On a scale of 1 to 10, how much trust do you put in each of these characters once they have joined the party. 1 meaning you don't trust them at all, 5 meaning you trust him no more or less than anyone you meet, and 10 meaning you trust him more than yourself. These are highly cliched character concepts, and I expect you to think of them as such. Other ones, like #8 refer to no specific cliche, just from that reason alone (that it is a female character).
1: The main character 2: A 'treasure hunter' 3: An assassin 4: a character's best friend 5: a character who has saved an innocent life 6: the comedy relief character 7: a character who tries to preserve life (pacifist) 8: a female character 9: a character who killed a non-monster for a good cause 10: a character who asked to join the party 11: a character whom the party asks to join them 12: a character who is looking out for his own needs 13: a traitor from the other side that joins you 14: a character from a rebel force 15: a character who has saved the party from doom 16: a character that joins you because of a third party (ie: here, take this guy with you for this mission) 17: the silent warrior type 18: a really young character 19: a really old character 20: (fill in the blank) - describe the person you would most trust 21: (fill in the blank) - describe the person you would least trust
Pretty big list... a lot longer than I thought it would be when I first started writing it. Basically, I'd like to know how trusting various characters can be. I will probably use this information for future projects. I don't think this information could ever really come into play (ie: pick a character to defend the valuable stone), but it can add value to the story. I'll go first.

edit by ves: for whatever reason, the bbc code hasnt been working. i took it out (the italics). just a small edit.

*copy/paste*
1: The main character - 10
ive rarely had a main character who turned on himself. however, ive played a few that realized their motives, and changed them, or realized they were manipulated
2: A 'treasure hunter' - 5
usually, until you come very close to getting this item, or start to decide its not such a good idea, the treasure hunter is invaluable
3: An assassin - 3
generally, anyone that goes 'to the highest bidder' is a bad partner. because someone always has more money than you. and the question has to be asked, why would someone who inherently works alone be willing to work with you? seems very suspicious...
4: a character's best friend - 4
ive played too many games where the best friend becomes the bad guy in a game. ive also played several games where he waivers all throughout the game, sometimes good, sometimes bad, finally ending up to be either the ultimate enemy or ally. in any case, most 'best friends' are the overly dramatic zealot, idealistic type. this can be for better or worse, i suppose.
5: a character who has saved an innocent life - 8
seems pretty straight forward
6: the comedy relief character - 7
while cait sith forever scarred my opinion of comic relief characters, id say on the whole they are trustable. i always expect one turn out of them, and then they will realize their mistake and come back.
7: a character who tries to preserve life (pacifist) - 6
it really depends on what your motives are. if a person is a pacifist, id say that there can be a point where he will see your choices as bad, and turn against you (the lawful route at the end of chapter 1 in TO: LUCT).
8: a female character - 9
while female characters usually vary from supremely powerful (beatrix) to extremely fragile (kachua early in the game), they are generally loyal to the overall good of mankind.
9: a character who killed a non-monster for a good cause - 8
again, pretty straightforward.
10: a character who asked to join the party - 5
these characters range from desperate, coniving, or maybe just plot essential (kid from chrono cross). but whatever the reason, im more inclined to be suspicious of them. even though i think ive only had a few instances where one did me wrong.
11: a character whom the party asks to join them - 4
thats right, i trust this person lower than the other. why? because there is usually a reason they dont want to join you. usually you have just happened to be on the same side as them, and well, they end up being the badguy that leaves in the middle of the night with a sorrwoful sorry and an ill kill you later.
12: a character who is looking out for his own needs - 3
since the badguy is usually more powerful than the good, and all characters are incredibly stupid, why wouldnt he join the all powerful bad guy? anyways, even if thats the case, immoral motives often lead to bad characters. except cloud. but thats because his motives changed.
13: a traitor from the other side that joins you - 6
everyone seems to trust these guys, but well, i dont know if i would. id be very standoffish. are they a spy? if not, who trusts a turncoat anyways?
14: a character from a rebel force - 7
hmmm... i dont really have anything to say to this one. if the rebel force supports your goal, or if you support theirs, its good. esspecially since rebel forces are cast as very passionate, emotional, groups. much like best friends.
15: a character who has saved the party from doom - 9
unless he is one of the aforementioned untrustable characters.
16: a character that joins you because of a third party (ie: here, take this guy with you for this mission) - 5
this really depends on how much i trust the third party. if i trust the third party, i trust the guy he's sending. if not, i dont.
17: the silent warrior type - 8
for some reason, they just seem to be trustable. and full of wisdom. unless, of course, i had to beg them to join me. or other such characters.
18: a really young character - 9
most of the time, kids are cast as extremely innocent, benevolent characters. and their just so darn cute. and who would want to hurt them?
19: a really old character - 9
not too much to say. never had one turn over on me.
20: (fill in the blank) - describe the person you would most trust
i would most trust someone who pursues noble goals even when it is directly against best interest of self. my best pop culture example is orlandu from FFT, and the guy that dressed up as him. if youve played the game, you know what im talking about.
21: (fill in the blank) - describe the person you would least trust
im not actually sure about this one. sorry.

