I've already thoroughly planned the intros to my games (on the site linked below), and they tend to start rather go-at-your-own pace like (to introduced characters and story you can't always have it be actionous). My question is, do you think it's better to have a actionous intro scene to get the player reved up before the game starts then start the game by introducing the player to the characters, world, and story in a more mellow way (as most games do and have to do quite often), or skip the actionous intro scene as to not break the actionous feel and let the player down?
("your point on number 2. the fact that ff7 failed to continue the pace of the beginning, didnt make the beginning flawed. it made the follow up flawed... and i totally agree.")

(I figure since this is a much more broad question it should fit here, since for me it's about my game but for others it's about their games)

I didn't have any problems with the pacing of FFVII. I don't know if there's any "right" way of doing this. Just be sure that whatever you do, it's fun to play.

I'm doing an action scene that leads into that except that i did my history skippable. Seriously, Jugem is correct, there is no right way to do it. But i suggest that u make it skippable.

i agree that there is no specific right way to do things. i however think that there are tons of wrong ways to do it. id say that if your going to have a slow start, w/ lots of dialogue, so long as you warm the player up to it by slowing the pace at the end of the opening or something, itd be fine. but i would really advise against a fast upbeat opening followed by lulling dialogue.

That's what I was thinking, starting out with the questions is a much more mellow, but still interesting (and fun because the player's actively involved) too. Thanks guys, anyone else have any comments?
