I'm taking a coffee break, sooo.... Here is another product from The Space Giants Memorial Product Line. The people who brought you the Conductor's Baton now present {Fanfare of trumpets}... The Fly Swatter. In another thread the topic of making a pause button look up at the sky arose ( It's here) and I suggested putting that on the [] button. Then I ranted a bit about losing the debug menu and had the Fly Swatter idea. In other words, put the Debug Menu on an item. Little did I realize it would work in Battle during test play! Now you can conviently reequip members, change their HP/MP, and play with status effects in battle during test play. Test all your armor/weapons in one battle! I thought this was a big time saver. All you have to do is create a new Direct Effect with the Debug Menu as it's Success Event (under the Custom: Success tab). Then make a new item, rename it Fly Swatter (I'd like to hear you come up with a better name for a debugging tool!) (Post it here!) (I like paranthesis) and attatch the new direct effect to the Direct Effect script position under the Custom: Used tab in the Item Editor. This even frees the [] button for testing without losing the Debug Menu. If everybody knows about this idea, don't blame me for thinking I thought of it. Nobody's posted it yet! Hope you like it. Peace. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Oh yeah, I forgot Equip was in the menu regularly. But the rest of the debug stuff, like status, etc. sure ain't!

Rodak, you find out many many things don't you? I often wonder if I find these thing out, or if I just like to see these kinds of things posted. I'm sure other people do these kinds of things and just think nobody else would care. Why else is the common script database so empty? But experimenting is half the fun of this game and I'll probably continue to post results I find interesting or amusing and let the board decide if they like it. I suspect this trick is one that the folks who make custom battle systems know about and use. It is another menu that can be displayed in battle and you can customize it, so I'll bet there is something to it. I guess I should point out that it acts in battle unlike any other item. Some effects need to wait for the characters turn after you cancel out of the menu (how you indicate you are done with the item and the turn ends) while others take effect immediately. Peace.

Ha I have tons of tricks. Especially for making an ACBS game and stuff. I can just never think of them...ha It's like I do them so naturally and automatically IDK if you guys use them too or if it's some weird thing that helps that I've gotten into habit of doing.
Hmmm one really simple one for example now is to NEVER go to the script area naturally I always access it with triangle through the Event mode. This way as your making your Event you don't have to move back and forth and back and forth for every dang event.
Also you can store all sorts of tidbit info about your game by tracking stuff with an indirect effect that counts things like step count and time and stuff.

Ha I have tons of tricks. Details, Details! That's what people want. Examples they can implement without having to do much more than read your post. Working examples of how to do things are far more valuable and easier to use/modify than general ideas no matter how good the suggestion. Is that not why you started the Common Script Database? I look forward to seeing more stuff from others. It's a great way to give back if you've ever gotten help here (or at other boards). Peace. Oh Yeah... Hmmm one really simple one for example now is to NEVER go to the script area naturally I always access it with triangle through the Event mode. This way as your making your Event you don't have to move back and forth and back and forth for every dang event. I used to do that until I noticed it has limitations. Try it from any of the editors (Item, Direct/Indirect Effects Abilities, etc) and your memory drops to zero when you reach scritps. No new data can be created when accessed that way. It works fine from Events though. And it is absolutely indispensible when "researching" how things work and trying to learn more.

Ha I never have to make items in my games and Only have like two indirect effects per game being that I make ACBS, that don't use the menu I use flags for items.
I've posted a lot of my AI tricks already. Ways to get the enemies to chase party members and still be able to attack Apply together Call [enemy action] Event Move: To Party 20F
I thought about keeping this secret at first. But then everyone elses ACBS games would suck horribly, this is essential to their AI's. Then later discovered how to give them multiple moods to chase sometimes and othertimes flee etc... All very helpful.

Most menu systems that're applicable in the field will work anywhere. Hasn't ANYONE played my RPG Fighter demo? Oh well, no use in telling everyone now.

Most menu systems that're applicable in the field will work anywhere. Hasn't ANYONE played my RPG Fighter demo? Oh well, no use in telling everyone now. I am relatively new to the boards and still do not have a means of connecting my PS2 to a PC and thus, sadly, No. I have not played your demo. Nor anybody else's... yet. I want to finish my own game before (at least the first half of my own game) I buy the necessary hardware. But there is always a use in telling people! Like I say in most of my "OOH!, Look What I Noticed!" posts; "People may already know this, but..." But I fully intend to play most folks work and give feedback. Especially the work of those who have helped me resolve issues when I ask on these boards! Then the rest of the good people here. Then my next project can begin... I still can't decide whether to make a Cartoon or do a game set in Piers Anthony's "Xanth" world. Both would be fun, but I may wait for #3 in the series (am I allowed to mention that on this board?) to do Xanth, it would be really lame to get started and then find the new one is better suited to that idea. But the Cartoon can't fail!

Oh, I love the Xanth novels. I can't wait to see what you do with the series. Have you read the whole series? I read 6 or 7 of the novels and always planed to pick up a few more but life got in the way and I forgot all about it. Thanks for the reminder. ;D
You might want to work on the cartoon first as it will be easier and will help you to learn special effects and cut-scenes. I'm not sure how limited RPG Maker 3 will be for making cut-scenes and doing a Xanth like-game, but I really hope there is enough flexability to do some cool stuff with it.

Have you read the whole series? Ha-Ha-Ha!! Yes, as a matter of fact I have. But I gotta warn you... he went completely mad and the first trilogy has been declared complete as of the 27th novel. He never was good with math and thought a trilogy was 3^3 (or so he says). I could never have finished them except I was in a very severe depression and it actually helped pull me out! I owe Xanth much more than just a tribute in game form. I was worried nobody would care or even know about Xanth. Twentyseven novels is an intimidating pile! It makes it difficult to attract new readers (Hey Piers... Where's the Movie?). I hear more has been written, but have not found any at book stores. I think I'll check online. I'm glad somebody else knows about the series. And if you don't mind the enormity of the series, it makes for a great light-hearted distraction from the world. Peace.

27 novels! Man I have a lot of catching up to do. I love the fun, quirky humor of the series along with the great cast of characters. There is a lot of weirdness that happens as well. This is fantasy at it funest. Stories about people with magical powers trying to live in a world full of magic. You never know what's going to happen next because anything can. Great stuff.
Since you've read the whole "trilogy" I know you'll do a good job of bringing the series to life. I can't wait to see it.
In case anyones interested, here is a list of all the books in the series (there is actually 29 at this point)