1: The main character 9 2: A 'treasure hunter' 3 I trust Locke more, but from just 'treasure hunter' I don't 3: An assassin 3 Stupid ***** Yuffie, usually the assassins end up being good, but my earlier gaming experiences I didn't trust them much to begin with (though now I expect them to go hand in hand with the old famous cliche of a paladin - the most ****ing virtuous person ever) 4: a character's best friend 9 If they're just some irrelevant minor-character-townsperson I definitely trust them, but that varies 5: a character who has saved an innocent life 9 6: the comedy relief character 9 7: a character who tries to preserve life (pacifist) ? This is more complicated, I trust them to always do what they feel is right (loyal to their beliefs), but expect them to not always to their nation because of this (they would however make a pretty good friend in real life probably) 8: a female character 5 9: a character who killed a non-monster for a good cause 3 or 7 I trust the character, but am expecting a twist in that the person who was killed was good and the media twisted the truth and such from the game's creator (I'd still be entertained when the twist comes though, no doubt, because even if I thought it might come I didn't really know it would) 10: a character who asked to join the party 3 or 7 Depends on if they have a valid and believable reason for wanting to join the party 11: a character whom the party asks to join them 3, 5, or 7 This all depends, if there's a good reason for the character to join the party and the main character asks him/says why and the character joins and is happy I'd trust him (7), but if the character refuses and won't say why I'd expect him to either be up to something (3) or just some guy that couldn't fight well or didn't want to fight or something (5) 12: a character who is looking out for his own needs 1 Expect him to join up with the most powerful and likely to win, aka the main badguy 13: a traitor from the other side that joins you 3 There's still a hint that he really does want to be on your side, but he could also be spying or something 14: a character from a rebel force 9 Don't you know, the rebels are ALWAYS the good guys and the empire is ALWAYS the bad guy ;D... 15: a character who has saved the party from doom 9 16: a character that joins you because of a third party (ie: here, take this guy with you for this mission) 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 Varies on the third party's trustworthyness (like Ves said) 17: the silent warrior type 9 Any completely silent character is either the silent protagonist, dead or sleeping, or something else irrelevant to everything else; if he talked some I'd trust him differently depending on what he said 18: a really young character 9 Usually all the younger characters are good guys and only older characters make up the bad guys 19: a really old character 9 I trust an old geezer to remain an old geezer, and at most challenge the party once to 'see if they're worthy' for something 20: (fill in the blank) - describe the person you would most trust In a game, the silent protagonist main character, because he'll never say anything or do anything besides what you're supposed to (including save the world) 21: (fill in the blank) - describe the person you would least trust In a game, the leader of some evil empire with absolutely no background others than 'he's evil and the main bad guy leader, so go kill him' because he'll usually be the final boss whom you never meet till the very end, fight, kill, and go 'whoopie-doo this game sucked ass'

