It seems that if you display too many text boxes in a certain amount of time the game decides it's time to freeze. This time I was trying to display what page of magic the player was on by using a text-box for the page number which I called close text box before I displayed it every-time. Then after changing the page about 15 times or so, the game just completely froze, no select-start recovery either. It also did this before when I was trying to display the current time with a text box. Has anyone else ran into this and know why it happens?

I've run into a problem where I have text boxes constantly reloading on the screen and eventually it stops working and the text blocks don't go away. I found that Clearing all the text blocks then applying a short wait command worked for me.

I'll try that then and see if it works. And remember to save before trying anything with these again, since I didn't this time, but luckily I remember most of what I did so it shouldn't take too long to get back.

"applying a short wait command"
that sounds like it should work. sometimes the game freezes when too many things are going on at once, so if you give it a wait command, it lets stuff get a chance to resolve before rushing into something else. or so i've heard (luckily this has yet to happen to me)

Yeah, that happened a lot in my waitressing mini game. With the clock constantly updating and the waitress adding and removing stuff from her hands, there were just two many text boxes appearing and dissapearing. Using wait in a few critical spots really helped to prevent any crashes from occuring. I also spaced out the updates a bit more. It means the display isn't always correct, but it's a small price to pay to prevent the game crashing.

This is what I've learned (I think RPGM2's help will say this on the Close Text Box command): if you do this Text Box Close Text Box Text Box it doesn't close the first text box but if you do this Text Box Close Text Box Wait 1F Text Box it will close the first text box. You only have to put the Wait 1F when another Text Box opens on the same frame the first Text Box is supposed to close. I'm sorry you lost progress from this, and I hope it doesn't break you too much.

It didn't, I have everything back now, so pretty soon item and magic selection will be done. Pretty much all I have to do now is add in some additional checks before people attack and allow them to get back to the main menu, and my battle system should be complete, minus the actual weapons, spells, and enemies. Well it's nice to know that now, so does it take longer if more than one text box is open, since technically there are two open, I would like one of them to stay up during selection, but you have to close all of them at once which isn't that big of a deal.

I'm pretty sure they all close in one frame. Good luck with everything!

I would like one of them to stay up during selection, but you have to close all of them at once which isn't that big of a deal. Couldn't you just make the one you want to stay open a message window (with the box whose name I forget {because I am at work} unchecked), as opposed to a text box. Then closing the text boxes would leave the message window open. I think that is why they offer the two options. I hope that helps. Peace.

Well I would but the message window is full of the actual magic spells. The two text boxes are for the page number, and the Description of the display, so while that is a good idea in general, it wouldn't work here.

I just called an update script everything something happened to update all the text boxes. This saves trying to remember what boxes you want to reopen. One script closes and then opens the correct boxes every time. Since I was keeping track of 4 (+ 1) boxes, I needed a separate script to reset all the boxes each time.
