I rented the game, and its to say............. alrite...
The Story is probably the best part of the game, written by Mark Miller, and Jae Lee doing the character art, it all sounds like it would be a damn good game. Well, the story is mainly about a new group of enemies arise known as the Imperfects, and they are killing off super heroes one by one (there is a cinematic where you get to see Captain America, The Punisher and The Hulk all killed off) and the presentation is very well done, they make my favorite super heroes like Wolverine and Spider-Man so much cooler in this game. (especially Wolverine!) And the Imperfects are very well done too, all with backstories and just great characters overall. You really get the feeling that these surviving super heroes are in the in biggest struggle in there lives.
As for the gameplay, pretty good, the game utilizes a universal fighting system. Its simplistic and a little tough as well. Plus multiplayer is the best part of the game, it gets very crazy. But one problem, its only 2 player! The game has 3D enviroments, and all objects on screen are descructable and useable, it plays almost like Power Stone, so it should have been 4 players.
But in order to get all the awesome characters in the game, you have to play through the terrible story mode, where it tries to incorporate its fighting system into a 3D action game, and the results are terrible, this is holding the game back from being a really good game. Its entirely too repetive, the A.I. in general sucks, the random enemies arent even worth mentioning. If it unlocked all characters from the start the game would be nicely tucked into my game collection.
Plus they should have gone with the M-Rating, the game is already violent enough as a T, they couldve really gone all out with it. There is one where Elektra stabs her oppenent in the face, one where Wolverine mutilates his foe, and my favorite where Iron Man vaporates the enemy with his beam.
I reccomend this a game a rent to any comic book fan. And dont play through the single player story unless you really want fan favorites like Iron Man and such.
All in all, its a 6. Well worth your time if you are a Marvel Fan, just beware of the terrible story mode.

They killed The Punisher? Those bastards! Him and Venom are the only cool Marvel characters... I Say Thee NAY! You forgot Thor. And sorry to say this, but I'd not miss The Punisher. Super Heroes do not use guns. And his name is misleading... He doesn't make any Puns. But as far as the game goes, I don't much like fighting games so I'd have to find it cheap. I do collect games based on characters I know and like, so this would count if I ever see it at the right price. Peace.

Venom is in the game, and its not a true fighting game. Its more along the lines of a 3D runaround version of Super Smash Bros Melee (only not as good).

He's a normal guy who kicks everyone's asses in the most brutal ways possible!

OK, I'll give you that.
But he still doesn't make any Puns!!
I just don't go for the realism stuff... you've heard me say it before, but... Keep your Realism out of My Fantasy!
I'll take that great pompous dialog in old Thor any day.
Next time you get the chance to correct someone, say (in a deep and booming voice) "I say Thee, NAY!" and watch their reaction.
Peace.

First, I'll say this...
The intro pissed me off. How could they kill off the Punisher?! HOW?!?
But...I agree with most of Bigfoot's review. I haven't played story mode, but I can say that the multiplayer aspect is some of the most fun I've ever had with a figthing game. If you have some friends to play against and the patience to unlock all the characters, this game would probably be worth owning once the price drops.
6/10 for me as well.

The intro pissed me off. How could they kill off the Punisher?! HOW?!? In this case I think The Bible said it best (yeah, I've read it despite being a Born Again Pagan): "Ya Reaps what Ya Sows, Baby!" I think the Bible used more florid language, but I'm pretty sure that was the general idea. It's better than killing Howard The Duck, or The Impossible Man. Now that would have really gotten me mad! Peace.

To us old folks Wolverine will always be just another lame Hulk villain.
I have a very Silver Age mindset when it comes to Comics (and fantasy in general).
But back on topic... Any cool obscure characters show up?
I'd love to see them make more use of their vast stock of crazy heroes and villains in these games!
Peace.

To us old folks Wolverine will always be just another lame Hulk villain. Wolverine was always one of my favorites, I just always thought of him as a badass. He used to be a samurai, then went to war. Hes a Samurai/Vet, whats cooler than that!? Wolverine is just one of those characters I wish I could be like. But unlike wolverine, I am lame, good with poeple, and have a bone structure without adimantium. (I think I spelled that right.)

It's Adamantium... as in Adamant (real obstinance!).
The -ium ending is just to make it sound chemical.
There is an ore called that, but the creators did not know about it at the time.
And I repeat...

Not really, there are the imperfects which are new villians that are really well done.
And Magneto is pretty cool character in the game,
but if you are looking for characters like Howard the Duck you will be disapointed.

I personally can't find this game to be worthy of a purchase(MAYBE a rental). I'll explain.
First of all, let's take a look at the opening. The only person you can see getting defeated was the hulk, and it was one little shot! Everyone else? They just vanish and then "OMG TEHY R GONNN!!111" These great heroes were defeated, but it seems like they weren't important enough to give visible defeats to. It just didn't seem right, like a small budget.
Let's go to the story mode. Very repetitive missions, need I say more? Not even worth checking out. The core fighting system is pretty simple and not at all balanced, pretty standard for rushed titles. Each character has certain strengths and weaknesses. Doesn't really matter since the ones who are the most versatile(Paragon and Venom, and maybe Iron Man and Magneto) guarantee wins. The cast is pretty generic, and 95% of the hidden characters(which take too darn long to get for versus but easy as hell to get for online, we'll talk about that in a minute) aren't even worth unlocking, unless you just want see what they're like, as most of them are cut and pasted versions of the initial roster. Everyone's easy to use with the "universal fighting system", but then again it's pretty bare.
The fights in general can be fun and they are once you get into the swing of things. But people take advantage of game issues, which make fights less balanced than it is, which isn't much. Enviromental damage is the culprit here, which can instantly kill you if you're not careful, and makes the cheap characters all the more dangerous. Oh yeah, online. Well, expect few people to be on, if at all. You'll get the usual n00bs, experts(who spam cheap tactics like throwing every single thing in the level at you or firing projectiles like there's no tomorrow, rage mode makes players like this especially frustrating) and sore losers. Cheating rank jumpers are just around the corner. The extra stuff, like the voiced comics is alright, but I never wanted anything like that anyway.
Capcom made better use of the Marvel license than EA has. I think it's fun for maybe matches between you and friends and some online matches, but cheat to get all the characters and rent this first.