1: The main character 10 - gotta agree that you can't really go wrong with the guy you're controlling. Even if it turns out he was manipulated/evil, he is still the leader of the party and can't really turn on them. 2: A 'treasure hunter' 4 - Along with the assassin, I feel like these characters are likely to leave the party any time they see something else that might improve their situation. 3: An assassin 3 - see above. Assassin is even less trustworthy because he might be out to kill you. 4: a character's best friend 2 - I have never seen a best friend party member who did not completely turn against the party at some point. Even if the friend is a townsperson, he will likely give out sensitive information to the bad guys at some point either due to stupidity, jealousy, or being forced to. 5: a character who has saved an innocent life 5 - I would be inclined to trust this person, but it's possible that the whole thing was a setup just to convince you that you should trust the person. 6: the comedy relief character 9 - This character usually isn't all that important one way or another to the story, and it's highly unlikely they'll ever turn on you. It usually seems like this is the last person the game creators throw in there because, "dang, this game isn't funny, let's make it more entertaining." 7: a character who tries to preserve life (pacifist) 7 - In my experience, this character usually plays the role of the party's healer, in which case they almost always can be counted on. On the other hand, if they have a different role, watch out, because at some point their beliefs will be contrary to yours. 8: a female character 8 - most of the spunky types or quietly determined types are pretty loyal. Just watch out for the overly sexy, seductive one. 9: a character who killed a non-monster for a good cause 9 - Usually this character is trustworthy, it just often ends up that they find out they were misled and did not actually need to kill the non-monster. 10: a character who asked to join the party 5 - Depends on the circumstances. You can usually tell pretty easily if someone has good motives or if something funny is going on. 11: a character whom the party asks to join them 6 - see above. The only thing is, usually this character will only stay with you as long as you need them. The "good ones" won't often turn on you, though. 12: a character who is looking out for his own needs 2 - Will only be with you as long as your needs agree, and at some point, his needs will likely fall in agreement with the enemy's. 13: a traitor from the other side that joins you 3 - I never trust this person, even if they seem good. The reasons are pretty obvious. 14: a character from a rebel force 4 - These people are usually so impassioned that at some point, they will be forced to go against you for the "good of their cause". 15: a character who has saved the party from doom 9 - If these guys were bad, why wouldn't they just let you die in the first place? Perhaps I shouldn't, but I almost always trust this character unless the "doom" seems like it may have been staged. 16: a character that joins you because of a third party (ie: here, take this guy with you for this mission) 4 - Usually some kind of plant, unless some kind of wise sage guy sends the character with you, then the character will certainly be invaluable. 17: the silent warrior type 10 - Always seems to do right, even when the main character doesn't know the right thing to do. 18: a really young character 10 - Unless you're watching the movie "Identity", what can the young character do that could possibly hurt you? 19: a really old character 7 - His wisdom is usually pretty valuable, but sometimes he may be collecting information from you for his own interests. 20: (fill in the blank) - describe the person you would most trust A mysterious, silent warrior type who has obviously seen his share of battles (think Auron). 21: (fill in the blank) - describe the person you would least trust Usually if your best friend disappears at some point and then returns to you, everything about him will be "strangely normal", and it's time to start sleeping with one eye open.
By the way, KingSpoom, did you get your most trusted and least trusted switched?

Yes, I did have them switched. I probably wasn't paying attention when I filled those two out. Thanks for all the answers and more-so for the explanations.

