Here's an interesting thought. When creating your games (whether coming up with ideas or putting it together), where do you draw your inspiration from? From a game or book? Or maybe something you see outside? Like for example, when I was creating Jester's Hunt, Banjo-Kazooie was my (obvious) inspiration. Can't say what I'm looking at for inspiration for my current games. Although I could probably say that one of them is based off my dreams of adventure, along with some stuff that I simply wish a professional would try making.

Well, I got inspired to create another RM1 game because of Jester's Hunt, Fu Fu the acid trip bunny, Defenders of Light and other RM1 games. If it weren't for all of those games that were better than Patrick's Journey, I might've moved on to RM2 by now. For my game Monkey Brothers, this idea has been wondering in my head for as long as I can remeber. Of course my thoughts have changed from when I was 7. What was I inspired by? Well, mainly from Donkey Kong. I started out with two monkeys at first and then eventually three. Malcolm and Matt were the first two monkeys and Mitch was the third. My inspiration for the way Mitch looked (I guess) came from Funky Kong. The way he had the shades and all. And basically that's where the idea of using monkeys came from. When I was in 4th to 5th grade, I was playing games like "Mario 64", "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", and "Crash Bandicoot". At the time I was most inspired by Crash Bandicoot (for this game) and my ideas for Monkey Brothers were identical to Crash Bandicoot (as far as level designs go). When I entered my adolesant years, I was more involved in playing the Final Fantasy titles (where I got some inspiration for one of my ideas: Chaos Legends). However, that pulled me away from formulating ideas for Monkey Brothers. And I'm kind of pulling away from the topic now, so I'll just list some of my ideas for games down below and where I got the inspiration of "creating them" (which was mapping them out on paper): Chaos LegendsThis has gone through so many changes (and is definitely still today). First it was called Football Robots which was first inspired by... Small Soldiers? Then I got some inspiration from old Mario Brother titles. When I was playing Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I had gotten some ideas from that (mainly the idea of dungeons and the feel of the game). Now I'm thinking of using a magic system similar to Materia (guess what? I was inspired by a game!) AniensI don't know if the name "Black Machina" rings a bell to anyone, but he was a member at the Pav that posted the topic of a monster catching game. This making the monster catching idea came from me. But what did the monster catching idea come from? Well from Pokemon of course. I was also inspired by Digimon by the idea of kids being transported into this other dimension. Eventually, I grew out of the Digimon and Pokemon phase and basically handed it over to Black Machina (which he was helping me from the start). But now, I want to revive this idea and to make it a great game (and definitley NOT a "monter catching game"). I'm getting quite tired. You know the story of Monkey Brothers, right? Just to let you know, Chaos Legends and Aniens may be games for RPG Maker 2. Just keep that in mind.

most of my inspirations for games comes from ideaologies i want to represent. often they are the clear undertone and theme of the game. its the same with my stories. but as far as content inspiration, classic books, games, and movies. any source of media, mixed with my own imagination.

Edit: Maxeross, for that monster catching-like game this topic'll likely be helpful (if you ever get around to it at least): p068.ezboard.com/fagetecfrm20.showMessageRange?topicID=2415.topic&start=1&stop=20 (the command's called 'Battle: Make Active Character') Yeah same here for most content inspiration. For character stories I always use something I've been through in real-life. For gameplay elements I definitely get my ideas from other games. Summoning Guardians to aid in battle - Saiyuki: Journey West Limit Breaks - Final Fantasy 7 Class System - numerous games Master System - Breath of Fire 3 Questions that determine something at the beginning of the game - Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen Character Battle Dialogues - Star Ocean 2 Cooking - Star Ocean 2 Side-quests - lots of games Alternate Party Members - Star Ocean 2 Alternate Pathways - Chrono Cross Private Actions - Star Ocean 2 Story Telling in the game - Tactics Ogre (I haven't quite done much of this) 'Quests' a la Brigandine - Brigandine!!!!!

Since my RPG's are sci-fi based, obviously some good sci-fi movies, bbooks, and t.v. shows..Even soap opera's as they define the meaning "character relationships"..Then theres games of old and my own twisted imagination.

Well for my epic RPG, my inspiration comes from a slew of very weird dreams I've been having for the past 7 years.

Well, I'm not going to make the battle system (if I ever work on Aniens) EXACTLY like Pokemon's. I was thinking of something a bit more complex (ex: when ordering your Anien he may not respond based on the way you treat it). But I wouldn't know how to do this since I do not really understand the way RPG Maker 2 works (which I might get around learning once I'm done with Monkey Bros.). Thanks anyway Will.
Oh yeah, one more thing, Aniens WILL NOT be based around catching monsters. Catching monsters will be an ELEMENT of Aniens. Yikes! Holyflame almost got banned!

I'd find it hard to draw inspiration from a game. The inspiration for the battle mechanics for my game just come from the years of gaming experience I have, on and off computers and consoles. As far as my story... I think it would be silly for me to draw from another game, since I think other sources have advanced stories better. Anime has improved my story, but only in a general sense.
