I was looking around online tonight and came apon a rumor that it is possible to create a custom battle system almost like the one used in FFT. If anyone has any ideas on how (or even if) this could be done go ahead and write something.
P.S. DW, I was told you would know how to make the party appear on screen during battles. This information would be very helpful if you are willing to supply it.

as i've never played FFT, i don't know what the battle system is like, but i do know that you can make a lot of changes to the default battle system. i have no idea how to do anything to the dbs, as i'm too afraid that i'll totally screw everything up, but there are many people here who could help you out with this. sorry i couldn't be of help -the smurf

If you are new to RPG Maker 2, I highly suggest you aviod making your own battle system. A lot of knowledge of scripting and variables is needed to even make the attempt. Once you ubnderstand how the default system works then you can try modifing it.
As for the tactical game, note that the post linked above contains a lot of scripts that don't work or were made better later in the discussion. You might want to start at the end and work backwards. Even doing something outside the battle system is hard as a read through the topic should make quite clear.
Good luck with whatever you deside to do. If you've got the smarts to figure it all out we'll be here to guide you along, but don't expect us to give you step by step directions (the above topics are the best you'll likely get in that area).

dw is right. a long time ago, i was working on a tutorial that would walk everyone through the process, and decided it wasnt worth the time. vic and i typed out the scripts, and did everything short of put them in the game for people, and still they had problems getting them to work. but the scripts in that topic do work. there are just several different sets, and thats what people dont seem to understand. anyways, if you decide to do a tactical battle system, i can help you out. but it is a completely independant system of the default, so you may want to use the default to get used to the intense scripting it will take.
