There are quite a few pro's out there and they had to start somewhere. I was wondering what did you do to become that good. How did you go about learning and such. Your methods might prove useful to us beginners

I'm no pro, but I believe that most experience with RPGM2 comes through experimenting and, most of all, understanding how commands work. I recently started designing again, and now that I understand the basic scripting commands and have looked at pre-made scripts, I have improved so much since I stopped. I've just completed a few scripts recently, with my most pleasing one being weather and time of day transitioning frow screen-to-screen with nice, smooth transitions. It's a matter of understanding.

Well, you can start with some of the helpful FAQs at doanthenado.com/guides.html. My World Creation Guide is a good place to start, and then check out the others whenever you're interested in what it covers. Beyond that, Kite is right that there is no substitute for experimentation, and also press Start all over the game for helpful information. Also, be sure to use the search feature here on the message board. Most questions have been answered before, so do a search of the RPGM2 Technical Help forum before asking your own question and then having to wait for an answer. And if some old answer needs clarification, it doesn't matter if the topic is two years old, go ahead and just reply to it. Happy creating!

The Domain's Mag pages have good tips in it: doanthenado.com/files/mag_pages.pdfAs for becoming a pro, there's no real trick to it. In fact, none of us are a pro at everything (or at least I'm not ). I can't think of anything Doan didn't already say.

Yeah. I agree with Poopiness. If you want to get better, however, just keep experimenting with the system and skimming Doan's board for tips/tricks. Edit: At first, I thought this was going to be one of those "what's the next RPG Maker gonna be like?" topics.

[white]Repeatition and obsession.
Seriously, I spent several hours a day or about three months doing just about nothing but working with the map editor. I am pretty much regarded as one of the best in the community with the map editor, but being the best at something means you'll often be bad at a lot of other stuff.
The best way to go about learning and mastering this game is to start small, ask lots of questions and try anything you can think of. A new rpg maker should build upon the mass of knowledge your predessors have established. We are here to help.[/white]