I'm not good at giving ratings for anything, so I'll just describe how I feel about each person.
1 - The main character I'll always trust him. In the off chance that he's the type of person who will eventually turn on his allies, I'll still trust him, as there's nothing he can do against me, and it'd be hard for him to do something against himself.
2 - A treasure hunter Usually they're trustworthy. By going with the party, he'll still be able to hunt treasure around the world. If the party starts doing a bunch of things that prevent any sort of treasure hunting, the guy might leave, though he probably won't turn against the party. If he's especially passionate about treasure hunting, he won't even sway if the villain promises riches to the guy. I mean, being given the treasure defeats the purpose of hunting it. If the treasure hunter was given a map to a treasure on the other hand...
3 - An assassin By all means, these people shouldn't be trustworthy. If the villain offers a higher pay than you, you're skrewed. In my experience though, these guys usually don't cause too much trouble. If they try going against you, you'll usually find a way to persuade them to change their minds. Although you might still have to defend yourself in the meantime.
4 - A character's best friend As long as you keep a constant watch on these guys, they should be trustworthy. But you gotta keep in mind, if the bad guy ever reaches these guys, you're gonna have to really watch them. On the other hand, being your best friend, they usually go back to your side if your differences aren't too big.
5 - A character who has saved an innocent life Not too sure. Sounds trustworthy, but the guy might be a fake hero, who simply staged the whole thing.
6 - The comedy relief character If I ever get the suspicion that someone in my party is up to something, this is the last guy I consider.
7 - A pacifist Seriously, why would this guy be fighting with me if he doesn't like to fight? I've never seen any party member who does nothing but heal. Every white mage I've ever used has done some sort of fighting.
8 - A female character Depends on who she is.
9 - A character who killed a non-monster for a good cause I dunno, depends on the cause. He might want to kill me for a good cause. Especially if killing mean means the safety of his hometown.
10 - A character who asked to join the party Unless I personally know who the guy is, or if I've heard nothing but good things from the person, I probably won't trust him.
11 - A character whom the party asks to join them It depends on who the party is asking.
12 - A character who is looking out for his own needs He's nice to have around, but I'll be sure to make sure his needs fit my own at all times in one way or another.
13 - A traitor from the other side who joins you I won't trust this guy by word of mouth alone. I'll have to see it to believe it. Is this guy getting killed, imprisoned, am I witnessing the guy turning traitor, and what is this guy doing to become a traitor?
14 - A character from the rebel force If I'm on the same side as them, YAY.
15 - A character who saved the party from doom These people are about as trustworthy as the villain who refuses to kill the good guys. The guy could've saved us because we have yet to unknowingly fulfill the villain's purpose. Or the doom could've been staged.
16 - A person that joins you because of a third party Depends on who the third party is mostly.
17 - The silent warrior type I'll probably trust him, though there might be a reason he's silent that I won't like.
18 - A really young character Yeah, I'll trust the kid. Usually. Though, kids tend to be a bit mischieveous sometimes.
19 - A really old character Never found one of these guys that I couldn't trust.

1: The main character - 9 (=P)
2: A 'treasure hunter' - 5 (just another person in my book)
3: An assassin - 4 (who's he assassinating?)
4: a character's best friend - 8 (depends, but usually not a bad guy)
5: a character who has saved an innocent life - 7 (um...)
6: the comedy relief character - 9 (usually is too stupid to change, but then again there was Zelos from tales of symphonia)
7: a character who tries to preserve life (pacifist) - 7 (probably wont initially cause trouble)
8: a female character -5 (see treasure hunter)
9: a character who killed a non-monster for a good cause - 5 (eh...)
10: a character who asked to join the party - 2 (nope. who knows their motives)
11: a character whom the party asks to join them - 5 (obviously you saw something good in him/her, but you never know)
12: a character who is looking out for his own needs - 3 (how does he plan to achieve his needs, eh?)
13: a traitor from the other side that joins you - 1 (not a chance. traitor once usually is traitor again)
14: a character from a rebel force - 5 (see treasure hunter)
15: a character who has saved the party from doom - 4 (kinda reminds me of Kratos from tales)
16: a character that joins you because of a third party (ie: here, take this guy with you for this mission) - 4 (eh...)
17: the silent warrior type - 3 (think Kratos from tales of symphonia)
18: a really young character - 8 (too innocent or uneducated to be bad)
19: a really old character - 5 (see treasure hunter)
20: (fill in the blank) - describe the person you would most trust - i would most trust a character that is my "best friend" who i grew up with
21: (fill in the blank) - describe the person you would least trust - i would least trust a character that says something, one person asks "what?", and then he/she says "never mind" or "it's nothing" (usually a bad sign)
