Someone told me they did it in their RPG vanished nights yet I can't recall who. But could someone help me with this cause it sounds like it would look awesome!

Try this:
Sound: Temporary Save Sound: Stop Script Control: Apply Together Camera: Viewpoint Height =+700 30 Frames Camera: Vertical Angle= -90 Degrees 30 Frames Input : Buttons: Constant wait Sound: Replay Saved Camera: Default 30 Frames
Make that into a System Event (not a normal event) and put it in the [] button slot under the advanced tab in the Game Settings menu.
That worked in test play for my game.
I had to raise the height because the camera wound up under the party without so doing. Tweak the height and frame rates to your taste. I toyed with a zero frame rate, but was unimpressed. You may like it though, it was different.
I threw in the sound controls to make it more like a professional pause button. It restarts the game when you press any button. For even more elaborate work you can go to the Visual Effects Editor and use 3D Text to make the word "Pause" and have it float around the screen.
[] is now a pause button.
You could make it into a direct effect and attatch it to an item, skill, or even spell if you have other plans for your [] button. That might come in handy for debugging so you don't lose the debugging menu. Though I suppose you could always put the debugging menu on an item! Gadzooks... I never thought of that until just now! Thanks for asking your question. Now I can test various [] button scripts without losing my debugging menu! I think I have enough time to make a... Fly Swatter! That's a good name for a debugging tool.
I have no way to hook my PS2 to a PC or The Web, so this may not be quite how it's been done in the game to which you refer, but it works.
Hope that helps.
Peace.

OH YEAH:
If you do not recognize the Vertical Angle command it is how the Viewpoint Angle command from the menu is displayed in the script. Same thing.
Good Luck.
