet of war, and betrayal. The world isn't very developed yet. So far this is my theme, can't really think of much more than that. Anyways, I think that's pretty much it... I'll take some screenshots and post them when I can. Hope to see some feedback! ;D

I like that story. There are some holes in the story of the first paragraph, but as long as you can fill them in nicely, I think this thing can be really good. One example is: how was he able to adopt his father's army? I'm sure you can come up with a cutscene that is poignant and shows how an army of grown men came to trust a leader younger than themselves.
I don't know how you're doing the facesets, but I want to make sure you know that you can take a picture of all the characters. That is, place all the characters on one map as objects, go into test play, and take a screenshot. You can then create visual effects by cropping the parts of this image that you want.
Anyways, I'm liking the sounds of this, especially with the tactical aspect. Keep it up!

at first glance, the game seems very forward. i think you are going to have to include alot of intrigue to keep it flowing. or maybe some conquest element. also, the battle system sounds a little wry to me, but maybe thats because i am too used to the system originally constructed. overall, i am glad you used it to branch out. one of these days, i want to use the tg system concepts to make a 'smart' active battle system.
so those are my thoughts...

I know it's probably nothing to be proud of, but in the last 2 days I have gotten exactly 110 different weapons and 55 armor pieces (Torso, Head, and Shield). I'm still working on more, by the time I'm done I want to have at least 300+ items in my game. Well, anyways that's my progress so far... other than that, I've just been working on my battle system. Hope to get both done soon. I probably could have gotten more done, if I hadn't spent all that time doing descriptions.

Good job. This is definitely something that I need to get to work on, as I can't really do any more work on my CMS until I get some items made.

Wow that's a lot of items. I hope you get them in alot of other things besides treasure chests :-) Are you gunna have some won from enemies or have them crafted from previous weapons, or just store boughten. I like the idea of making a weapon from other weapons but the scripting process is tedious.

Yeah, it's wierd... I wasn't too eager to start, but it had to be done. Now I'm hooked on it. It's just really fun to do for some reason! But anywho, if you (or anyone) could give me some weapon suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. I have swords, daggers, axes, maces, rods, bow and arrow sets, greatswords (two handed barbarian only), whips, and nunchakus. Any others that you can suggest, I would really appreciate. I can't think of anymore really.

spears, crossbows, blowguns, knives (ninja swords), and tons of different variations on all of these catagories. for example:
swords:
short swords long swords samarai swords
also, you can develop fighting style based on developed weapons, such as if a person is carrying a sword and shield, they fight 'sword and board', sword and dagger could be another (i forget the name), as well as how you use the weapon. throwing axes, daggers, and spears were all typical of middle ages combat. hope that helps...

Throwing stars, bo (think Donatello), staff (maybe this is what you meant by rod), and some that ves said as I started to write this post.

doan, rods are what blackmages typically carry in tactical rpgs. think a wand, really. whitemages typically carry staffs, or staves. so thats what he probably meant by rods. i cant believe i forgot staffs. but whats the difference between the bo (also called a 'quarterstaff) and a staff? maybe it could be a specific weapon in the 'staff' identifier.

Yeah, I'll be sure to add those. I already added the spears, I most have missed posting it. I liked the blowgun, and throwing axes idea. Thanks for the help! ;D
By the way, I'm really sorry I missed your post Nash, I like the idea of crafting weapons from others. I didn't like Tales of Symphonia's crafting system though, because most of them you could buy regularly from stores. But I think it was FF9 (been a while since I played it) that had the crafting system that I liked. I most of it will be treasure chests and bought items. I'm going to try and hide the good ones in spots that are easy to miss. Ex. behind a waterfall or in a wall that you can walk through. Stuff like that. I really do like that crafting idea though. Anywho, I'm going to try the variation of weapons thing. Sounds really interesting as well, would make it easier to make more weapons. I'll try things like this with armor too. Thanks for the advice all! ;D

Well, a bo would be long, straight, and relatively thin (1-2 inch diameter?), while a staff could be thicker and non-symmetrical, like a cane. At least that's what I was thinking.

(Sorry for double post) Wow everyone posted at once. A bo staff is a narrow stick, which you'd probably see in ninja/fighting types of movies. I learned what a Bo staff was from EQ (ironic how video games teach more than you think...). Anyways, yeah, I'm now seeing that Doan already posted, but Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan movies might have one in them. It's been a while since I've seen those though.

Actually, staffs tend to be symmetrical and well balanced and are meant to be held near the middle with both hands (remember Robin Hood's quarter staff?). There are also canes (like walking canes only heaver and designed for combat) and crooks (a staff with a long hook on the end - like shepherds use to protect and round-up sheep).
I spend years studying weapons and their uses. I've actually held many ancient weapon replicas in my hands, so I know what they look like as well as how to use them in battle. I was a member of the SCA (Society of Creative Anachronism), a medieval recreation society, for many years.

Wow... That's pretty cool! Studying weapons like that and learning how to use them in battle must have been really awesome.

The one major turn off is the 'suddenly his parents are murdured' plot device. Perhaps there's a different way to work around this.

Yeah, I left out that part because I'll explain it better in the game as it starts to unfold. I ment it to be kinda brief too, so I left out many details that I'll fill in in the game.
