Hello,
Just got my copy of RPG Maker 2 today. I put it in the PS2 and I get very little. The PS2 tries to read it, then it sends me to thw browser setup. From there I can select the CD or Memory Cards.
When I try clicking on the CD, it again tries to read it then sends it back to the browser screen. I'm currently a bit annoyed at the whole thing. ll my other games work perfectly. Has anyone else run into this problem or has any clue what I can do about it?
Thanks
Edit: However, the computer seems to recognize the disk just fine with all files intact. I'm hoping I've over looked something easy, but I'm down to 2 things.
1) The CD is bad, but not bad enough because Windows can still recognize it.
2) PS2 is on its way out. This also seems wrong because all the other games work fine.

I need to know this:
Your PS2: Did you buy your PS2 around 200-2002/3?
The game disc:
Did you buy it new or used?
If yes to the PS2 question:
RPG Maker 2 will about 70%+ of the not work on that model of the PS2. Get a newer PS2, or send it to sony and get it repaired.

I have no idea unless it's the old common 'disc read error' problem that arises because of a design flaw by Sony on the older PS2's (like first year or two of PS2's). If this is the case, Sony will fix it for free under warranty or not, and their number is 1-800-345-SONY.

I bough the PS2 used when GTA: Vice City was out about 4 months. Best guess is that it was around the time you mentioned.
I bought the game used from Electronics Boutique. Got it on their website. There are a few scratches on the disk, which isn't good.
I've tried everything I can tonight. I'll run around tomorrow (have the day off thankfully) and see what's what. If it IS the PS2, I'm gonna be a bit annoyed.
Anyway, thanks for the info. I've given up for tonight anyway. I'll try again tomorrow.
Actually... before I go running around, is there any way to test any of this?
Edit 2:
Not sure if this is helpful or not but I'll give you the specs its gives me for the version on the PS2.

A lot of people hate doing this, but try turning the PS2 on it's side. It worked for me. I still get the occasional Disk Read Error but it does usually enter the game from the screen showing the memory cards and disc. I just hate the idea of fighting gravity. You always lose. So, to show gravity I respect it, I only boot the disc sideways and then lay the hardware flat. Gravity Sucks! (an old physics joke)
But the only real answer is to get it fixed or "upgrade" to the new PS2. A friend of mine has one and it boots the disc every time no problem. And my used copy has scratches too.
Good luck.

Meh.
I tried turning it on its side --both sides, in fact. No luck with that. Thnaks for the suggestion, though. I guess I'll bring the game to the local EB store and ask them if I can try it on a newer model. If it works, I'll buy a whole new system. JOY! 150 bucks for a system that I ALREADY OWN! *grumble*
Oh well, it could be worse. Not sure how exactly, but I'm certain it could. *grumble*
Anyways, thanks for the suggestions. I suppose if buying a new system doesn't work, I can always take a hammer to the CD... or the PS2... or Sony. Heh.

I guess I'll bring the game to the local EB store and ask them if I can try it on a newer model. I If you buy the newer model you can trade in your old system and get a discount. Or just keep the old one for a back-up if you are financially secure. Good Luck. Peace.

No dice. I tried the game out on the newer model and it didn't work either. Seems the game is damaged. Odd that the omputer can recognize it fine though. *shrugs*
So... I called EB and spoke with a Customer Service Rep and he said I can send it back by mail or bring it to a local store and get another copy that works. Called the local store, and they don't have any in stock. So, I get to wait a week while I send the bad copy to them, and they send a (hopefully) good copy to me. Grrrr... I might just ask for a refund and get on on Ebay instead. Seems like I would save a day or 2 doing it that way.
Anyways, thanks again for the suggestions.

I've been using ebay a ton lately, and I looked at RPGM2 and you could get RPGM 2 game/guide for $25-30 and game for $15-20. It seems a lot of people get it and give up on it, and I think that's why it's so common on ebay (thus the low price. If you persistant you could probably get them for a little less even. ebay's the coolest.

Yeah, I looked into Ebay... I'm still waiting for the registration to go through. If it happens by tomorrow, I'll probably pick it up there and just get a refund from EB.

There are a lot of bargains on eBay, but a lot of crooks too. Just be sure that the listing describes the condition. If they do not, it could be in any state.
Listings with pictures (preferably of the disc) and sellers with good feedback ratings are your best bet.
Good Luck.
