I'm way out of touch. I haven't played RPG Maker 2 in months, so sorry if these questions are way noobish.
I've decided to make a beginning adventure just to get used to the RPG Maker 2 controls again and learn some new things about the system. For example, I have no clue what variables do and no matter how hard I try to learn I don't get it. I didn't even understand flags until I tried the example in the RPG Maker 2 strategy guide.
So, I wanted to ask if somebody could please post a simple example, with full scripting details, and make a simple event containing a variable. Please don't describe it, because I just don't get it. I have to actually do it to learn. If anybody could help me out here, this would be a big help.
Ok, now secondly...I'm trying to make a flying bird event that will circle around a specific area. I tried the wander command but it isn't working. Maybe I have to do bypass objects or something like that but it's path appears to be pretty clear. What I did was I made an action script and made the "random" setup for the bird's movement. Then I put this in the "Motion" section in the event editor. Then I just placed it in the air. What am I doing wrong here?
Thanks for the help here.

Well, I can help with the first request: So, I wanted to ask if somebody could please post a simple example, with full scripting details, and make a simple event containing a variable. Please don't describe it, because I just don't get it. I have to actually do it to learn. If anybody could help me out here, this would be a big help. This example is pretty simple, but it's also nice in that it has a pretty cool result. I think it is a very good example of how variables can be used effectively: doanthenado.com/files/CCSFAQ.txt

Well, for the bird one... I assume you made the invisible pathway of objects for the bird to fly on. If you're having trouble getting that set-up, you should look at the diagram here: www.geocities.com/nate_dog7_7/Intro.htm(Actually you should look at that diagram anyways, but...) Next, every Event can have both an Action script and a Content script attached to it. The Content script tells the Event what to do after it's activated via touch, talk, examine, etc. ... while the Action script tells it what to do the rest of the time (while the player can move about freely). You're answer, I believe, is this: you can do more than just choose from among the default Action scripts, you can make your own, and those custom Action scripts can do whatever you want them to do (minus a few certain commands, but the Event: Movement, Event: Look, Event: Change Action, and Event: Single Action commands are among the ones you can use). So, you can set a preset pathway for the bird in your custom Action script, or whatever.
